Ever wondered how Willy Wonka got his start? The second trailer for the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel just dropped and it’s even better than the first

If anyone needs an origin story, it’s the fascinating, enigmatic, sometimes creepy Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. And the universe heard our plea because it’s coming—Wonka, the long-awaited prequel movie set to be released later this year will explore how the famous chocolate maker got his start.

Warner Bros. just dropped the second official trailer, and to say it got us excited to check this movie out is an understatement. We get a glance at the beginnings of one of Wonka’s infamous chocolate-making machines and a better look into the world that is Loompaland (and more of Hugh Grant’s Oompa Loompa).

The film comes from the same writer and director as Paddington, so you know it’s going to be special. The trailer already hints at music, magic, and just a little bit of mayhem. Also, Timothée Chalamet stars as Wonka, and he seems perfectly cast in the role.

The film’s official synopsis reads, “Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, Wonka tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician, and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.”

According to the trailer, that involves Willy learning to make chocolate, setting up his first store, defeating the “Chocolate Cartel,” and meeting the infamous Oompa Loompas (starting with a very pint-size and orange-faced Hugh Grant). There’s sure to be plenty more surprises when the movie hits theaters, though—and we’ll certainly be there. Wonka is only in theaters nationwide on Dec. 15.

Viola Davis is chilling as Head Gamemaker Dr. Volumnia Gaul

Having learned about The Hunger Games prequel movie being a definite yes since April at CinemaCon 2022, uber-fans have been eagerly awaiting more details. It’s been speculated that the story of Panem would be continued since the book’s release was announced back in 2019, but the news confirmed that fans will finally see the backstory of antagonist Coriolanus Snow in film format.

While the movie definitely won’t have Katniss and Peeta (it takes place 64 years before the first Hunger Games book), Suzanne Collin’s prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, will introduce a young President Snow, and an interesting new character, Lucy Gray Baird, from District 12 (yes, THAT District 12). Here’s a glimpse at the latest trailer for the Hunger Games prequel movie.

The New Trailer for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

In this new look at what is shaping up to be a must-see fall movie release, we get a glimpse of Lucy, played by Rachel Zegler, entering The Hunger Games arena, and it’s a lot different than the arenas Katniss Everdeen took on in the original trilogy. We also see more of the relationship that develops between Snow and Lucy, and how the villainous president of Panem came into existence.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Official Trailer

“I am honored to introduce to you the creator of the Hunger Games,” a menacing Viola Davis declares, at which point we see actor Peter Dinklage downing a shot (how Tyrion!). And with that, we kick off what looks like one hell of an adventure.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Teaser Trailer

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Plot

The prequel follows Snow during his time in the military and his role as a mentor during the 10th Hunger Games in post-war Panem. With Snow’s help, Lucy manages to survive deep into the Games, against all odds. As the story continues, we begin to see the writing on the wall as to who Snow will become in the decades that follow. Directing the film is Francis Lawrence, who also headed up Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2.

Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, shared in his announcement: “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is creatively thrilling and takes this world to complex new dimensions that open up amazing cinematic possibilities. We’re thrilled to reunite this filmmaking team with this very unique franchise, and we can’t wait to begin production.”

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Release Date

The film will be released in theaters on Nov. 17., 2023.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Cast

The hottest casting news on the block is that Viola Davis is joining the film. She has been cast as Head Gamemaker Dr. Volumnia Gaul, who is the epitome of evil. Additionally, Peter Dinklage tackles the role of Casca Highbottom, the original creator of the games. Tom Blyth has been cast as the 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, alongside West Side Story‘s Rachel Zegler as Lucy. Other notables include Andrés Rivera (Sejanus Plinth), Hunter Schafer (Tigris), Jerome Lance (Marcus), Ashley Liao (Clemensia Dovecote), Aamer Husain (Felix Ravinstill), Knox Gibson (Bobbin), Mackenzie Lansing (Coral), Max Raphael (Festus Creed), Zoe Renee (Lysistrata Vickers), Ayomide Adegun (Pliny “Pup” Harrington) and Jason Schwartzman as Lucretius “Lucky” Flickerman.

Here’s your first look at Virgin River Season 5!

Virgin River has amassed millions of fans, all of whom have been not so patiently awaiting its return. Well, it’s our lucky day because Netflix has dropped the first official trailer of season 5. Slated to return to the streaming platform on Sept. 7th, 2023, not only will the first episodes be available in Sept. but in very good news, it was announced there will be a Part 2 dropping on Nov. 3oth, just in time for the holidays. So, get your warm socks and bonfires ready because everyone’s favorite comfort show will be warming everyone up soon.

