37 Fun Father & Daughter Activities to Build Special Memories

For dads, raising our girls to become smart, confident women means always encouraging their curiosity, nurturing their joy of play and exploration, and helping them realize that the sky’s the limit. We asked some of our favorite parents of daughters to share their most cherished father-daughter activities, and we received a treasure trove of ideas. From singing in the car to preparing a family meal, there are so many good ideas here. Which one will you choose?

1. Belt out songs in the car. Nothing beats the amazing acoustics in a sweet ride with your sweetest girl.

2. Build an epic couch fort. A great rainy day (or, really, any day) activity to do with your daughter.

3. Have a tea party. There’s no rule book that says only moms can whip up a spectacular setting for two (or more). We love this tea set, too!

4. Make Cuban food together.

5. Go on a bike ride. Dads never forget the day when our daughters graduate from using training wheels to being able to ride solo on two wheels, which is why bike rides are one of our favorite father-daughter activities; it’s a great way to explore the outdoors together.

6. Go to work together. And not just on Take Your Child to Work Day. Pick a random day for your daughter to play hooky from school, and bring her to work. Whether you spend your day filing TPS reports or you’re the master of your own business, sharing with your daughter what you do for a living (and showing off how awesome she is to your co-workers) will give each of you great and lasting insights into each other.

7. Play a round of cards. Start simple with Go Fish or Old Maid and make your way up to rummy. It’s a tradition you can continue to play for years to come.

8. Learn about these inspiring female scientists.

9. Build a robot. It’s a proven fact that dads and daughters love robots and there’s nothing better than working on robot projects together. In addition to instilling a love of science and engineering in young girls, robots are just super-cool.

10. Have a lunch date. Whether it’s a standing lunch date every month or for a special occasion, splurge on a fancy lunch date with your daughter, preferably at someplace that doesn’t have a kids’ menu and requires dressing up.

11. Take a selfie with her. Pictures are a great way to capture a sweet moment in time.

12. Go bowling.

13. Prepare a family meal together. Your spouse will appreciate whatever you and your daughter whip up in the kitchen, and your kiddo—no matter how young she is—will start to learn the joys of creating yummy eats for others.

14. Tell each other secrets. Start while your daughter is young so that she’ll always know that you trust her to keep your secrets and she will, in turn, know that she can trust you with hers.

15. Learn something new together. Whether you sign up for a crafting class or take your daughter somewhere to learn a new activity, it’ll be fun for her to see you learning as an adult too.

16. Work out together. Fathers and daughters who exercise together stay happy, healthy, and strong together.

17. Start a collection. Whether it’s small bottles of sand from every beach you’ve ever been to with your daughter or stubs from your favorite movies (this is the perfect place to store that type of thing) you’ve seen together, starting a shared father-daughter collection can make memories more tangible.

18. Take a walk on the beach. And while you’re at it, remember to build sandcastles, collect seashells, and play in the surf with your daughter. There are plenty of great beaches to explore.

19. Share an impromptu picnic in the backyard. Dining al fresco is best served with juice boxes and plushies.

20. Attend a sporting event. Whether it’s watching your daughter’s soccer match or taking her to see college or professional league sports, sharing a love of athletics can nurture healthy competition and good sportsmanship, and it’s a perfect father-daughter activity for a day of fun.

21. Attend a Minecraft convention. Or, really, any fan event that will let a father and daughter share something that they both enjoy.

22. Learn to code. These days, our precocious daughters could probably already teach us a thing or two about Python or Ruby on Rails, but for developing junior coders, there are plenty of programs that aim to instill a love of technology in young girls that all dads should encourage.

22. Ride a seesaw. Do it while she’s still young enough to enjoy bouncing around with her dad, but old enough to appreciate just how silly it looks.

23. Do yoga together. Centering mind, body, and spirit are helpful consequences of doing a few vinyasas and downward-facing dogs, but the true benefit of fathers and daughters doing yoga together is the quality time spent. Don’t forget to buy your mat!

