Foodie families take note! The list of the most popular food and drink baby names is here and goes all the way back to 2000. If you’re ready to gain some sweet inspiration for a future child, these names prove there are never too many Olives or Clementines to go around.

Exante examined name trends for kids born in the U.S. and the U.K. to compile a report on Foodie Baby Names. The research found that more baby girls (76,893) were named after food and drink than boys (16,533). The top name for both boys and girls? Sage (16,219 girls and 7,953 boys). And the full top 10:

  1. Sage
  2. Olive
  3. Rosemary
  4. Juniper
  5. Brandy
  6. Kale
  7. Clementine
  8. Honey
  9. Margarita
  10. Saffron

If you’re looking for something a little more unique, Exante also reported on some obscure choices. The most unusual names included Ice, Merlot, Chilli, Mocha, Barley and Plum. Will those names age like a fine wine? Too soon to tell!

Are your kids obsessed with YouTube? Since 2015, With so many children logging on each day, the demand is high for fresh and exciting content. Frugal living blog Top Dollar researched every country’s most popular kids channels to help your little one find a safe new channel to enjoy.

YouTube Study
As well as mapping the top channels, the team also found the top earning child YouTubers.

YouTube Study

In order to find out the most popular YouTuber in each country, the Top Dollar team used statistical websites Social Blade and Vidooly to find out which YouTuber has the most subscribers. To calculate each channel’s earnings, researchers then used Banner Tag to find the average daily views for each channel and estimated how much it was earning using a site called Noxinfluencer, which estimates earnings based on views and subscribers.

To find the top beauty, gaming and kids channels, the team studied the most subscribed channels, read ‘About’ pages and watched the videos to see if they fit into these categories. It proved difficult deciding what channels would fit the ‘influencer’ category for some countries, especially those with obscure content. In these cases, if it looked like it was an individual making the videos, they counted them as a YouTuber. For some countries, the team were not able to find any reliable channels. For others, they couldn’t find the CPM rate. In many cases, a channel claimed to be from one country when it was obvious from their videos that they lived elsewhere. Any channels that did this were not included.

Say Bye to the Disney Vault because Disney+ Will Have the Entire Disney Library

As a parent, keeping your child safe is understandably your utmost priority. That’s why when buying products for your little ones, it’s definitely important that you know what you’re buying and have peace of mind that you can trust the source or brand of the thing you’re buying. The last thing you want is to give your child a toy they adore and get attached to, only for it to be recalled two weeks later.

But sadly, some things aren’t up to snuff.

A recall can be a nightmare for a parent, not only being forced to rip the possession away from their child, but also planting fear that the product has harmed their child in the process. In fact, there are a number of recall trends like this that have come up over the last decade. Nearly one-third of all recalls are in the children’s product market, so being informed is key to avoiding dangerous products.

So, Why are Products Recalled?

While some children’s products are recalled for simple reasons that may not phase you like some kind of obscure federal regulation, other reasons can pose very serious concerns. When a product doesn’t get used exactly how the retailer intended, it can result in choking, strangulation, entrapment, or laceration. Those experiences are no joke, which is to say that no matter how intelligent your little one may be, a defective toy can have some dangerous effects that certainly should not be risked.

Amazon is the Leading Retailer with Recalls

Of all children’s recalls, just under 17% of them derived from popular online retailer Amazon.com. We all know and love how convenient Amazon is. You can order while you’re making dinner, you can order while you’re trying to put the babies to sleep…you name it. But while this site is incredibly convenient for parents to shop without taking too much time out of their busy lifest‌yle, it is incredibly important to read the product details and reviews in full so that consumers know exactly what they are purchasing for their child.

The only other retailer responsible for over 10% of children’s products recalls was former Toys-R-Us with 118 recalls in the past decade. Other retailers that make up the top five in recalls include Target, Walmart, and Kohls. It’s safe to say it would be wise to keep these recalls in mind the next time you’re shopping for something for your little one.

The Most Common Response is a Refund.

While retailers and manufacturers can respond in a variety of ways when they realize there was an oversight, the most common response is to refund the consumers. This is the most common response especially when a product is recalled for choking, ingestion, fire, or federal reasons.

Other popular methods of dealing with the issue is to replace or repair the product. Manufacturers can also opt to provide new instructions, labels or advise people to dispose of the merchandise. For products recalled for strangulation, lead violation or entrapment, the solution was often unspecified.

The moment manufacturers realize their product could place consumers in the eye of danger, they will quickly take action to minimize future damages. This is why it’s so important to pay attention to recalls and instructions of the companies who created the gadget.

While no parent can be perfect, being an informed parent gives you just one more tool to plant under your belt to deal with whatever life throws at your family. You definitely shouldn’t live in fear of a toy lighting on fire and burning your child, but you should pay attention to recalls when they arise. Telling a child they can’t play with their favorite toy anymore can be a difficult task, but it could also be essential to their safety.

3 Brand NEW Kid’s Podcasts You’ll Want to Listen to NOW

Photo: Author’s Own

Dear Husband,

We met eight years ago in the most unlikely of places–Las Vegas. I observed this tall, dark, and handsome man talking to my friend, and something happened internally to me. Your face seemed familiar, your Southern accent drew me in, and the way you looked at me slowed down the constant chatter in my mind. You shook my soul in mere minutes, and I hadn’t even spoken a word to you yet. After I found the courage to approach you, we talked and didn’t stop talking until the next morning.

Eight years, a marriage, and two rambunctious boys later, my feelings for you have changed, but not in the way you might think. The excitement and curiosity I had about you that first fateful night has evolved into something else entirely. I supposed it started to change when our first son was born. I had moved away from home in Minneapolis to Atlanta with no close family nearby. You were my family and I needed you to be there through the ups and downs of pregnancy, and all that was to come after. When Nash was born, you were in the room encouraging me through the pain and you felt the same blind exhilaration when he cried out for the first time.

