Anyone who lives in Dallas knows that it’s not only the norm but also highly encouraged to go big or go home. That’s why we’ve curated a list of baby names that not only make a statement but also pay homage to the history and culture of Big D. From famous TV characters to historical figures whose contributions have made the city the place it is today, scroll down to see our favorite monikers that swagger in a way that folks living in Dallas (and the surrounding metroplex) can replicate with ease.

Gabby Cullen

J.R.

As in John Ross Ewing, as in the patriarch of the iconic ‘80s show Dallas. Played by legendary actor Larry Hagman, J.R. is as synonymous with the city of Dallas as is its NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Kennedy

Dallas is forever a major part of American history—for being the place where JFK was assassinated. The Sixth Floor Museum and the grassy knoll are one of the most visited landmarks in the city.

Austin

It might be the state capital, but it’s also the last name of Lloyd G. Austin, a pastor at St. John Missionary Baptist, in the all-black community of Mosier Valley, for over 40 years. He was also an early presence in North Texas race relations during the late ‘50s, as he and his family were one of the first African-American families to buy a home in an all-white neighborhood of Fort Worth. They withstood and ultimately prevailed over direct attempts to be ousted from the community.

Dallas

If you’re going to honor Big D, why not just go with the city itself?

Emmett

Emmett Smith is known as one of the best running backs of all time, and he spent a majority of his career playing for the Dallas Cowboys. During the team’s ‘90s heyday, he won three Super Bowls with the team. He is the only running back to win a Super Bowl, an MVP of the Year award (both for the Super Bowl and the entire NFL) and an NFL rushing crown all in the same season. He also was a very popular contestant (he won!) on the third season of Dancing with the Stars in 2006.

Ross

Ross Perot garnered national attention as the businessman who ran for President as an Independent in 1992, against Bill Clinton and George Bush Sr. But, for those who live in Dallas, he’s also the billionaire philanthropist for whom the award-winning Perot Museum of Nature & Science is named.

Erykah

For Erykah Badu, the Grammy-award winning neo-soul songstress of the big hats. Born and raised in Dallas, she attended high school at renowned Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts—a magnet school for the arts. She went on to release several albums and win a multitude of awards.

George

George W. Bush served as the 43rd President of the United States. He was also the governor of Texas from 1995-2000. After eight years in the White House, he and wife Laura made Dallas their home base. Dallas is home to his presidential library, and he is a big supporter of local university Southern Methodist University.

Fenix

Popular restaurant chain El Fenix started in Dallas in 1918 and is the country’s oldest Mexican restaurant chain. Some also claim El Fenix is the birthplace of Tex-Mex cuisine.

Bonnie and Clyde

Having fraternal twins? Name them after some of America’s most famous outlaws—Bonnie and Clyde—who called West Dallas home before they set off on the two-year spree of robberies that inspired the iconic Hollywood film.

Kessler

In honor of George Edward Kessler, a pioneer architect, urban planner and landscape architect who was hired by the city of Dallas in 1908. He was responsible for solving the city’s flooding issues and beautifying the urban areas with greenbelts. Today, the Kessler Park neighborhood is one of the most beautiful in the city, a designated historic district that includes well-maintained examples of Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival architecture.

Dirk

The Dallas Mavericks wouldn’t be the same without German phenom Dirk Nowitzki. The beloved basketball player hung up his jersey in 2019, but his legend will live on for decades.

John, Neely or Bryan

Put these names together, and you get John Neely Bryan. A farmer, tradesman and lawyer, he set up a settlement in the area that was to become the city of Dallas in 1841.

Trinity

Pay homage to the main water source and the vast urban forest that runs through the city.

Stevie

Honor one of America’s greatest musicians and Dallas native, Stevie Ray Vaughan. He began playing guitar at age seven, and he was performing around the city by age 12. He went on to record several smash-hit albums and tour with legendary performers and musicians such as Robert Plant, Eric Clapton and more. Tragically, the age of 35, after a concert in Wisconsin, his helicopter crashed, killing Vaughan and four others on board.

Disney+ announced that Keke Palmer will host and executive produce the new series Foodtastic. The unscripted build competition series has teams of contestants create whimsical, larger-than-life, Disney-inspired works of art made out of all types of food, including everything from cheese and butter to fruits and vegetables. NYC’s City Cakes founder Chef Benny Rivera and FLOUR SHOP founder Amirah Kassem will serve as judges for Foodtastic. The 11-episode series started production this week and is slated to premiere on Disney+ later this year.

Keke Palmer

In each self-contained episode, three teams of food artists transform iconic characters into extravagant masterpieces that tell a story from Disney’s legendary IP. These food sculptures will be judged purely on their design, technical skills and narrative, and not by taste. Unused food from each competition will be donated to local food banks.

Palmer is also lending her voice to the new character “Maya” in the upcoming Disney+ revival The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.

Foodtastic is produced by Endemol Shine North America. In addition to Palmer, Josh Silberman, Sarah Happel Jackson and Endemol Shine North America’s Sharon Levy, DJ Nurre and Michael Heyerman are executive producers.