Even though the trailer covers things we weren’t expecting, according to Netflix, season five will deal with burning questions like who really is the father of Charmaine’s twins (and will she just deliver, already?), what type of terminal illness Denny is dealing with, what’s going on with Brady and Brie, and how will all the trouble for Preacher and Paige get resolved? Executive director and writer Erin Cardillo told Tudum last year, “What you can expect from Season 5 is a lot of answers to the questions you have been waiting for.”

Even more, expect to see some new faces. Executive Producer and writer Richard Keith said in the same interview, “Some new characters are coming to Virgin River this season that will mix things up a bit.”

And, these characters have plenty of time to give us the answers we crave because, in May 2023, Netflix announced that Virgin River has already been renewed for Season 6.

For those who haven’t yet watched the show (what are you waiting for?), Virgin River follows Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse practitioner, midwife, and recent widow who left life in the city after her husband’s death. She starts over in a sleepy little town (circa Sleeping with the Enemy but less murder-y) and joins the hometown practice in Virgin River. She and her boss Doc Mullins form a prickly (but adorable) friendship, and she makes immediate friends, but it’s her steamy romance with Jack (Martin Henderson) that will have you coming back for more.

The series is based on the best-selling romance novels by author Robyn Carr. All the stars are investable, and the scenery and storylines are nothing short of entertaining. The show sucks you in like an old soap opera you’d watch with your grandma when you were sick and home from school.

One thing we love about the series is that, although it feels very Hallmark movie-of-the-week, it doesn’t shy away from big topics like postpartum depression, grief, death, and a fair amount of steamy sex scenes (if we do say so ourselves).

“Jack is very much a man of his word, and very much, very much in love with her,” showrunner Sue Tenney told EW. “Jack and Mel, their love and their commitment to each other, that doesn’t change. How he feels about her does not change. Some circumstances happen around them—and the reactions and how they deal with those things.”

A new trailer for the live-action Barbie movie gives additional plot details and we cannot wait

Get your rollerblades ready! Barbie is one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2023, and we’ve just been given additional plot details for the live-action adaptation that hits theaters in July of this year.

It all starts with Barbie and Ken practicing their choreographed dance moves with all the other Barbies and Kens at a dance party until Barbie asks, “Do you ever think of death?” This naturally stops the other Barbies in their tracks. When Barbie’s feet go from permanent tippy toe to flat on the ground, she knows something really has changed. Barbie must choose between the heels of her current life or the brown leather Birkenstocks that will lead her to the Real World where she can learn the truth about the universe. You’ll love the road trip scene with Indigo Girls singalong as well as Will Ferrell as the Mattel CEO desperate to get Barbie back in her box.

The previous trailer gave us a glimpse into Barbie’s world.

The sure-to-be-unforgettable film was written and directed by Greta Gerwig, and stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken—we’re already looking to book tickets in advance. The cast list is stacked, including Issa Rae as “President Barbie,” Simu Liu as “Ken,” Michael Cera as a character named Allen, and America Ferrera as a “human,” among many others. There’s a lot of pink in Barbie Land, of course, there’s a mention of a “beach-off” challenge. We see Barbie and Ken spending time cruising around in the classic Barbie Corvette, there’s some dance club action, and it looks as though Barbie will meet some pretty important people (look for a cameo by Will Ferrell!).

The teaser trailer released earlier this year gave us a sneak peek.

The teaser trailer satirizes 2001: A Space Odyssey, slowly unveiling Margot Robbie as a towering Barbie doll in a prehistoric age before showing little girls smashing their baby dolls in favor of this fashionable, grown-up one. Then, it transitions into what looks like a montage of musical numbers. To say we’re excited about this movie would be an absolute understatement.

Back in June of 2022, Barbie producers gave fans sneak a peek of its star-studded lineup, including Margot Robbie, who is both producing and starring as the iconic, titular doll and Ken, played by Ryan Gosling.

At CinemaCon in April 2022, Warner Bros. shared a shot of Robbie in her infamous Barbie get-up and hot pink convertible, and a few months later, they revealed Gosling looking all sorts of Extreme Makeover for his part as Ken.

Fans have been reacting to his, um, look since the images became available:

In the viral pic, Gosling rocked a denim vest, platinum blond hair, a side smirk, and, lest we not forget, the peep of his underwear with “Ken” emblazoned on it. But Gosling isn’t the only hairless wonder. Fellow Ken Simu Liu described waxing his entire body to get ready for Barbie, saying it was “one of the most painful experiences of my life,” adding, “I have such a newfound admiration for the incredibly brave women who go through this on a monthly basis.” Bless.

