Silent night? Not so much… in preparation for the Christmas season, take your crew’s carol singing to new levels with the Tobi 2 Interactive Karaoke Machine. Here’s how this whimsical machine can create a festive family sing-a-long and memories that’ll last a lifetime:

Prep Your Playlist

Kick off the holiday spirit by asking your family to share their favorite Christmas carols and songs in advance so you can prep your playlist. When it’s party time, connect the Tobi 2 Interactive Karaoke Machine to an external smart device using wireless Bluetooth® technology and play any song through the built-in speaker. Heads up: you’re about to ensure people of all ages are happy and entertained for hours (a win-win!).

O Come All Ye Rockstars

Grab the corded microphone and spread joy to the world (or at least throughout the living room). Reduce the volume of the vocals to let your own voice take center stage. Worried you can’t carry a tune? There’s pitch correction to enhance singing. So, no excuses!

Break Out the Sweaters

Wardrobe is an important part of any superstar's performance, including a Christmas carol karaoke night. Pull your best over-the-top holiday attire out from storage to get in the festive mood!

Rock around the Christmas Tree

There are tons of cool features to make this season extra celebratory. Kids love dancing to the LED lightshow with Tobi’s fun expressions, built-in songs and beats. And things will certainly get silly by adding different voice effects and sounds. Wind down each performance with a rousing round of applause. To keep the festivities going from anywhere in the room, use the Tobi 2 Robot Smartwatch (sold separately) as a remote control.

No, It's Not Too Early for Cookies

Those Christmas cookies you love each December? You can make them any day of the year. Or, try one of these tasty new recipes!

Save Your Favorite Tunes

Who knew grandma was a secret superstar? Or that Dad actually knew all the words to Holy Night? The Tobi 2 Interactive Karaoke Machine lets you save up to nine recordings to make a greatest hits collection for a future listening session.

Have a Dance Off

Not only can the Tobi 2 Interactive Karaoke Machine get your family singing, but you’ll be dancing all night, too. Play seven interactive games including Freeze Dance, Rap n’ Record, and Laugh Attack.

All you need are 4 AA batteries and an audience to get this party started! (Just remember to share the mic.) Merry Christmas!

  1. You muted your microphone on a Zoom call but forgot to turn your camera off to yell at a child to get back on their kindergarten Google Meet. Your entire team is now terrified of making you mad.
  2. You made an unexpected appearance in said kindergarten Google Meet that you thought was muted but wasn’t. Now your child’s entire kindergarten class is also terrified of you.
  3. You pull on a sweater over your dirty t-shirt ten seconds before a meeting and pop in with a big smile and a bigger cup of coffee.
  4. People constantly tell you that you look tired. Mostly because you are tired. So tired. But you just smile and nod because responding would make more people scared of you.
  5. You have attended a meeting, paid attention, changed a diaper, unloaded the dishwasher, and fed the dog in the last three minutes.
  6. You have been hit in the head with a Nerf dart or some sort of ball during a video meeting.
  7. You don’t wear real pants anymore. Ever.
  8. You are stretched so thin that you think you might not be able to do this any longer.
  9. When you get the rare chance to go to the office, you cherish it. You can be alone and sit in silence and drink coffee and think without hearing crying or barking or the tv or a microwave or screaming YouTubers.
  10. You have had a meeting or important call while crouching in a closet or in the bathroom because it’s the only place your kids can’t find you.

I am a full time working mom with two little boys, Henry and Simon. I write about real life and real life gets messy. Contributor for Motherly, HuffPost Parents, Scary Mommy, Today Parents, Love What Matters and Her View From Home.

Our new series, Tiny Birth Stories, is aimed at sharing real-life stories from our readers to our readers. In just 100 words or less, we’re bringing you the raw, the funny and the heartwarming stories you’ve lived while bringing babies into the world. Here are five stories that will have you laughing, crying and nodding your head in solidarity.

My daughter is with the band by Roxanne

I was about to go on stage at a dive bar at a friend’s concert, to receive a thank-you gift for supporting them, when my water broke dramatically. I climbed the stairs to the stage and informed my friend quietly. He then shouted in shock into the microphone, “Holy ****, your water just broke!” I greeted the crowd, and announced that I was on my way to the hospital. My daughter was born three hours later, five days before her due date. The band visited us in the maternity ward the next day, and my daughter was featured on their next album cover.

The surprise of twins by Melissa S.