I experienced some effects of postpartum depression, or at the very least mild depression after having Nash. The lack of sleep, complete culture shock of a new baby, and little family support made it hard to be happy those first few months. But you were there. You were there to hold me when I just needed to cry. You were there when I didn’t know how to make the baby stop crying. And you were there through all of his major early life milestones, sharing in the joy of each new achievement. I’ll never forget that.

Time passed and I became pregnant again. We secretly hoped for a girl, but laughed together in the doctor’s office when we found out we were having another boy! We knew how much the boys would love each other, and how much they would fight. Again, you were there to support me through the pregnancy and delivery, and this time following a birth, there was no depression. My family was complete, and we were a team working together to make it through the long nights and the even longer days. DC was a much tougher baby–he didn’t sleep through the night until he was well over two, and his ardent refusal to eat anything healthy had us stumped for a while. Luckily we had each other and love in abundance. DC still drives us crazy, especially when we need to get out the door in the morning, but we still take it all in stride–side by side.

Before meeting you I had been in love with a charming boy I met in college. I thought I knew what love was, and what I wanted in all future relationships after that one had ended. I can honestly say now, that I had no clue what it meant to love and be loved before meeting you. To know that someone has seen you at your most vulnerable, and accepts you fully, is a beautiful rare thing. Your fierce love for me and our children binds us for the rest of our lives and I couldn’t be more grateful.

So on this Father’s Day, and all that follow, know that I see you and appreciate everything you have done and continue to do for me and the boys. They will grow into better men because you are in their lives: teaching them about cars, how to play chess, and obscure facts about mayflies and when they hatch. Our relationship is far from perfect, after all my dad did ask if you were sure when you asked him if you could marry me–but we laugh every single day, and that, in my opinion, makes for a pretty spectacular life.

Need an excuse for a family game night? Or better yet, a new scene for board time? Check out Meeples Games in West Seattle, our area’s newest (and coolest) tabletop game store. Its family-friendly vibe will have you passing “Go” in no time. Game on!

What’s in Store
Meeples Games is the newest tabletop game store to hit the Seattle scene. And although it follows familiarly in its predecessors’ footsteps, owner Laura Schneider had a clear vision for this new player. The idea, she explains, was to create a store that’s “accessible, comfortable and welcoming” for everyone. So that the most experienced gamers all the way through to the game-curious can check out and spend time in this gaming spot. Bottom line is you don’t have to understand the store name’s back-story to shop or play there. But if you’re curious about its origins… Meeple is a generic term for any Euro style board game piece. It’s good to be in the know!

The store is organized into two halves, with games shelved by theme or by age, making it easy to find what you’re looking for. All the hot new games, and games recently featured on Wil Wheaton’s TableTop show have their own floor space. A cinch when you need to find good games, fast. Meeples also houses a game library where players can check out the latest and greatest in boarding (of the tabletop variety) any time the store is open. It’s an easy way to test the waters before making a purchase, especially with fickle kiddos in the mix, or to just pass the time. And if you’re interested in group events (for the littles or the bigs), be sure to check out the store’s online event calendar for cool upcoming matches and workshops hosted in the Thunderdome. It’s game face time!

Do You Like Snacks with Your Games?
The one-site café serves up food that pairs well with games (think chips & salsa, veggies & dip), as well as traditional café fare like pastries, salads and even pannini pressed sandwiches, with Gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options available. As for drinks, gamers can enjoy True North Espresso drinks, beer and Jones Soda. And everything’s reasonably priced, too (from $1-$10) so you won’t break the bank if you grab a snack or a drink while playing with the fam. Think of it as your own game room, but without the clean up!

The Big Score for Families
Add family game day at Meeples to your weekend can’t-miss list, and head over to the store between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturdays for some QT with the kiddos. Raid their game library to find a new favorite or play a classic throwback that’ll make you feel young again. Trouble and Mouse Trap are just a few of the vintage titles you’ll find in the gaming library. And Robot Turtles (that coding game for kids you’ve been dying to check out), Pick a Dog (Pig or Polar Bear, too!), and Cranium are some of the more obscure and contemporary titles lurking in the Meeples closet, waiting to be discovered. Take your pick; it’s hard to lose!

A Win for Kids
If you need to spice up the family game closet, Schneider has a few suggestions that will put you in the win column, as far as the kidlets are concerned. Cheeky Monkey, housed in an adorable fuzzy monkey carrying case, is a crowd pleaser of the 4 and up variety. While Carcassonne Junior or The Three Little Pigs Board Game are cool picks for the over 6 crowd. And Bears! just screams “play me” to those over 7. Let’s face it, as Seattle parents, we understand the importance of having a few rainy day indoor game options, even in the summertime.

Good to Know
When you head to Meeples, be sure to look up, because the store is on the second floor. Park on the street or use the lot in the back (both are free) for easy access. See you there!

Since all the moms who work at Red Tricycle have young kids, we can’t help but be aware of which celebrities have children around the same age as our own. For our office Christmas party this year, we hosted a Celebrity Baby Quiz to see who could match the most babies with celeb parents. We had so much fun guessing, we thought we’d share the contest with you (hey, it’s a slow week).

To enter, post your answers in the comments below. We are looking for the name of at least one parent and the name of the child.

We’ll pick 2 winners – the first person to guess all 14 correctly, and then another random entry from all the submissions. Each will win a Red Tricycle kiddie tee.

PS – We intentionally made this difficult by 1. not giving you any names to match-up and 2. deliberately picking obscure photos, but we’re confident some Perez Hilton/People mag readers will prevail!
