Only got a handful of minutes to squeeze a workout into your day? We get it. Between caregiving, working, community commitments, endless extracurriculars, and other obligations, it feels like there’s little if any time in the day to commit to exercise. But you don’t need a huge chunk of time to get your body moving and your heart rate elevated. This collection of 7-minute workouts can all be done in between house chores, work emails, or nursing sessions—plus, they’re all on YouTube. So if you’re getting back into the swing of at-home fitness or looking to mix things up from your standard routine, check out these 8 quick workouts that are even faster than an episode of Bluey.

7 Minutes to Strong Abs & Core Workout

What it is: This is a no-breaks basic mat workout that requires very little equipment. Opt for a 2- to 10-pound dumbbell or simply use your body weight as mom and fitness pro Larissa “Larie” Midkiff leads you through seated moves like modified crunches, bicycles, torso twists, and leg extensions.
Why you’ll love it: Larie is super upbeat and highly motivating, provides modifications to challenge yourself even more, and offers tips for avoiding any back pain. You may not break a sweat during this 7-minute routine but you will feel the burn. And with the entire set being seated you might even be able to do this one with your little ones running around you.

Quick and Sweaty HIIT Cardio 7-Minute Workout

What it is: Fitness expert Courtney Prather runs through a fast-paced, high-intensity interval training workout. This routine covers everything from abs and arms to butt and legs. Moves include burpees, crab kicks, curtsy lunges, plank walk-outs and plank jacks, v-sit crunches, and speed skaters. You’ll do 12 moves, each for 30 seconds, with 10 seconds of rest in between.
Why you’ll love it: This routine will help you activate your core and focus on your form to get the most out of your time. Courtney works to intense music with an enviably chic gym in the background and provides modifications for each move to accommodate all skill levels (no equipment required!). Here’s a chance to push yourself to your max and go all out because this workout is short, will help you break a sweat, and provides a much-needed energy boost.

7 Minute Workout | Full Body HIIT

What it is: Fitness trainer and mom of three Sarah Mailloux  (@coach_fitmomma) oozes energy as she cycles through push-ups, ab crunches, squats and wall sits, jumping jacks, planks, and more with 10-second breaks. She focuses on the moves while Tabata Songs takes over providing prompts to start and finish each exercise. You’ll need a table, chair, or high block for step-ups and dips.
Why you’ll love it: You can do this workout almost anywhere, be it at your house, office, or while traveling and staying in a hotel. Enjoy the natural landscape vistas and let Sarah and her DJ be your cheerleaders.

7-Minute Full Body Toning Workout

What it is: Meredith Shirk of Svelte Training leads you through a warm-up, workout, and flow down for a complete, full-body burn. Prepare for lots of squat punches, Superman swimmers, sit-holds, hand circles, and more, along with active recovery moves like boxer bounces.
Why you’ll love it: Meredith’s beautiful backyard oasis will leave you feeling transported. We love how she gives helpful reminders to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth, plus modifications if you want to ease into the routine.

The 7-Minute Workout 2.0

What it is: Inger Houghton, who gained a lot of social media attention while exercising during pregnancy, guides you through the well-known scientifically based sequence of movements known as “The 7-Minute Workout.” This includes jumping jacks, jumping squats, mountain climber push-ups, wall sits with alternating leg kicks, triceps dips on a chair, planks with alternating leg lifts, lunges, crunches, and more.
Why you’ll love it: If you’re a fan of the autopilot nature of Tabata Songs then you’ll dig the prompts letting you know when exercises stop and start, and what’s coming up next. The format makes the workout practically fly by so you can get on with your busy life.

7 Min Full Body HIIT Workout

What it is: Mom of two and digital creator Patricia Kraft offers a beautifully produced 7-minute workout “for new moms and busy people.” It’s full of moves like reverse lunges, squats, side kicks, shoulder presses, Supermans, lateral crunches, hip thrusts, and more, with a completion meter for each move and an upcoming move preview. She includes a gentle suggestion to repeat the video at the very end if you want to up your workout with a second round.
Why you’ll love it: There’s something really nice and almost soothing about the presentation Kraft has created. There’s absolutely no talking, just music with a great beat to keep you cycling through the moves.