The ultrasound tech says, “oh, I see the problem!” As I try not to panic, she then says, “It’s twins!” So. Many. Emotions. But wait, I’m an identical twin! Twins don’t have twins, it’s supposed to skip a generation. It didn’t and what was supposed to be a birth center birth, became a home birth. Fast forward to 38 weeks plus 3 days at 1:05 am and 1:26 am we welcomed Natalie and Lacey into our newly purchased and renovated home. When they joined our family, we went from 2 little girls to 4. Twins are considered high risk and because of our birth center’s state certification, they couldn’t continue my care. After 3 Doctors told me I couldn’t deliver them naturally, we found a midwife that had actually birthed her own twins at home! Definitely double delight!

My experience giving birth during COVID-19 by Lauren F.

When my sister-in-law gave birth early in the pandemic, April 2020, I felt sorry for her but thought surely by the time I had my baby that summer things would be normal. I went to doctor’s appointments by myself; my husband wasn’t allowed. I always stood in the waiting room—afraid of seats other patients used—and stripped my clothes and showered once home. When I packed my hospital bag, I threw in a coveted canister of Clorox wipes, snacks so my husband wouldn’t have to leave the room, and of course hand sanitizer. My two older children would have to wait to meet their sibling; no visitors were allowed in the hospital. People asked if it was difficult to labor while wearing a mask. Truthfully, I was so consumed with the wellbeing of my baby, whose heart rate dropped to 50 beats per minute at one point during labor, that I didn’t notice the fabric on my face. I don’t think that makes me a super mom; I think that just makes me a mom.

My water broke like a water gun by Hannah

I had gone over my due date by eight days and was so done. Labored fifteen hours at home, two in the hospital and an hour of pushing with zero medical intervention. One push and my water broke and squirted across the room like a water gun and hit the midwife in the chest. “Wow! I haven’t seen a water break like that in years” the midwife exclaimed. Everyone hadn’t seen a baby with that much hair before. Grandma is a nurse on that floor and says he is still talked about to this day.

My placenta wouldn’t let me go by Kim

My Little Dude was diagnosed with a major heart defect during a regular ultrasound. I was assured that I could safely deliver naturally, but Little Dude would need surgery sometime after he was born. Well, Little Dude refused to come on time, so I was induced. Things went well, and Little Dude was born after 24 hours with less than two hours of pushing. The hard part turned out to be the placenta! It refused to detach! My Little Dude was taken for an echocardiogram while I was wheeled into a surgery room to remove the placenta. ☹

I recently saw a quote circulating around the internet that said: “As a grown-up I’ve learned that all the ‘Christmas Magic’ I felt as a kid was just a Mom and Dad who loved me.” I may or may not have slowed my scroll and got emotional thinking about all the fun magic that my parents brought to Christmas.

Then I panicked and thought am I bringing the fun of Christmas to my kids?! Parenting Whitman and Vivi is like parenting the sun and the moon. Whitman is very cool very chill. He accepts things for what they are and doesn’t question it for the most part. Which is amazing because he is non verbal and on the spectrum.

Then there’s Genevieve she runs hot on the daily, and asks 80 million questions. I’ve started a retirement fund—I add a dime every time she says: “Ummmm Mummy?” I asked her last week if she wanted to write Santa a letter to receive an elf on the shelf. Her response: “NO. Santa knows.” Last year, at the ripe old age of 2, we ruined her Christmas in someway. I’m not sure if it was the gifts, but she kept asking “Who got me dis, and why dis?!” People were in her space. And she informed us numerous times that this wasn’t great and she wasn’t having a good time. At any rate I feel like the “Christmas Magic” was a loss on Vivi.

Thinking back to the Christmas magic of my youth, we had all these traditions. When we lived in New Philadelphia we went to the Beitzel’s, ate, exchanged gifts, and then went to church for the Christmas Eve Service. After the Christmas Eve Service we’d go to other side of town and celebrate Jesus’s Birthday with the McInturf’s. I’m pretty sure we did this tradition through 8 Christmases. And truth be told it was my favorite. We’d come home full of hope and cake. Santa would come and we’d open presents then we’d either load up in the car and go to my MeeMee and Papa’s or they’d come to our house for a few days. It was pure Christmas magic!

As we got older and moved to Illinois, Christmas traditions looked different. One year we went to Florida. Most of the time though we stayed and made new memories. Basketball is big in the midwest so it was usually Christmas, then the next day tournaments started at 8 a.m. and that’s how you spent your break until New Year’s Eve. Truth be told, I don’t remember a lot of the Christmases in Illinois. I remember parts like the year my brother wrapped everything in duct tape. Or the year he used athletic bags as wrapping paper so the sweater he got me smelled sweaty. The year my mom had been sick and she didn’t get to go shopping so she had bought everything off of QVC (before they had a webpage). All in all, I just remember laughing and being happy.