For her part, Robbie is thrilled to bring some much-needed positivity to the big screen, especially being directed by Greta Gerwig (Little Women and Lady Bird). “With that come[s] a lot of exciting ways to attack it,” Robbie told British Vogue. “People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t…’”

Barbie’s theatrical release is set for July 21, 2023.

It’s official—Aiden is back for season 2

Sex and the City fans, hang onto your martinis. We’ve been waiting for news about the second season of And Just Like That… and today HBO Max (which officially becomes MAX on May 23) delivered the goods. Not only did the streaming service give us the first official trailer, but it also announced that new episodes will be available to watch starting in June.

We’ve known for a few months that John Corbett (yes, the Aidan Shaw) will be returning to reunite with his former flame, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), on HBO Max’s And Just Like That… But now the trailer officially confirms it.

In addition to the star power of Corbett, another television favorite is making an appearance: Tony Danza. Deadline reports Danza is set to play Che’s father in season two of the series. What else do we know? Well, it seems as though Charlotte is concerned with a MILF list that’s been going around her kids’ private school, Miranda and Che are taking new steps in their relationship, and while Samantha Jones doesn’t seem to be making a return, she and Carrie still stay in touch.

In January, Parker posted a whole carousel of pics to her Instagram, showing her and Aidan, in the middle of a busy NYC street, sharing a passionate kiss. In another photo, they’re in a full embrace. This comes just weeks after HBO released some official production photos of Corbett reprising his role as Aidan.

Corbett and Kim Cattrall were the only two Sex and the City favorites who did not appear in the first season of And Just Like That… While Cattrall made it clear she was not interested in returning, Corbett teased fans before the series premiered, telling Page Six in April 2021, “I think I might be in quite a few [episodes].”

SJP thought his stunt was particularly funny. “When he actually reached out—very kindly, because he’s nothing if not a gentleman—and apologized for doing that as a joke… I was like, ‘No, no, no, it’s a free country first of all.’ And I thought it was kind of delightful and kind of fun,” she told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in February. She also hinted that nothing was off the table. “Having said that, I think he would be … well I’m not gonna—I mean, yes, all of it is possible,” she said.

Alas, it was not to be. Executive producer Michael Patrick King told Deadline it would have been “a lot” for Carrie’s character after her husband, Mr. Big (Chris Noth), passed away in the first episode of the season.

“We wanted to get her through [Big’s death] and into the light—the last episode is called ‘Seeing the Light.’ [Aidan’s return] is a big storyline that everybody at home wrote that we had never intended.”

Whatever the rationale, fans will be over the moon when they see that handsome giant gracing their screens. Of course, one can only hope they are both mentally healthy and available to rekindle a romance that was still very much alive.

The new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hints at an MCU connection

Good news, Mile Morales fans, official trailer #2 for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has arrived and it includes a whole lot of hints about what’s in store for Miles and all the other Spider-people of the multiverse. And, in a huge teaser, Spider-Man 2099 (voiced by Oscar Isaac), throws some shade at Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Strange. Remember, MCU’s version of Earth was mentioned in 2022’s Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, so should we expect some crossover action soon?

The nearly three-minute trailer gives us some of the fullest glimpses into Miles’ world—and shows him reuniting with Gwen Stacy on a trip through the multiverse where the two encounter a whole web of new spider-people, also doing their best to protect the world from evil. But the spider-people are having a hard time agreeing about how to handle The Spot, a mysterious threat to the multiverse, and it will be up to Miles to figure out a path forward that protects the world.

The trailer is packed with brief glimpses of the action we can expect to see, but we also see the stress of Miles’ real life stacking up. He’s late to a party and argues with his mom. He’s getting an A in AP science, but a B+ (gulp) in Spanish. He faces the tough decision as to whether or not he can save both the people closest to him and the rest of the world. It’s clear that Miles will be tested in ways he’s never imagined, and we are here for it.

Returning characters include Miles, Rio, and Spider-Gwen, plus Peter B. Parker and Jefferson Davis. New characters include Jessica Drew (voiced by Issa Rae), Spider-Man 2099 (voiced by Oscar Isaac), and Spider-Punk (voiced by Daniel Kaluuya). Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the first installment in a two-part sequel to 2018’s Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse. It’s set to hit theaters on June 2, 2023.

Ted Lasso is coming back for Season 3, and this trailer will have you counting the days!

Ted Lasso fans, the time is finally here! Apple TV just dropped a full trailer ahead of the Season 3 premiere on March 15, and you’re going to want to get your tissues ready now.