24. Explore the world. Family vacations are perfect for getting away from the usual day-to-day grind of school and work schedules. Traveling to a new city or town allows fathers and daughters to experience and see things with fresh perspectives.

25. Cosplay as your favorite animated characters. What can I say except, “You’re welcome.”

27. Have “the other talk.” Because any self-possessed young girl needs to grow up understanding that Beyoncé is the Queen, no matter what anyone says.

28. Read books together. The only thing better than a dad who reads to and with his daughter is a well-read girl who grows up to be the next CEO, rocket scientist, or President of the United States.

29. Dance like nobody’s watching. It’ll be good practice for your first father-daughter dance at her wedding.

30. Ride a carousel. There’s nothing quite like a leisurely ride on a merry-go-round with your little girl, whether it’s at one of the country’s most awesome carousels like the one at Disneyland or the local park.

31. Volunteer in your hometown. Showing your daughter you have compassion will make you an awesome role model.

32. Have “the talk.” Because it’s never too early to teach your daughter the incontrovertible fact that the Marvel Comic Universe is vastly superior to the DC Comic Universe, Wonder Woman notwithstanding.

33. Build something. Start a project, and be sure to use tools because it’s never too soon to teach your kid how to be handy.

34. Go fishing. There’s nothing like the quiet togetherness that is required when you cast a line with kids. Do you have your pole?

It is officially summer here—and as a mom, I have had it! This summer, I am taking a stand and declaring that this summer is for every mom bod out there, and it will be the summer that we wear the DAMN bathing suit!

I understand how self-conscious it is to be a mom—believe me! I see young twenty-somethings at the beach that look like they stepped out of a photoshoot as opposed to our day at the beach that involved a million “necessities,” a toddler who threw a tantrum and not one moment to enjoy my beer since I’m not only mom, I’m doubling as a lifeguard, too.

I, too, was once a young twenty-something who arrived at the beach without a care in the world. In fact, if my college self saw me in a two-piece today, she would probably tell me to rock the one-piece instead. But my college self was so naive and thought that her body could take anything (honestly, it had survived way too many nights of tequila shots and Natty Light).

What my college self didn’t know were all the amazing things that my body would be capable of doing. I am still in awe that my body could create and carry a beautiful smart little girl in just 42 weeks. And then, after 22 hours of labor and an emergency c-section, it would bounce right back to take care of this small, delicate newborn. And still, throughout her first year of life, my mom bod could provide the sole form of nutrition to that little girl—and even a little extra to donate to babies in need. My body could survive off very little sleep, be drained to the point where I thought I had nothing left—and then give more.

Our bodies are truly amazing in what we can do, not only as moms but as women.

Wear the Damn Bathing Suit

I know that as a mom, I am guilty of trying to hide the stretch marks, baby weight and c-section scars and shelf when in all honesty, I should rock them as the battle scars they are. These marks and parts of our body that we deem are unsightly are actually signs of our body’s strength—proof that our body can do anything.

Moms deserve to wear the damn bathing suit—and feel as beautiful as our children see us. Rock the c-section scars, stretch marks and baby weight as you chase after your wonderful children in the ocean.

Wear the damn bathing suit so you don’t miss out on time with your family. Rather than sit on the side of the pool fully-clothed worrying about the size of your thighs, put on your bathing suit and play Marco Polo in the pool with your kids. Teach your littles how to do cannonballs. Make memories with your family rather than sit on the sidelines and watch memories being made around you.

The truth is, your kids won’t remember your stretch marks, baby weight or the c-section shelf. Your kids will remember the afternoon you spent building the largest sandcastle they have ever seen or those morning swims at the neighborhood pool.

Maybe if all of us moms got out this summer and wore our damn bathing suits, it would help encourage other moms to get out there and do the same.