I remember last Christmas before my Dad had his stroke like it was yesterday. Mainly because you don’t ever think it’ll be the last time you know things to be and when it hits you that it was the last time it forces you to remember everything about that day. I remember I spent the night at my parents instead of going to my apartment. We waited until my grandparents got to the house to open gifts. I put together all kinds of pictures of my parents and us through out the years to the song “The Gambler.” I remember thinking I thought the song described my parents. Never realizing that they’d live that song in some ways.

I went and picked up my then-boyfriend, now husband, to get him in on the Christmas festivities. My brother read a poem written in Jeremy’s honor. My dad hid a gift for Jermey in the Christmas tree and my mom boldly asked why my dad would have hid it outside in the big tree in their front yard?! My mom had bought plates from Target and it was questioned if we were at Campbell Christmas Dinner or a Renaissance Fair. The day was a messy kind of perfect with the best people. My husband and I laugh to this day and he once told me that he was grateful he got to see the Campbell Christmas in all it’s glory. The following May my dad suffered a massive stroke that changed the dynamic of our lives forever.

I think it was the following Christmas, the first, post-stroke Christmas that I realized that Christmas has always been 100% about the people you are with and not about the karaoke machine that was bought for my brother and me but that my dad used every Christmas. From Blue Velvet to Achy Breaky Heart. John Campbell would sing his heart out for hours over the holidays. There was the year Christmas was cancelled because my mom hid the tapes for the karaoke machine and my dad thought Tyler or I lost them. There was the year none of our gifts came in because my dad ordered them on Ebay so we got manilla envelopes with printed out pictures of what he ordered for us. Some of our Christmases could be compared to the movie “Christmas Vacation,” but they were always a good kind of crazy.

This will be the first Christmas that my dad is gone and I’m trying my hardest to duplicate the Christmas magic that he brought year after year. I may bring out a karaoke microphone and let everyone sing from the lyrics on our TV and hope that my dad is watching us try to make the Christmas magic he helped with for all those years. I hope someday my own kids will look back on Christmas and think about the fun crazy times and how much their mom and dad loved them and wanted them to have the best Christmas. I hope we can duplicate the magic.

Let’s be real. When you have your own business and you work from home AND you have a baby…there will be A LOT of days where you only get work done during naptime. “Work while baby sleeps” is a real thing and you can be surprisingly productive during this time. While some naps are better than others, if you have the right setup (and mindset), naptime can be a time to grow your business significantly.

As a mother who worked from home through two babies (and little help), here are my absolute favorites and also my work from home must-haves. From the coziest sweatshirt to a great baby monitor, here is what got me through the many naptimes when work was calling.

1

Infant Optics Video Baby Monitor DXR-8

Keep taps while you work during naptime. A must have.

A great monitor is so worth the investment. I can be at peace working away during the baby's nap, if I have a great monitor. A video is so helpful and one with a microphone so you can talk to baby from your office is also great. This monitor was our favorite.

The pandemic has ground many industries and sources of entertainment to a halt, and that includes movie theaters. If you’ve been missing the smell of buttered popcorn and action-packed flicks, your choice to return to the theater has arrived.

AMC Theatres is now allowing private rentals for up to a group of 20 people, and it won’t break the bank. Starting at $99, guests can select their movie, location and add-ons such as food, drink, microphone rental and additional time to gain access to the auditorium through the AMC website. While the specific movie and extras can add up, it’s more than doable to host your own private showing on a budget.

When you select your movie, the site will show the cost for the film, which can range from $99 to $349 plus tax. Currently, AMC is hosting some classics that include Monsters Inc., Jurassic Park and The Nightmare Before Christmas in addition to newer films like The War on Grandpa. Newer films will cost more than an old fave.

All you have to do is fill out the Events Inquiry Form, wait a few days to be contacted, then head to the theater to enjoy your AMC Safe & Clean auditorium.

There’s a Singing Baby Shark Toothbrush & Brushing Just Got Fun

Be Ready for This Baby Shark Toy to Be on Your Kid’s Wish List in 2020

Wash Your Hands with Baby Shark

I often wonder why costumes are so special to children. One of my children would get stuck on a particular costume for months—wearing the same thing every day. As a preschooler, he seemed to really believe that he would fly a rescue helicopter if he just had the right gear on. He would leave his “rescue helicopter pilot suit” by his bed at night, a suit which included the jumpsuit, rain boots, and a bike helmet to which he attached the plastic lid of a fruit container and some pipe cleaners to look like a mask and microphone. One night he showed up at my bed, fully dressed in his rescue helicopter pilot suit, telling me the airport had called—there was an emergency and he had to go fly the helicopter. It was 3 a.m.; he was 4 years old.