Bye-bye Brenda. Fox recently announced the Beverly Hills 90210 reboot, BH90201, will not come back for a second season.

Last summer’s much-anticipated return of the ’90s fave brought original show stars Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, Jason Priestley, Shannon Doherty, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris and Brian Austin Green back to the small screen. Even though the series was Fox’s highest-rated summer debut, it looks like BH90210 is the last time we’ll see the Peach Pit gang back together—at least on TV.

In a statement made to Entertainment Tonight, Fox said, “We are so proud to have reunited in a very special summer event one of the network’s legacy series and casts with 90210 fans across the country.” The statement continued, “Profound thanks to and respect for Brian, Gabrielle, Ian, Jason, Jennie, Shannen and Tori, who, along with the entire crew and everyone at Fox and CBS Television Studios, poured their hearts and souls into this truly inventive and nostalgic revival.”

90210′s David, actor Brian Austin Green, wrote on Instagram, “What a fun trip back. Thanks to the fans.” Green added, “When Fox picked up the show it was always billed as a summer event. Thanks to Fox we did 306 episodes of 90210 (9021bro can fact check that number) if the show gets picked up somewhere else we will talk about making more but thank you to all the fans that kept the dream alive and supported us for so long.”

Hilary Duff’s Original TV Fam Will Star in Disney+’s “Lizzie McGuire” Reboot

It looks like Hilary Duff isn’t the only celeb reprising their role in the oh-so-nostalgic reboot of Lizzie McGuire. Reportedly, the show’s original family cast will all make comebacks in the new series.

The teen-turned-adult revival of the Disney fave follows McGuire (Duff) as she turns 30, works in her dream job, dates her dream guy and lives in a dream apartment in Brooklyn. While this may sound vaguely familiar to fans of Duff’s TV Land show Younger, there are some differences—starting with the cast!

So which stars will make a return? Entertainment Weekly recently reported that stars Hallie Todd (Jo, Lizzie’s mom), Robert Carradine (Sam, Lizzie’s dad) and Jake Thomas (Lizzie’s younger bro, Matt) will all reprise their roles on the new series. Likewise, Duff recently posted a pic of a cast read-through with the caption, “we are standing in what will soon be the McGuire living room. What’s up fam. We doin this.”

Along with the same cast as the original, the reboot will also feature Lizzie’s beloved animated alter-ego. While the new series is currently in production for Disney, as of now there’s no word on a debut date.

When Justin Bieber tweets people listen. That is, Popsicle people listen. Just a few short months after the celeb tweeted about the iconic discontinued duos, the makers of the icy treats responded—with a revival of the Original Double Pops!

What says summer more than breaking apart the two sticks of a Double Pop? Even though you may have fond memories of sharing a grape or cherry red with your childhood BFF, your kiddo doesn’t. But don’t worry, Popsicle recently remedied the situation. At least for now.

The Double Pop reboot is sadly a limited-time summer treat. That is, unless you join forces with the other double fans. Popsicle vowed, on Twitter, to bring the Double Pop back permanently if the company’s original announcement was retweeted at least 100,000 times before Jul. 23.

How close are we to getting a permanent Popsicle double fix? As of now, the retweet total tops 49,000, so there’s still some way to go. So if you’re a fan of the freezing treat, you only have a few days left to retweet!

It’s been 12 long years since Veronica Mars has graced the silver screen, and now we have the actress who played the rough around-the-edges amateur P.I.’s daughters to thank for the upcoming show’s revival. In a recent interview with Access, Kristen Bell shares the reason she took on the eight-part season of Veronica Mars set to debut later this month on Hulu.

Bell’s commitment to the show means time away from her kids, but she believes the time is spent creating a worthy hero. She tells Access, “You know what, now that I went back and reread the scripts and watched the show, I want my girls to have this character in their life.”

Unlike her first tour with the unlikely heroine, this time Bell is a mom which comes with sacrifices “I’m gonna miss a couple bedtimes for a couple months, because I want this character to exist in the world,” she says. “I want her to be a zeitgeist. I want girls to reference her, I want girls to feel like her.”

That being said, we thank Lincoln and Delta from the bottom of our hearts for sharing their mama with us. Veronica Mars, we can’t wait to catch up with you come July 26!

It’s time to add to the growing list of TV reboots from your childhood/tween years. According to Deadline, WarnerMedia is in talks to bring some seriously funny ’90s sitcoms back as part of the company’s soon-to-be streaming service’s new lineup.

If the rumors are true, it looks like Full House isn’t the only TGIF fave to get a revival for a new generation. Look out for other top TGIF sitcoms, such as Step by Step, Perfect Strangers and Family Matters as potential reboots.

So when will these reboots actually happen? As of now, there’s no info on when, or if, the TGIF lineup will become a new reality. Reportedly, execs from WarnerMedia are still in the consideration stage—meaning these ’90s remakes may, or may not, make a jump from an awesome idea to the real deal.

But don’t worry. If you’re all about TGIF, Hulu now owns the rights to all 800 plus episodes of Full House, Perfect Strangers, Family Matters, Step by Step and Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper.