We only get so many summers with our kids, let’s not waste them worrying about how we look—instead, let’s just wear the damn bathing suit.

Keystone Resort Is a Snow Vacation Dream for Families

Splurge on the lessons, find the playground, and don’t miss the sleigh ride

As someone who grew up in Northern California, the Rocky Mountains are somewhat of a mystery to me. I’d seen them in pictures and on TV, but experiencing their beauty? It was still on my bucket list up until a few weeks ago. My son and I took a trip to Keystone Resort, the iconic ski destination just under two hours outside of Denver, CO. It is one of the most family-friendly snow destinations I have ever visited; I can full-heartedly say that our adventure fulfilled all my expectations and then some.

Why Is the Keystone Resort So Special?

I’ve been snowboarding for almost half my life, but once I had kids, quality time on the slopes was a thing of the past. The idea of lugging all the gear (not just for myself but for little ones) seemed overwhelming, and the thought of teaching them how to get down the mountain seemed impossible. At Keystone, there are many perks and programs that make time spent there fun for everyone.

First, there’s an amazing deal for families with kids: anyone age 12 and under gets a free day of skiing if lodging with the resort for two or more nights.

Second, the Vail Resorts Epic Pass is… epic. You can opt for a season pass allowing access to all 42 locations, including spots in California, Vermont, Colorado, Utah, and Canada. If you don’t plan on resort-hopping, go for the Epic Day pass. Customize your pass to include all or a portion of the locations and choose from one to seven days. All the deals give you a 20% discount on food, lodging, lessons, and rentals. The 2023/2024 epic pass is on sale now; check it out here.

Third, Keystone Resort has tons of beginner-level skiing and snowboarding options. Hop on the River Run Gondola to get to the top of Dercum Mountain, where you’ll find the Endeavor Learning Area, the Snow Fort, and a snow tubing hill. The entrance to Schoolmarm, the legendary 3.5-mile family-friendly run, is also at the top of Dercum Mountain.

If you and your family are ready to hit Schoolmarm, look for the Kids Adventure Zones (there are four) that can be found on the way down. There are tunnels to ski through, a tree zone, and an Igloo visit. If the elevation at the top of Dercum Mountain is too much (over 11,000 ft.!), spend your time at the Mountain House beginner area. It is accessible from the parking lot, and you’ll find plenty of green skiing areas and two magic carpets.

Finally, when it comes to dining on the mountain, Keystone Resort has some of the best to offer! Summit House, on the top of Dercum Mountain, has everything from chicken tenders and hamburgers to enticing butter chicken bowls. You’ll also be treated to a breathtaking, nearly 360-degree view of the Rocky Mountains at Summit House if you walk up to the Crow’s Nest. A special dining opportunity, even for those who aren’t ready to get there by board or skis, is to hop on the Outpost Gondola at Dercum Mountain, enjoy stunning views of the valley, and enjoy lunch at the newly expanded Timber Ridge Lodge. If you find yourself at the Mountain House area, don’t miss the chance to eat at Big Burger.

What Else Can Families Do at Keystone?

After finishing your last run of the day, plan on spending time in River Run Village. This is where you’ll find the best dining options for families. There is pizza, pub food at 9280 Taphouse (they have great soups, sandwiches, high bar tables perfect for people watching, and one of the best playlists I’ve ever heard), craft beer, soft pretzels and all-day hot chocolate at Steep Brewing + Coffee Co., a candy store, crepes, cookies, pasta, empanadas, and more. Seek out the huge fire pits to warm up after a cold day on the slopes. Let the kids burn their last bit of energy on the Wild West-themed playground located right before the Gondola.

Book a sleigh ride dinner at the Adventure Center at the Keystone Lodge & Spa. Truth time: I am a self-taught snowboarder and spent my time on blue and black diamond slopes until I had kids. But breaking down the process and explaining it to my son wasn’t something I felt comfortable doing. Our instructor, Brenden Rowan, is a level-two AASI-certified instructor with an additional children’s specialist certification. He has been at Keystone Resort for five seasons and was knowledgeable and passionate about the resort, the sport, and sharing his skills with his students.

