For a stroller that’s compact and durable, but without sacrificing style points turn to the Bugaboo Bee 5. It’s a no-brainer for on-the-go city families. It’s super easy for parents to use and ultra comfortable for baby to cruise around in. Here’s what we like about it:

Nimble for caregiver
The Bugaboo Bee 5 has an incredibly lightweight yet comprehensive design. This stroller is meant for daily use as its advanced four-wheel suspension can take on any cracked sidewalks, bumpy streets, or park terrain. That means whether you’re one-handed steering through tight spaces like train cars and coffee shops or squeezing onto an escalator, the Bugaboo Bee 5 does it with ease.

And the compact chassis makes it extremely easy to fold and store just about anywhere. Everything can be done with a single hand, which kind of defines city living: swiping a metropass, hailing a taxi, or pushing a swing while sipping your morning latte. You always need one hand free.

Comfortable for baby
Bugaboo is practically synonymous with luxury when it comes to baby gear. It’s like flying first class for your little one because it’s just that comfy. The seat has extra padding and three different recline positions to switch up depending on what your child needs at that moment: an eye out to the world or a stroller nap. The seat is also fully reversible, so your baby can face you or face out to take in the sights and scenes.

Navigating stairs, subways, and sidewalks is never a problem, whether you’re exploring your neighborhood or traveling far from home. When baby is a newborn, use the baby bassinet and glide on over to storytime at the local library. When she grows with enough neck control to sit upright, use the child seat to chauffeur your tot to and from preschool or daycare. Don’t forget to stash everything you need in the spacious underseat basket with its own built-in pocket.

High on city style
No matter your personal style, Bugaboo has you covered. The Bee 5 is fully customizable from canopy cover to seat fabric choice. Choose from a modern black or sleek aluminum chassis. Then pair it with the blue mélange, grey mélange, black or steel blue fabric for a look that’s impeccably clean and chic. The Bee 5 has the bassinet option (for an extra cost), which we love since you can start using the Bee 5 the minute you get home from the hospital.

Prefer to use an infant car seat? Simply purchase adapters and pair them with any compatible car seat or place your tot in the provided seat with sun canopy. It’s bound to become a quintessential part of any city kid’s street style.

Want to learn more? To see the Bugaboo Bee 5 in action and learn about its recommended use, visit bugaboo.com. Available at bugaboo.com starting at $699.

Since its opening to the public in 2003, Governors Island has become a favorite summer getaway from the city for many families. The historic island hosts art installations, music and dance events, and even provides a field of hammocks for some downtime. The island now offers yet another reason to hop a ferry: The Hills, a brand new 10-acre park that features art, stunning harbor views and — most importantly — some seriously super slides.

Hello to The Hills!

Designed by the Dutch landscape architecture firm West 8 and almost 10 years in the making, The Hills are built on a foundation of the demolished remains of old Governors Island buildings and parking spots. The heights of the slopes range from 25 feet to a towering 70, and each has its own charm.

Grassy Hill is a 25 foot high grassy slope where families can take a stroll or relax on the grass. This hill is perfect if you have younger kids, who can’t quite make the climb up any of the other hills.

photo: Timothy Schenck

Discovery Hill rises up higher, at 40 feet tall. The wood shavings here make for soft padding underfoot, but they do tend to get into sandals. Wear sneakers for this one! The climb is fairly steep, and a small fence looks to be more to keep people out of the newly-planted brush than for safety, so hold extra adventurous tykes close. This hill is home to “Cabin”, a permanent art installation by Turner Prize-winning British artist Rachel Whiteread, and provides some great views at the summit.

photo: Timothy Schenck

The tallest of the four hills, Outlook Hill, reaches 70 feet at its peak. There are two paths up the hill: the easy route consists of a wide, paved road that winds up the hill at a fairly gentle slope (perfect for strollers). If you don’t have a stroller in tow, you can ascend the fun way: climbing up the Scramble. Large granite blocks sourced from the old island seawall form irregular steps easily traversed by nimble adults and older kids. Once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with even more incredible views of the Harbor, the Statue of Liberty, and the Manhattan, Brooklyn and Jersey City skylines. A small grassy space makes a nice place to rest for a bit, and more granite rocks are arranged in a semicircle facing the water.

A Slippery Slope
It’s Slide Hill, though, that will undoubtedly have the biggest impact on your little ones. The hill is 40 feet high, and has four incredibly long slides. The tallest of these reaches an intense 57 feet in length, making it the longest slide in New York City – that’s a height of three stories up! The other three slides are about half the length, with one being wide enough to fit two. All the slides are super fast, with the tallest definitely reserved for the more daring of the kids, including, it seems, their parents. Even though a nearby sign points out that the slides are intended for use by kids 5 – 14, adults have just as much fun sliding down as their kids.

photo: Yuliya Geikhman

When your kid’s turn comes, be ready to catch any flying children, as these slides tend to launch you right off the end when you reach the bottom. Don’t worry, though: the soft ground at the base is ready to break any fall with minimal consequences. To reach the top of the slides, square wooden columns are arranged in a way that allows natural climbing. More of the island’s seawall blocks surround the slides. The slides are a load of fun, but keep a close eye on the kids as there are no safety measures in place. On sunny days, make sure everyone’s wearing long pants – the reflective surface of the slides burns when it gets hot.

Hello, Governor!
To cool down after some fun on the slides, Governors Island has teamed up with ice cream makers Blue Marble and The Good Batch to create a signature ice cream for the island. Dubbed “The Governor,” the ice cream combines vanilla ice cream and vanilla cake crumble, a caramel sauce, and brown sugar Grape-Nut clusters meant to symbolize the debris used as the Hills’ foundation.