The Scientific 7-Minute Workout Video

What it is: Here’s another relatively analog presentation of a simple but effective 7-minute workout. Kelli Segars of Fitness Blender moves against an all-white background without music or any bells and whistles. You’ll complete 12 exercises (including jumping jacks, wall sits, push-ups, crunches, squats, planks, high knees, and more) for 30 seconds each with 10-second active breaks in between.
Why you’ll love it: Kelli will inspire you to push yourself through every move to really make the time count—and all you need is a chair.

Lazy Girl Full Body Workout – 7 min.

What it is: Vicky Justiz is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer who runs through a series of planks, leg lifts, leg raises, Supermans, fire hydrants, arm circles, calf raises, bouncing lunges, squats, and more.
Why you’ll love it: Vicky offers a no-frills exercise routine that’s apartment-friendly and free of jumping or anything that makes too much noise—perfect if you’ve got a sleeping baby. This full-body workout will wake you up without getting super sweaty.

Talk about a plot twist. Just a couple of weeks after the season finale of The Kardashians gave fans a glimpse of the heartbreaking split between Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson, it has been confirmed they’re expecting a baby together via surrogate.

The former couple already share daughter True, who’s now set to become a big sister. A representative for Kardashian told PEOPLE, “Khloé is incredibly grateful to the extraordinary surrogate for such a beautiful blessing.” The rep added that the baby was conceived in November.

The timeline is a bit messy for than on-again, off-again couple. Just a month after their surrogate baby was apparently conceived, news broke that Tristan had fathered a child during an affair with his personal trainer. That baby born was born in December. Though he initially denied paternity, Tristan admitted the affair and publicly apologized to Kardashian in January of this year.

A source told PEOPLE that Khloe and Tristan are now strictly co-parents, so it doesn’t look like their couple status will be affected by the birth of their second child. Khloe has spoken openly for years about wanting to give True a sibling. In a March 2021 interview, Kardashian then revealed that she’d already tried IVF three times by that point––all unsuccessful.

Fans also saw her fertility struggles documented on the previous version of their reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. In the show’s final season, she shared that she’d been told she would likely miscarry if she ever became pregnant again.

Sister Kim Kardashian, who had the youngest two of her four children with the help of a surrogate, praised the idea of taking that option in an on-camera chat with Khloe. “If you can do it, it’s such an amazing experience,” Kim said. “But you’ll see, the love that you’ll have for your kids is exactly the same. There’s no difference, except that there was someone else that was the carrier.”

Given that the baby was conceived in November, he or she could be arriving any day now. Despite their rocky relationship, it’s clear that all those fertility struggles mean this baby was very much wanted, no matter where Khloe and Tristan stand now.

Skateboarding is undeniably cool. Kids know this. You know this. If your adventurer is chomping at the bit to grind on some rails, visit one of these kid-friendly skate parks—all with something a little different to offer. Some have an area set aside for beginners so your soon-to-be shredders can learn and roll at their own pace. (P.S. We’re also sharing the best spots to take lessons.) If boarding isn’t their thing, some also allow bikes and rollerblades. Grab your helmet and protective gear and set out for a day of fun.

Where to Skateboard Outdoors

Logan Boulevard Skate Park

Logan Boulevard Skate Park, located under the Kennedy expressway in Logan Square, is somewhat sheltered for weather and every bit as cool and gritty as it sounds. All wheels are allowed, including BMX bikes, at this well-lit skater’s haven. The cool aspect of this park is the City of Chicago and the Chicago Park District commissioned original art to decorate the skate park—sculptures and art made from recycled materials and chrome. Also, Haas Park is nearby, which features a playground, fitness center and spray pool.

Grant Skate Park

Don't let the huge size of Grant Skate Park and scope intimidate you. This three-acre park located at the southern end of Grand Park includes more than a dozen rails, ramps and stairs as well as straight stretches of concrete. BMX bikes and skates are also welcome. Parents can hang out in one of the viewing areas to keep an eye on their kids and enjoy the skyline views.

Indian Boundary Skate Park

Indian Boundary Skate Park is part of a larger 76-acre sports facility in Bolingbrook. This outdoor concrete skate park features half and quarter pipes, pyramids and lots of rails for grinding. The best part: beginner skateboarders can learn the ropes in a designated practice area with a small box, complete with rails and training platforms.