After our experience with Brenden, my nine-year-old was boarding confidently and correctly. I took a lesson (my first, ever!) alongside my son and learned that while I can get down a mountain, I still had much to learn. When I asked him about the advantages of booking a lesson, Rowan said, “It builds skills and self-confidence. You get valuable feedback, and with that, you’ll avoid forming bad habits while enjoying the mountain.” All the instructors share Brenden’s enthusiasm and knowledge; I can confidently say that your kids will return from lessons as better skiers and boarders—tired but happy.

Family vacations mean special memories and a ton of fun, but the price tag for airfare often creates barriers to the perfect getaway. The days of stalking last-minute flight deals are over. Now, it’s all about planning, flexibility, and a little luck. Also, you must be decisive and book when the prices drop because those rarely last. So, get ready to plan your next family vacation and save money on airfare whenever you book a ticket.

Stay Flexible

Yes, we get it; the dates aren't flexible if you plan to travel over the holidays or during a school break. But if you have the option to stay flexible, airfare often goes up and down depending on your travel dates. Scott Keyes, co-owner of Scott's Cheap Flights, explains that Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday are the cheapest days to travel. Conversely, Friday and Sunday are usually the most expensive days. Also, he talks about the importance of flipping your vacation planning around. Search for destinations with inexpensive airfare first, then pick your dates based on the prices. Again, it's all about flexibility.

Book Flights at the Right Time

You've heard timing is everything. Well, with airfare, that is true. Veteran travelers know the best day to buy plane tickets used to be Tuesday. But according to Expedia, Sunday is the prime day for buying the cheapest plane tickets in 2023. However, book on Friday, and you may spend as much as 15% more on international and 5% on domestic flights. Either way, save that money by booking your flights on a good day. Also, you'll find the best prices 1-3 months before a domestic flight and anywhere from 2-10 months before an international flight.

Track your destination, dates, and prices via Google Flights, Momondo, etc. You can set email and text alerts to get all the price changes in real-time. The tricky part is knowing when to break out the credit card. The good news, most airlines give you a 24-hour grace period to cancel your ticket after booking. But be sure to read the fine print before you finalize your reservations, and go for it while the prices are low.

In a time when every tip and hack is available all over the internet for free, it is difficult to think about paying for an alert subscription. It is worth it. Websites like Scott's Cheap Flights and Thrifty Traveler offer instant deals, alerts, and elusive error fares. These websites are the perfect place to start if you are ready to book your flights at a moment's notice.

Put Your Money to Work

Search Facebook for groups with thousands of members teaching everyone else how to earn free travel through travel-centric credit cards. Unfortunately, sometimes the how-tos of credit card points read like a college textbook. But the work is worth it in the end. Summit at Snoqualmie

Meet the Mountain
The Summit at Snoqualmie offers a variety of skiing lessons for every age and ability, and great terrain for beginners and experts alike. Easily reached by traveling up I-90 through Snoqualmie Pass, you won’t miss the sprawling slopes. Summit at Snoqualmie is the closest ski area to Seattle, only about 45 minutes if you hit good traffic. It’s a perfect place to get some practices, and when tantrums inevitably hit, the car ride home won’t be too long. There are four different ski areas, all with a different tagline and thousands of skiable acres to explore. Summit West is the place to learn. Summit Central has something for everyone. Summit East is a fun playground ready to be discovered. And “when you’re ready” for a challenge, hop on over to Alpental.

Ski School Scoop
Winter programs for your little shredders sell out fast, but the good news is spring is just around the corner. Spring ski season offers great conditions to learn how to ski and snowboard and also gives little fingers and toes a bit of a reprieve from the chilly, wet weather. The snowpack is also at its highest, so falls can be like landing on a snowy pillow. It’s a great way to minimize meltdowns–fingers crossed.