Then he moved onto the Santa costume—beard and all. He wore that for more than a month. He wore Santa pajamas to Christmas Eve service and threw a sport coat and bowtie on only to appease me—and to perhaps get even higher on Santa’s good list. After all, he had asked Santa for some pixie dust for Christmas that year so that he could fly like Santa’s reindeer.

Though he never flew a helicopter or like Santa’s reindeer, there was a common thread with these costumes—it seemed he really believed that the costume would ignite a bit of magic inside of him and he could then do the impossible. Or at least imagine the impossible in such real terms that it would change his very being. Regardless, there was a belief that magic is possible if you can only kindle that yearning within one’s self.

As adults, many of us also seem to be trying on costumes—costumes of the right job, the clothes which portray success, the good school for our kids, the impressive home in the right neighborhood, a place in the sought after social circles. These adult costumes are expensive, time-consuming, and surface-level for too many of us. We seek them out not to kindle something wonderful and inspiring inside us, but rather to fit others’ expectations of us. They are not about flying a rescue mission to save someone else, but rather to save ourselves from criticism or rejection.

We adults no longer believe in magic at all, let alone any magic within us—we understand the science behind what seems impossible; we know if it is too good to be true, it is a scam; and we are too busy to notice the enduring power of our actions, words, and relationships. We can become so frantic and drained trying to keep our heads above water that we are not still enough to hear the yearning within us. So many of us are overwhelmed with bad news and stress that we can’t see any magic in this world or believe we have any sort of power to change the world around us for the better. For so many of us grown-ups, we don’t see the disconnect between our inner yearnings and gifts and the artificial costumes of our lives.

What would our world look like if we adults sought costumes which kindle something wonderful in us? What if we adults recognized that kind words, selfless acts, and deep relationships are so powerful the effects cannot be explained by science alone? What if we took a bit of this time in quarantine to be still and listen for our yearnings, to see that we don’t need the expensive or “right” costumes to be happy, to understand the disconnect between our yearnings and our costumes? What if we started to admit that even though we are grown up there is yet a little flicker of magic within us and worked to build a costume that nurtures that magic into a roaring flame? What hope could we inspire, what joy could we bring, what change could we embody?

Heather lives in Louisville, Kentucky with her husband, three sons, one dog, one bearded dragon, and one fish. She is a lawyer, but currently home with her children. When she is not mom-ing, she likes to spend time with her family and friends, watch documentaries, and go for a jog!

Now there is a stuffed animal that can play along with your kids. Jazwares is introducing Fuzzible Friends, the first kids plush with Alexa Gadgets technology. Pair Fuzzible Friends with a compatible Amazon Echo device, and, using the Fuzzible skill for Alexa, open up a world where technology enriches, entertains, and encourages little ones to use their imagination.

 Fuzzible Friends

These adorably plush animals speak a funny little language that Alexa magically translates through the kid-directed Fuzzible skill. A child can interact with their Fuzzible by playing color guessing games, choose their own story, and more.  There are four Fuzzible Friends to collect—each with its own unique personality and language—including Cubby the Fox, Fluff the Bunny, Sparkles the Unicorn, and Cuddles the Puppy.

“It’s been a unique opportunity to be able to bring the Alexa technology into the world of play in a brand new and enriching way,” said Jeremy Padawer, EVP/Partner at Jazwares. “Fuzzible Friends utilizes the technology to open new doors for our children’s already active imagination.”

This product does not have a microphone or speaker, however once you’ve paired your cuddly Fuzzible Friend with your compatible Echo device via Bluetooth, just say, “Alexa, let’s play Fuzzible Friends.”  Once Alexa indicates your Fuzzible is ready to play, have your child squeeze its left paw to begin interacting and watch its antenna light up.  Fuzzible Friends™ plush have over 40 sounds and 140 translated phrases.  Kids can also enjoy their Fuzzible Friend when it’s not connected to an Echo device in another mode.  Even though it won’t be able to give translations of its unique language, every press of the left paw will still prompt your new pal to talk to your child and its antenna to light up.

Fuzzible Friends features include:

  •       Interactive Play: Use the Fuzzible skill for Alexa and a compatible Amazon Echo device for interactive fun.  Play cool guessing games or choose your own story adventures!
  •       From their language to yours: Listen as Fuzzible skill for Alexa magically translates the Fuzzible Friends’™ language on your compatible Echo device (parental or guardian consent required).  There are 140 translated phrases.