Central Park Skate Plaza

Bolingbrook's 2nd skate Park, Central Park Skate Plaza is significantly larger and includes ramps, ledges, banks, rails, staircases, steps, skate benches, a platform and skate boxes. It was designed to mimic an urban plaza and offers spectacular views of the popular Central Park. Bikes, boarders and bladers are all welcome.

Community Park West and Swenson Park

Glenview has two fun outdoor skate parks designed for skateboarders and inline skaters only. While both Community Park West and Swenson Park are good for all levels, Swenson park is ideal for beginners. At 7,000 sq. ft., it’s smaller and a bit easier for little kids to navigate and practice tricks. Swenson also has an in-line hockey rink. Parents can visit the nearby playground for younger siblings. Also, a big upside is the park is designed with a skatelite surface—a durable paper-composite material—instead of concrete, which makes falls a little less painful.

Frontier & Centennial Park

The Naperville Park District has 2 skate parks located at Frontier Sports Complex and Centennial Park. Frontier was renovated in 2021 and both contain several skating elements including half-pipes, quarter-pipes, boxes, rails and more. Centennial is located along the DuPage River, next to the outdoor community pool and a large park. Non-motorized skateboards, in-line skates and scooters are welcome.

Audubon Skatepark

Elk Grove Village offers both an indoor and outdoor skate option at Audobon Skatepark. It's a great place for all levels to practice tricks, ride ramps and rails and grind ledges. Be warned, the indoor park is not heated so they close if the temps drop below 10 degrees (or at staff discretion).

Wilson Skate Park

Near Montrose Beach, Wilson Skate Park is well lit and fairly small, giving your skater a chance to get their bearings without a crowd or ton of distractions. This oasis is known for its smooth transitions, large pools, ramps and grind boxes. Plus, parking is free. You’ll see a bunch of families and kids here on weekends along with some of Chicago’s famed female quad skaters.

Skate Park at Olympic Park

Schaumburg Park District's Skate Park at Olympic Park was designed to mimic elements of parking lots, street curbs and other skater-enticing areas you'd find in a cityscape. Skaters will also find staircases, benches, walls of various heights and a large concrete bowl.

Ryann Buss Zone Skate Park

Located at Knox Park in McKenry, Ryan Buss Zone Skate Park offers a variety of ramps and rails that will challenge even the most experienced skater. Helmets are required at this skate park.

Where to Skateboard Inside

Asylum Skate Park

If it’s raining outside or you just want a different experience, check out the indoor Asylum Skate Park and skate shop in Lake Bluff. BMX, inline, skateboards and scooters are welcome here. If your kids are completely new to skateboarding and need to learn the basics, Asylum offers camps and lessons that will teach them how to start, stop, drop-in, olly, ride ramps, balance and do basic tricks.

Little Ripper Skateboarding

Hit the Trails! Best Hikes with Kids No Matter the Season

100+ Indoor Activities to Do with the Kids

When you enter the gates of the Grand Velas Riviera Maya, it’s immediately apparent that it’s a special place. Imagine a long drive surrounded by the Yucatan jungle and guests running along the trail, riding bikes or heading for the clear water of the Caribbean Sea. Whether you want a family trip you’ll never forget (wait until you hear about the room perks!), or if you’re considering an epic adults-only getaway (the spa alone is worth booking a room), we’ve got six reasons why this luxe resort should be on the top of your list when considering your next vacation.

1. The Location

Gabby Cullen

Located about 25 minutes away from the Cancun airport and five minutes away from downtown Playa del Carmen, with only 30% of the 206 acres developed, the Grand Velas gives off a remote vibe that feels far away from everyday life. The heart of the resort is nestled against the clear waters of the Caribbean, so you'll get the beachside getaway of your dreams.

2. The Beach

Courtesy Grand Velas Riviera Maya

The white sand beach is a short walk away from two of the three properties at the Grand Velas. It is a breathtaking sight, and the waves are fairly calm, which makes this beach ideal for families with small children. The cabanas are plentiful, the beachside service is prompt; you won’t have to wait for that fruity drink or fresh ceviche (be sure to order the tacos too!) that’s served beachside. If you stay in the Grand Class, you'll have an oceanfront view; if you stay in the Ambassador, you'll enjoy views of both the infinity pool and the ocean.