Multi-week skiing lessons are open now for registration. If your little ones are just starting out, we got an inside tip to book Thunderbirds (ages 4-6) in March or Central6 for spring. The four-week sessions for Thunderbirds occur on Saturday and Sunday, and Spring Central6 is a six-week program filling up for the end for February. Just remember, for multi-week lessons, you will need a pass or ticket, as those aren’t included in the lesson price. Plus, students must provide their own gear, or rent gear, and purchase a lift ticket or season pass.

Insider tip: If you plan to rent equipment, Summit recommends renting take home rentals and bringing them back for multi-week lessons. It will save you from standing in rental lines and losing precious minutes on the slopes.

It's a great way to learn!

Insider tip: Remember to reserve online or over the phone before loading the skis on the rack. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours before the lesson date and time. Weekends and holiday book-up early, so sign up in advance!

Meet the Mountain
Get ready to learn to ski at one of the most majestic resorts in Washington. With expansive views of Mt. Rainier, kiddos will be awed. Starting on Thanksgiving Day and running through mid-March, Crystal Mountain offers skiing lessons for all ages and abilities, starting as young as 4 years old. Daily youth lessons, for kids ages 4-12, provide an opportunity for young skiers and riders to gain confidence on the slopes as well as make memories that will last a lifetime. Taught by passionate and experienced coaches, half-day and full-day lessons are available.

Ski School Scoop
Your little skier and snowboarder will learn at a designated area at the base of the mountain, and their indoor meeting area helps keep kids active and engaged when they are not out on the snow. Younger children are typically grouped in groups of three. The littlest future Olympians need more hands-on support as they get used to their boots and boards, but class sizes for older kids, who are likely more experienced, are larger. For the full-day classes, lunch is included—so don’t worry about packing that PB&J. Kids also get hot cocoa. Yum! Parents can check their kids in 30 minutes before the resort opens (8:30 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. on weekends.), so get there early! Plan to pick up your kids between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., after your day of solo schussing. Don’t be surprised if they don’t want to leave—your kiddos will be having too much fun!

Insider tip: Gear rentals are available for all ages as well, so don’t worry if you don’t have tiny boots, bindings and skis. Crystal Mountain takes the hassle out of all your equipment needs.

The KOMO Kids Program is a longstanding tradition at Mt. Baker. Geared toward kids ages 7-15 years old, the ski program is split into four-week sessions, and kiddos ages 4 and up are divided into groups by ages and abilities. To asses your ability, Mt. Baker has a handy ability guideline so you can find the right lesson that's right for you and your family. The sessions are fun and focused on safety and learning.

Insider tip: There are lots of great lodging options nearby the mountain, but parking is very limited. If you’re hoping to get a prime parking spot, get to the mountain early, or come for an afternoon ski session. Weekdays are much quieter than weekends, so plan accordingly.

Mini Mountain

If slipping and sliding in the snow and frosty fingers and toes don’t sound like an ideal place to learn to ski, head on over to Bellevue. Mini Mountain isn’t like the other resorts included here. For starters, it's indoors. They have three rotating carpets that can help little skiers get comfortable on skis, load and unload from a chairlift and have fun, all while learning from instructors with more than 30 years of experience. No need to bring anything, which makes getting out the door super easy. The indoor facility helps set kids up for success so when they finally make it to the snowy peaks and majestic slopes, they are ready to go. Mini Mountain has a boot fitting area, lounge and an area for gear rental. An added bonus, parents can relax on comfy leather couches and watch as kiddos perfect their pizza pie.