The new trailer, which is set to “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones, doesn’t give away too much about the third season’s plot, but does hint at plenty of heartwarming moments, which is all we want from Ted Lasso anyway, TBH. In one particularly tear-inducing moment, the team huddles up in the locker room to do their pre-game cheer, led by Sam: “On 3, I love you all so very much!”

This official trailer comes just a few weeks after Apple first announced the March 15 premiere date and dropped a surprise teaser trailer (which is also very enjoyable).

The teaser shows the whole AFC Richmond crew in the locker room, with each member making their own version of Ted’s iconic “Believe” sign to hang up and surprise their coaches. It’s bad news for the national Kleenex supply that Apple has given us exactly one minute of footage for season 3, and we’re already tearing up. Bring on more Ted Lasso!

Fans will recall that Season 2 of Ted Lasso ended on a major cliffhanger, with the realization that Nathan had left AFC Richmond to coach rival club West Ham. Throughout Season 2, we saw Ted struggle with his personal demons (and finally give therapy a shot), while he failed to notice Nate’s growing resentment at the amount of unrecognized work he was doing for the Richmond team as an assistant coach. Well, it’s all come to a head, and we can expect to see that drama play out in Season 3 when it premieres this spring.

Several weeks ago, Apple dropped a first-look photo from the upcoming season, which shows an intense-looking Nathan facing off with Ted, who is, of course, all smiles. It’s nice to see that some things never change.

Apple TV

Ahead of Season 3, the cast and crew are staying tight-lipped about what viewers can expect. On a recent panel, Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence said, “I’ve seen cuts, and it’s fucking amazing,” but declined to offer any other details. It’s pretty widely believed, however, that the third season will be the last. Star Jason Sudeikis told Entertainment Weekly last year that he saw a three-season arc being just right for Ted Lasso—though he’d be open to doing more of the show. Sadly, co-star and writer Brett Goldstein has mentioned that the third season is being written as a “curtain call.”

Even if Season 3 is the end of Ted Lasso, the show will have had quite a run by then. It’s one of the most popular series Apple TV has ever produced, racking up 40 Emmy nominations (and 11 wins) in its first two seasons.

Dead to Me’s Season 3 is finally here!

There have been a lot of starts and stops for Dead to Me loyalists (thanks, pandemic), but a few months ago,  Netflix announced that the hit show’s third and final season would be released soon. Well that time has come! The fan favorite premieres on Netflix, today.

Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini play two grieving women who bond during therapy, but the premise of that bond is a dark and horrific lie. The series was quickly renewed after its first season, but in July 2020—when it was renewed for its final season—the show was thrown a few curveballs. The pandemic delayed filming until last spring 2021, and then Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Now though, it’s finally on track for a November 17 debut, and no one can wait to find out how the cliffhanger from Season 2 will end.

The trailer shows Jen being rushed to the hospital after the crash, and the duo is refreshingly alive—and pissed.”Could you get the f–king doctor,” says Judy first, quickly followed by Jen (in a slightly calmer voice), “Could you please get the f–king doctor?” Can. Not. Wait.

Loyal fans will be relieved to know there have been no new cast announcements, so it’s safe to assume that the slate of actors who got them through the dark days of lockdown will be there to usher them toward the grand finale. The official season description reads”Jen is confronted with the dire consequences of taking a life, and Detective Perez (Diana Maria Riva) struggles to cover up her own complicity. Meanwhile, Judy faces her own existential crisis when her life is threatened by an unexpected force from her past and Ben (James Marsden) wrestles with his darkest demons. This season, no one’s future is guaranteed. Will Jen and Judy get away with their lives? And can they save each other?”

And here’s the new poster:

Roald Dahl’s beloved Matilda is hitting the silver screen as a musical

The tale about a curious girl with a non-stop imagination, has already been turned into a Broadway musical. Now, it’s time for Matilda to take flight in a new Netflix movie!

The streaming provider just dropped the first official trailer for the musical movie and it looks every bit as lovable as the book. Last year, Netflix acquired the rights to the Roald Dahl Story Company that includes works such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant PeachThe Witches and The BFG. Matilda the Musical won’t be the only Dahl story reimagined under the partnership.

The company shares that “This acquisition builds on the partnership we started three years ago to create a slate of animated TV series. Academy Award winning filmmaker Taika Waititi and Academy Award nominee Phil Johnston are now hard at work on a series based on the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Ever the quiet observer, Matilda comes up with her own fantasy-laden stories, in addition to acts of revenge. Once she steps foot onto her new school campus, Crunchem Hall, Matilda is in for more than she bargained for.

In addition to her inspiring teacher, Miss Honey, she also has to contend with Miss Trunchbull, the epitome of evil. Not only that, her school is dark and dreary, and not at all what she thought.