3. The Attention to Detail

Gabby Cullen

The Grand Velas has all the things you love about a resort and things you didn’t know you desired on vacation. From the turndown service and the Molton Brown products provided for your exclusive use to the attentive 24-hour concierge and luxury surroundings, this family-owned boutique hotel company doesn’t miss a beat. For those who love pampering, a new perk is the DIY face scrub provided by Se Spa and delivered to your hotel room. The minibar comes stocked with all kinds of goodies, and if you have kids in tow, you can request age-appropriate snacks, like chocolate milk, be stocked instead of adult items. The service is some of the best we've experienced. Whether you are sitting poolside, at one of the eight dining locations or in the spa area, you'll have someone taking your order within minutes.

4. The Hotel Suites

Courtesy Grand Velas Riviera Maya

There are 539 suites on the property, and 75 of them are connecting suites, which is ideal for families Almost everything parents with small kids need is available at the Grand Velas. Upon request, kids will be welcomed with a tent, minibar snacks and tiny bathrobes. Essentials like a high chair, strollers, a baby bathtub, crib and a diaper genie are also available, which means you don't have to bring that gear from home. As an added amenity, many of the suites have private plunge pools.

Each experience is different. If you decide to stay in Zen, the surrounding jungle feels secluded, but the beach is a short shuttle drive away. The Ambassador is very kid-friendly; it has the pool closest to Azul, the buffet restaurant perfect for when kids need a break from the pool and the beach, and the Grand Class has the wow-worthy oceanfront views perfect for watching the sunrise or sunset (think adults-only getaway!).

5. The Food

Courtesy Grand Velas Riviera Maya

You may come to the Grand Velas for the food alone. There are eight restaurants in total, and five of them offer an upscale culinary journey through Mexico and Europe and Asia.

Azul is a buffet-style restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with snacks in-between time. They’ve got a wide variety of menu options for every palate, including hamburgers and sushi. The open-air terrace has beachfront views, and the indoor space has air conditioning for when you want to take a break from the sun. There are other restaurants good for breakfast and lunch, like Chaká (also open for dinner) and Bistro.

Frida is a locally-inspired AAA Four-Diamond restaurant. One thing you must order is the tuna tartar (or three). The black bean soup is the right blend of spices, and kids will enjoy the grilled chicken with rice. If you feel like having a specialty drink, their tequila mixed drinks are your best bet. The decor is vibrant and eclectic in a nod to the iconic artist, there is often live music playing, and the ocean views don’t disappoint.

Piaf is a French-inspired dining experience for guests ages 16 & up. The wine list is expansive, and you might never have escargot as exceptional as the ones served here. The lobster bisque is creamy and full of flavor, and the lamb is a popular entree for good reason.

Cocina de Autor is a AAA Five-Diamond Award honoree—the first restaurant in an all-inclusive resort to be given the title. Celebrity chefs Bruno Oteiza and Mikel Alonso designed this avant-garde experience, which offers multi-course small plates prepared in ways that visually wow guests. This is an adults-only restaurant, so make childcare plans ahead of time.

Lucca is where you'll find Mediterranean-inspired cuisine like pizza, pasta and carpaccio, and Sen Lina is where you'll find pad Thai, teriyaki chicken, curry dishes and more.

Open from 11 am-11 pm, younger kids can come in to hang with their siblings until 7 pm, and after that, it’s teens only! There are Playstation pods, air hockey, foosball, pool tables and a lounge/club that sets the scene for chill time. Says owner, Alexis: “While getting an indoor massage at this time cannot be risk-free, we're doing everything we can to make it as safe as possible.” This includes limiting the number of people in their space - the desk is almost entirely working remotely - and all sessions are staggered by at least 15 minutes. “Both clients and LMTs are wearing masks the entire time in our space.” The small team is constantly cleaning the air with HEPA filters and dual direction fans and surfaces are disinfected thoroughly between each client. Adds Alexis: “Finally, we are making an effort to communicate with clients both before and after their sessions over email or on the phone since talking (even while wearing a mask) makes the situation risky.”

What New NYC Moms Need To Know

28 Things You Have to Do in NYC Before Baby Turns One

The Best Facebook Groups for NYC Parents

Shortly after an emergency C-section, I was informed that my newborn son had Down Syndrome.