Lessons
The great news about Mini Mountain is that you don’t need snow to learn how to ski—you can practice year-round, and many people do! Weekend lessons are currently booked out through January, but they have lessons throughout the week. Each lesson is about 20 minutes long, and kiddos get one-on-one attention from an instructor. They are able to teach kiddos starting from when they start to walk, but most children who enroll in lessons are 2 and up. Signing up for classes is a breeze. Simply call or register online. No need to worry about brining anything easier—everything is provided. Just sit back and imagine hauling down a mountain with your little one in tow.

If you’re looking for weekday, multi-day ski lessons, Whistler Kids Adventure Camp is a great option for your youngest little skiers and snowboarders, from 3 years old to 12 years old. Kids get to learn from the same instructor throughout the duration of the camp, and they will also make lots of friends in a program packed with events, themes and activities. The camp also includes a hot lunch and snacks. Kids will ski for a full five days with instructions, starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 3:15 p.m. Plan to drop them off between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. and picking them between 3 and 3:15 p.m.—plenty of time for you to get in more than a few sweet runs on the mountain!

Daily Lessons
If you’re looking for less of a commitment than a week-long camp, Whistler offers teen group ski and snowboard lessons, child group ski and snowboard lessons and private lessons for families and children, which can all be booked in advance. Group lessons are a full-day excursion, meaning you’ll have lots of time on the mountain and ski runs. Private half-day lessons are also available. As spaces are limited, Whistler recommends booking well in advance to ensure you don’t miss out. By booking in advance, you’ll also get all the paperwork out of the way which will save you time at drop-off. Don’t forget to bring a helmet and also lots of layers. Nothing ruins a fun day on the slopes like cold fingers and toes.

Good to know: Children ages 6 & under ski for free. Tickets can be collected from a conveniently located ticket window in the village.

Insider tip: If you’re planning on renting equipment, Whistler Blackcomb makes it incredibly convenient. They even have complimentary delivery! If you want to make getting out the door a breeze, it’s recommended that you pick up equipment the day before. That way you won’t have to rush the first day of ski school.

It’s a great mountain for family skiing, and you’re likely to get lots of blue bird days—it boasts 300 sunshiny days a year, so pack your shades. The direr, higher and east-sidier (it’s on the eastern slope of the Cascades) destination means your family will enjoy light, dry powder when you’re bombing down the mountain. Ski School Scoop
Mission Ridge offers lots of different lessons for kids of all ages and abilities, but reserve your spot soon because space is filling up fast. Most of the multi-week lessons are already full, but here's the inside scoop to get in: call them today and get on a waitlist. If your little one is a snowboarder, there is still space. The Flyers programs are a great option for kiddos just starting out in the sport. The program is tailored towards the littlest skiers (ages 3-5) and snowboarders (ages 4-6) and the package includes lessons, lift tickets and rentals. What a deal! Your child gets paired with a youth instructor and gets a personalized one-on-one experience.

Mission Ridge also offers Kids Lessons for children ages 6-12. These lessons are a great way to introduce children to skiing and snowboarding. Kiddos will be grouped with other children of the same ability and age, so they’ll learn to ride and also make friends along the way.

For older kids who have more experience and are interested in becoming instructors, Mission Ridge offers a program called Cadets. It’s a unique offering that lets teenagers 13-15 improve their skills while learning to teach. The multi-week program prepares students to pass a Level 1 instructor certification and goes from December through March.

Stevens Pass

Meet the Mountain
About two hours from Seattle, Stevens Pass can be accessed through the beautiful and winding Cascade Loop Scenic Byway. Perched at the top of sweeping mountain views, right off the highway, Steven’s Pass is a winter wonderland for skiers and snowboarders alike. It offers 1,125 acres of diverse skiable terrain. Children of all ages and abilities have learned to ski there for decades, which is one of the reasons the mountain is so popular. Kids can enroll in both full- and half-day ski and snowboard lessons. Group lessons are small and offer a chance for kids to get comfortable on their skis and boards. Before too long, they’ll be cruising along–probably faster than you!

