It’s true that rising prices are being felt everywhere in 2024, and Costco’s deal on roses is no exception. This year, the cost to pre-order the Valentine’s Day bunches (with guaranteed delivery) is $64.99—but it’s still an amazing offer if we do say so ourselves. You can’s get 50 long-stem roses for $64.99 anywhere else that we know of. And there’s a wide assortment: all-red bouquets, all-white bouquets, hot pink and light pink bouquets, lavender bouquets, and bouquets with shades of pink, red, and white.

Costco

Members and non-members alike can snag this preorder-only deal by placing their order from now until no later than Feb. 12 by 11 a.m. PST. But be forewarned, this is one hot deal and supplies are likely to run out before then.

Shoppers can choose delivery dates of Jan. 31- Feb. 2, Feb. 6-9, and Feb. 13. Deliveries may occur one day before or one day after the selected date (so if you want Valentine’s Day delivery choose Feb. 13). All deliveries include free shipping and handling (taxes still apply). This farm has practiced sustainable farming for well over 200 years. Choose between spruce or fir by using their nifty online map. Did you know that fir and pine trees will hold their needles the longest over a spruce tree? Trees at Maple Farm are guaranteed so if you bring home one that loses a large amount of needles, return it to the Farm before Christmas for a replacement or a certificate for the following year. All trees are discounted $10 on weekdays. It’s generally less busy too. Cut your own trees on weekends are $118 and pre-cut trees start at $118. You will be provided with twine but will need to ask them to help you tie it to your car. You can also purchase wreaths and other holiday items. This small home-run lot has more than 4,000 trees and is one of Long Island’s most westerly Christmas Tree farms. Bring your own saw and you can take home one of their many tree varieties including firs, pines and spruces. (They also sell pre-cut trees and will cut one for you with your saw.) Set on a picturesque spot on a slight hill, the farm is low frills but gets super busy. Trees are reasonably priced based on the height and species you select. Call for reservations.

Tilden Lane Farm

Tilden Lane Farm offers three types of spruce trees to cut yourself (a type good for holding the weight of lights and decorations) and two kinds of firs, which tend to last longer. Stock is extremely limited if you want to cut your own, so head there on Thanksgiving weekend for the best selection. The farm also offers fresh-cut Fraser fir trees. Hand saws are available or you can bring your own and staff can help with tree wrapping and securing to your vehicle. Trees are $80 and wreaths are $40. Don’t miss the farm-produced honey and you may be able to see some of the bees working on a warm day. Although there are no bathroom facilities on-site, you can make a lovely day of it in the nearby villages of Huntington or Northport by visiting some great restaurants and shops. They are open weekends starting Nov. 25 through Dec. 10.

With more than 1 million twinkling LED lights, Brookfield Zoo's Holiday Magic is Chicagoland's largest lights festival. Guests of all ages can play the Game of Gnome, a fun-filled scavenger hunt with 27 whimsical and enchanting gnomes located throughout the park.

What began in 1942 as a single tree, is now an international winter wonderland at Christmas Around the World & Holidays of Light. The family is going to be enchanted by the trees and displays that are decorated to represent the rich multicultural heritage of Chicago. The crown jewel will be the floor-to-dome Grand Tree with 30,000 twinkling lights, sparkly ornaments and all of the trimmings. This year, The Art of the Brick exhibit is getting in on the action with new pieces themed around the 12 Days of Christmas.

Lounge access will start your trip off on the right foot, we promise

Flying with kids is not something anyone looks forward to. There are so many things that could go wrong from blowouts to inconsolable toddlers to forgotten pacifiers and uncharged devices. As a travel editor, I’ve taken hundreds of flights with my kids, and some I would rather forget (like the flight with my can’t-sit-still-toddler when it felt like I was wrestling a 40 lb. carp for 4+ hours).

I recently flew on Alaska Airlines with my three kids and was pleasantly surprised by all the thoughtful elements the airline offers to make traveling with kids a little bit easier. Here is what I learned about flying Alaska Airlines with kids and my recommendations for making your travel experience even more comfortable for the whole family (hello, lounge access!).

What you need to know about flying with kids on Alaska Airlines:

  • Alaska Airlines guarantees that kids 13 and under will be seated with at least one accompanying adult as long as you book your reservation together (and subject to some additional terms).
  • Preboarding is offered for families traveling with little ones aged two and under. Lap infants (under the age of two) also fly free!
  • Car seats and strollers fly free, so you don’t have to worry about paying baggage fees for these items.