His diagnosis affected me in many ways. I was shocked. I felt devastated. I was terrified. I felt betrayed by my body, dirty and damaged for not nurturing a healthy child. Feelings of inadequacy, of not being enough, surfaced. For eight months, I gave my body to my child. I did everything right and…it went so wrong. I was ashamed.

And Michael. My heart broke for my husband. He had always wanted a big family, but having one child with Down Syndrome significantly increases the likelihood of birthing another child with Down Syndrome. I felt like the dream of a large family was shattered, and it was completely my fault. Of course, he never thought this. I kept apologizing, saying over and over, “I’m so sorry.” Convinced I was a failure, I sank into my pain, retreating from family and friends.

A few days after he was born, we were given a list of the things Josh would never be able to do and things he would never become. The doctors explained how hard life would be for me and my family. As I listened to them talk about Josh’s limitations, I worried about my own. How would I care for a baby with a disability? What if he’s dependent on me forever? Will he have the capacity to understand or feel? Will he ever be able to speak?  The doctors encouraged us to hope for the best but expect the worst. Hearing what my husband and I heard from the doctors in the days after Josh was born could have broken us down and torn us apart.

At that moment, we had a choice. We could have given into the fear of what raising a child with Down Syndrome would be like. We could have chosen to believe the doctors and, in turn, assigned those limitations to Josh. Instead, I chose to be attuned to the beauty and potential of what he could become and, subsequently, who I would become. I chose to not let others’ expectations of Josh’s limits inform the way I thought or parented. In that moment, I chose Josh. I chose me.

It was a process, and I still had fears. I feared the future. I was terrified of raising a child with a lifetime diagnosis that I knew nothing about. I was even afraid of the judgments of others. Despite my lingering fears, I became more vulnerable, open, and fiercely inquisitive about the future.  I learned to be an advocate for Josh, and because of that, I learned to advocate for myself, powerfully.  I chose to embrace the happy reality of Josh, to enjoy the beauty of his soul and all he could offer the world. He is a person with a path and filled with ability—just like all children.

Despite the dire prognostications of doctors, we decided not to accept other people’s limitations in the form of well-meaning advice, and I became pregnant again. Though fears still arose during my daughter Miriam’s pregnancy, we welcomed a healthy baby girl into the world twelve months later. The dream of a large family was still possible. Because I was so committed to raising Josh without limitations, I taught all three of my children (Abigail, my fourth hadn’t come along yet) to refrain from labeling anyone. When my oldest, David, and daughter Miriam started to notice differences in Josh, and his differing ability to do things, I explained that everyone is different.

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. For instance, Josh is great at basketball; he’s even better than some children older than he is. While he is an ace on the basketball court, he’s not quite as masterful in other areas that may even seem quite simple. It was years before any of my children learned the words Down Syndrome because I didn’t want it to change the way they interacted. I didn’t want that label limiting Josh’s potential. That choice allowed Josh to interact with his siblings and other children in a natural, organic manner. That inclusivity nurtured his potential and pushed him beyond the inherent physical challenges of Down Syndrome.

Because of Josh, I learned to love with a vulnerability I never knew existed in me. My marriage evolved into something stronger, more tender, more intimate. I grew less fearful, stronger, and learned to welcome change, even when it showed up in ways that made me uncomfortable. I learned to focus on ability instead of labeling anything a disability.

As for Josh? We could have chosen to believe what the doctors told us, and expected less from him. Instead, we chose to be attuned to the beauty and potential of who he could become. Today, Josh doesn’t look in the mirror and see limitations. He isn’t defined by a diagnosis. He is strong, self-motivated, healthy, and happy. Josh sees me and my oldest, David, working out all the time. Like us, he loves to exercise. Josh is remarkably fit, coordinated, and plans to become a personal trainer. Josh is a living example of never accepting anyone else’s opinion or beliefs about your inherent potential.

I may have learned about Josh’s potential limitations on the day he was born, but I have a lifetime to discover his gifts.

Many struggles and uncertainties have emerged with the current situation, but one thing is certain; our need to move and stay active. Since gyms are not considered essential businesses, most, if not all gyms are closed due to COVID-19, putting a damper on many people’s fitness regimen.