Governor’s Island is only open until September 25th, so pay it a visit this year before the last ferry departs!

When the natives are restless and jumping off the couches like a superhero in flight, it’s time to visit a trampoline park and save your furniture from doom. Indoor jump parks are perfect to get the wiggles out (and hey, jumping is also a good workout for you!). Unlike outdoor trampolines, the trampoline centers feature specially designed frames and springs covered by thick safety padding and considered much safer. Read on to find out three great places to jump in.

Get Air Poway
What makes Get Air Poway unique is a gated “Small Air” area with trampoline and foam pit which is totally separate from the main jump area. Here, kids under 46-inches have the freedom to safely jump without any parent’s worry of their kiddo colliding midair with a much taller jumper or adult. There are super, comfy couches that outline one side of the Small Air Area, where parents can sit back and relax while watching their little one bounce and play. The Small Air area is located on the same floor as the main court, which makes it easier to keep track of older kids playing in the dodgeball court or main court.

Insider’s Tip: There are cubby holes to store shoes. Since there are no lockers, be sure to leave valuables at home.

Sky High Sports
You’ll find three different areas at Sky High Sports located in Miramar, including one main trampoline area where you can literally bounce off the wall. Another area is dedicated for dodgeball. Kids love the foam pit area where they can either swing from a rope or trampoline bounce into a sea of soft foam blocks. The lower level includes the Kids Court for little jumpers ages 8 and under. Luckily for parents, there are lots of benches around the trampoline perimeters so you can chat with friends while the kiddos jump to their hearts’ content. And if anyone needs a break from jumping, head into the arcade.

Insider’s Tip: “Munchkin Mondays” admission for kids 6 and younger is $8 for 2 hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also, on the first Tuesday of every month from 2 to 5 p.m., Sky High welcomes kids and young adults with special needs and their families and friends so they can enjoy bouncing without the loud music and other distractions.

Which San Diego trampoline park is your favorite and why?

— Christina Q. Cross and Leah R. Singer

Having a long list of parks in your arsenal is a parenting must, especially during the long summer months. That’s why we’re super excited about Bothell’s newest (and coolest!) park. With a large playground, sand and water habitat, numerous paths and play spaces in the woods and a cool lookout tower, a visit to Miner’s Corner County Park may just jump to the top of your battle plans, er, list.

Slide, Swing and Spin
A first look at this awesome playground will have everyone in your crew excited to play—even mom and dad! There’s a variety of slides, some thrilling enough for bigger kids and some more suited for the Littles. There are two climbing walls, a lookout tower, and a modern merry-go-round for tots who love to get dizzy. Upon closer inspection, every nook and cranny is jam-packed with things to spin, climb, swing, and explore. Bells to ring and drums to play will inspire little musicians, and maybe make your nice pots and pans seem a little less endearing. You will also find the always-popular steering wheels and telescopes placed throughout the playground. And an added bonus: The park is covered with cushy rubber padding, keeping those awful woodchips to a minimum and the entire park is uniquely wheelchair accessible, including the 10-foot tall lookout tower.

Sandcastles and Dinosaurs
If your little tykes love to get their hands (and feet) dirty, grab your buckets and shovels and hit the cool sandbox. In addition to plenty of sandy space to play, your amateur archeologist can look for fossils. That’s right! A dinosaur fossil is just waiting to be uncovered! (Helpful Hint: The fossil is located in the stream by the Sand Trap). There’s also plenty of room to build the perfect sandcastle, and a couple of cranes to make kids feel like big time construction workers.

Getting Back to Nature
Miner’s Corner has embraced the surrounding wooded areas and streams, encouraging kids (and even adults!) to be creative with nature. Kids will feel like they’re deep in the forest with trails winding in and out of tall trees, logs to climb over, and bugs to discover. All the while, you won’t have to worry about potential lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) or other dangers lurking along the trail, as little explorers are visible from the playground.

Water Exploration
Like anything else with the potential to get wet and dirty, the water habitat is an enticing place for tots to play. It’s naturally changing ecosystem gives new opportunities to learn and explore, not to mention splash and soak mom or dad with a bucket from the sandbox. The water garden is up to a foot deep, potentially more depending on recent rainfall, so make sure to keep a close eye on smaller explorers, especially if they’re tempted to lean a little too far over the edge.

For Aspiring Athletes
If you have a budding Lebron James, the Sports Court has a full size high school basketball court perfect for a pick-up game or round of HORSE. Hoops not your thing? There are areas for an intense round of foursquare or even hopscotch. The spacious Sports Lawn is so brand spanking new that the grass still needs a bit more time to grow before it can open up to little feet. But when it does, it will be the perfect place for soccer, football, ultimate Frisbee, or even a family picnic.

Good to Know
1) Miner’s Corner is part of Snohomish County’s “Pack It In, Pack It Out” initiative, meaning there are no garbage cans in the park. Be prepared to take any empty snack bags or juice boxes home with you to throw away. The bathrooms are the exception, there are cans to toss your paper towels and stinky diapers.

2) Need a place for your summer gathering or next birthday bash? The large Picnic Shelter can be reserved, and is already complete with electricity and picnic tables, and can fit up to 50 guests.

3) If you think your little waterbug may get too excited about the water habitat, you may want to throw an extra shirt in your bag. Actually on second thought, throw in some extra pants and socks too!