Meals for kids on Alaska Airlines

When your flight is long enough to offer meal service, you’ll definitely want to pre-order one of the Kid’s Choice Picnic Packs for your little travelers. Not only do they come with kid favorites like Pirate’s Booty, applesauce, and gummi bears, but you’ll get a retro-fabulous Wikki Stix Play Pack to keep them busy from takeoff to landing. I’ve known a few adults who might enjoy playing with these as well!

Additional Alaska Airlines offerings to make your journey easy

Lounge Access
Start your travel day off on the right foot by visiting an Alaska Lounge before your departure. Access to the lounge is included with certain ticket levels or you can purchase a day pass as available. I especially enjoy accessing an Alaska Lounge when traveling with my kids because they can fill up on snacks and have a quieter area of the airport to relax before boarding the plane. Be sure you look for the pancake machine as kids will get a huge kick out of it!

Elite Leave Program
There’s no denying it; having a baby can change you from a jet setter to a homebody in a flash. Alaska Airlines recognizes this and offers the Elite Leave Program to allow you to keep your Mileage Plan™ elite status for another year during your pregnancy or parental leave.

Disney California Adventure Park had our favorite Halloween ride overlays that truly transformed the park into what felt like a Halloween Adventure Park. The family-friendly Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree in Cars Land opts for a happily hair-raising soundtrack to become Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree. The nearby Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters takes guests on a wicked whirl as Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween.

What’s New for Plaza de la Familia 2023

Be sure to catch “A Musical Celebration of Coco” at the Paradise Gardens Park in Plaza de la Familia for a heartwarming celebration of family. If you’re lucky you can even get a picture with Miguel. Speaking of music, nearby at the Paradise Garden Bandstand, we loved the Mariachi Divas who performed some of our favorite traditional Mexican songs.

New Food Offerings for Halloween and Dia de los Muertos

One thing we know about Disneyland Resort is they’re going to roll out familiar favorites but they’ll also keep plenty of new and exciting offerings coming our way. This year for Halloween and that’s evidenced by all of the new merchandise and food located throughout the resort. Some of the ones that stood out were: Poison Apple Macaron, Pumpkin Cheesecake Cold Brew, Curry Royale (spiced fried cauliflower, basmati and green pea rice, and spinach with chickpeas and romanesco served with curry sauce – plant-based), Poison Apple Funnel Cake Fries, Apple Strudel Hard Float, and Candy Corn Churros. Yum!

Specially for Plaza de la Familia, Paradise Garden Grill will feature a limited-time menu that invites families to partake in a valued tradition in Mexican culture with menu highlights including chile verde chicken flautas, carnitas burrito, a plant-based chorizo quesadilla, and vanilla layer cake.

*Pro Tip: Take advantage of mobile ordering within the Disneyland Mobile App. It allows guests to pre-order and pre-pay for food at participating (counter service) restaurants throughout the resort. Skip the line and go straight to the pick up area for your order; this is especially exciting with kids.

The parks always go all out for the holiday, but this is the first time Goofy’s Kitchen at Disneyland Hotel will feature characters dressed in Halloween attire, fall decor, and themed desserts.

Exciting New Attractions Around the Resort

If you’re planning a fall visit you’re in for some exciting new additions to both parks, including the opening of Tiana’s Palace in New Orleans Square. This quick-service restaurant inspired by “The Princess and the Frog” serves some of your favorite New Orleans-inspired dishes like gumbo, cajun spiced half chicken with baked macaroni and cheese, muffuletta sandwiches, Po’boys, and shrimp and grits. *Please note this is not a character dining location but you may be lucky enough to see Tiana strolling through New Orleans Square throughout the day.

Across the way at Disney California Adventure Park, enter through the iconic San Fransokyo Gate Bridge for a new dining experience that you cannot miss.  San Fransokyo Square is inspired by the film, “Big Hero 6” and is a merger of……you guessed it, San Francisco and Tokyo. The food selections are vast and the offerings are diverse featuring selections such as Boudin sourdough bread bowls, a festive beer garden featuring Karl Strauss beers, Soba Noodle salad, street corn, margaritas (and non-alcoholic options), birria tacos, Ghirardelli desserts, and so much more.

This district also includes fun shopping options such as San Fransokyo Maker’s Market, Collectible Medallions, and Pan Pacific Pin Traders. Kid and adult fans alike will love the character meet and greet for Baymax and Hiro.

Tips for Your Disneyland Halloween Visit

Our family had an amazing time at Disneyland Resort. I must say one of the things that helped was entering the park with a plan and list of all the things we wanted to see, do and eat. That really helped us expertly navigate our way through both parks and focus on our collective “Musts.” Do yourself a favor and plan out the details of your trip so that you can maximize your time there. I don’t even know if Halloween itself will compare to our experience at Disneyland Resort!