Homeschooling, care-taking, and virtual playdates, on top of all other non-parenting duties, is zapping away any free time to slide in a workout and get the heart pumping. It is important for us now more than ever to not just focus on keeping our mental health healthy, but our physical health as well.

But the million-dollar question is, how? With no gyms, no in-person personal trainers, and no support, how can parents remain healthy and active during a mandatory shelter-in-place order? It’s absolutely do-able. Here are my tips and tricks on how to maintain a healthy lifest‌yle for you and your family.

Get into the Rhythm

With having the kids at home around the clock, it makes it difficult to have a little time for yourself and slide in a couple of workouts a week. For you to get active, you will need to set aside some time—my tip is to establish a workout schedule. I know for parents, like myself, time is limited, so let’s start with tips on how to make time and get moving.

You’re going to need to get organized, build a solid schedule and rely on teamwork. First, you and your partner need to lay down the framework for what will happen every day of the week—it sets the foundation for consistency. Elements to think about include work schedule, homeschooling, family activities and any miscellaneous tasks that are constant in your family’s life such as start/end times and meals/breaks throughout the day.

Second, you and your partner are going to divide and conquer. This will help you both focus on work and obligations to then shift focus on family and then yourselves. Lastly, “teamwork makes the dream work.” Before I set my schedule, I discuss it with my spouse to compare, plan, and adjust our time accordingly to then divide and conquer effectively.

Get Physical

Now let’s get moving. Physical activity can take many forms and can be done pretty much anywhere. An hour in-home workout, running around with the kids in the backyard, and even chores, such as mowing the lawn, can have you breaking a sweat.

Explore the Outdoors

Go outside! Fresh air does the body good, especially when you have been cooped up inside your home for a long period of time. There are plenty of activities you can do outside that will get your heart pumping and make for a great cardio session; running, biking, hiking, even a 30-minute walk.

But wait! Before heading outside, it’s important to keep in mind that practicing social distancing even if you’re outdoors is important to avoid getting in contact with the virus. Like yours, a lot of families are looking to get some fresh air and get active outdoors. When choosing your outdoor workout location, ensure that the area doesn’t have high numbers of people present and has enough space for social distancing if you and your family encounter others.

Try Virtual Workouts

This is a popular way to access quick workouts; all you need is the internet, space, and a little bit of time. From quick 10-minute workouts to 60-minute cardio killers, there are great resources available online that offer countless fitness videos and tips by trainers you can do right in your living room—even your kids can join in on the fun! One thing I make sure of is to look for credible workouts led by certified trainers, reputable fitness organizations such as ACE, NSCA, ACSM, TRX, Peloton, and EXOS.

Play with Fitness Apps

Fitness apps are a great tool to help you stay on track of your fitness goals. Now more than ever, it is important to have someone in your corner rooting you on to keep you motivated. The Trainiac App does just that. With virtual one-on-one coaching, custom weekly workouts, extensive comprehensive progress tracking, the Trainiac app connects you with a personal trainer that builds you a personalized workout plan based on your goals, equipment that you have on-hand and your workout time frame. This will allow you to accomplish your fitness goals in your own space, on your own time, all while keeping your focus on what matters, staying healthy for not just yourself but your family as well.

Establish Healthy Habits

Being active is only half of the commitment to staying healthy; nutritious eating is the other half. For some, being at home has a positive impact on their eating habits; less temptations, no random work snacking, no complimentary sugary drinks, and no end-of-the-day happy hours with colleagues, etc. However, a lot of people are having trouble with keeping healthy eating habits due to easy accessibility and stress

Some delicious and healthy snack combinations to take into consideration are fruits with nut butter and veggies with hummus. Just like we want to limit our processed food intake, we want kiddo snacks to be balanced with proteins and healthy fats. Skip the boxed fruit juices and stick to water or freshly squeezed juices. I’ve found that when my kids help make snacks and meals, they learn more about what they are eating and what good nutrition looks like. Next time you are preparing a fruit salad, ask them to help you prepare it.

Certainly, the pandemic has influenced our personal and family schedules but with some small adjustments, you can maintain some normalcy. You might have to use a milk jug as a dumbbell and have the kids join in on your workouts, but breaking a sweat together just might be the ticket to staying on track with your health and fitness goals during the pandemic.