There are also lots of family activities in and around the resort. Bring a sled and explore the free family sledding hill and snow play area at the Steven’s Pass Nordic Center, located just five miles from the resort. Other activities including cross country skiing, skating and snowshoeing are also just minutes away. And if skiing at night sounds like a good time, don’t miss out on adventures after dark skiing with the family.

Ski School Scoop
The group lessons are a great opportunity for children to engage in small groups with an instructor specifically trained to teach little ones, toddler temper tantrums and all. Group lessons are capped at a maximum of three to six participants, depending on the age group. Half-days are only available for the littlest skiers and snowboarders, and for those enrolled in the full-day group lessons (think: older kiddos) lunch is included. Stevens Pass recommends reserving ski and snowboard lessons in advance by booking through their website. You can also purchase a three-pack if you want to ensure you get your kiddos up at least a few times this year.

If you’re hoping to experience the mountain on quieter days, be sure to visit mid-week. Arriving early, before 9 a.m. also helps ensure parking is available and kiddos get to their lesson on time. Renting equipment ahead of time will also help alleviate some stress and keep you from waiting in lines. Morning check-in will be much smoother if your equipment is ready to go and sized correctly ahead of time.

Insider tip: Lift tickets are complimentary for kiddos ages 3–6.

Expert Advice for Beginning Skiers

Mark Music, Mission Ridge’s Ski School Director, offered up some great tips to help set kiddos up for success on the mountain. He says to focus on comfort and to set realistic expectations. Bring lots of layers, never keep boots out in the cold (your kiddos toes will thank you) and bring hand warmers. That’s the secret he says, having a balaclava or neck gaitor ready, both hand and feet warmers ready to deploy at any moment, and a pair of spare mittens to keep hands dry on a damp day. Also, make room for lots of breaks during the day and head to the bathroom before gearing up in the many, many layers you’ll be packing on your tiny skiers.

It’s also never too early to get a child used to their boots and skis. Before making a trip to the mountain, have your kiddo walk around the living room in their ski gear. It can be a fun way to make believe while also getting them comfortable with what will hopefully be their favorite winter attire.

Music says just getting to the mountain is something to celebrate. “Congratulate yourself for getting to the hill,” he says. “Don’t be hard on yourself. The primary goal is more about getting outside together and making some great memories you’ll be talking about years from now.”

Holiday Sing-Along at Walt Disney Concert Hall

Dec. 3: The Holiday Sing-Along at Walt Disney Concert Hall has long been a beloved tradition of Angelenos. The hall’s massive pipe organ, a choir, and a jazz combo lead concert goers in a joyous selection of seasonal favorites that inspire good cheer. Before the concert starts at 11:30 a.m. and again at 2:30 p.m., arrive early to Winter Wonderland at BP Hall for complimentary hot cocoa, make your own wreath with Makers Mess and take a photo with Santa before the show. Please note kids under age two will not be admitted.

Dec. 10 & Dec. 17: LA Phil’s Gustavo Dudamel hosts and conducts this long-time holiday favorite with a special twist. Leading selections from both Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and Billy Strayhorn and Duke Ellington’s The Nutcracker Suite—a swinging reimagining of the original. Las Posadas on Olvera St.

Dec. 16 – Dec. 24: As one of LA’s oldest Christmas events, Las Posadas is an extra special experience. Seasonal entertainment commences nightly starting at 5 p.m. and includes a lovely candlelight procession starting at Avila Adobe at 7 p.m. The leaders of the march (who are usually little ones) dress as shepherds, angels, Mary and Joseph, and are followed by dozens of other worshippers. The procession strolls up and down Olvera Street singing songs in English and Spanish. They make stops at stores along the way requesting shelter but will be denied until they are eventually admitted and receive complimentary champurrado, pan dulce, and pinatas bursting in celebration.

Los Angeles Master Chorale: Carols on the Plaza

Dec. 19: This free event features conductor Grant Gershon, 20 singers from the Los Angeles Master Chorale, a piano, and you!
