Where to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth in Brooklyn

1. Fferins of Brooklyn

Located on Park Slope’s Seventh Avenue, Fferins of Brooklyn packs a wide variety of goodies into a relatively small storefront. Its eclectic and far-reaching offerings include nostalgia candy (Pop Rocks, candy necklaces, Astropops, and more), British imports (Aero Bar, Cadbury Flake, Wispa Gold), and artisanal treats for sophisticated palettes. Plus: Harry Potter candy, uncommon beverages (Bob Ross Energy Drink anyone?), and bulk candy for pick and mix also line the shelves.

2. Williams Candy

This Coney Island institution has been serving up candy apples in the Big Apple for over 75 years. It’s hard to pass up a candy apple with rainbow sprinkles to eat along the boardwalk. But if apples aren’t your thing, you can also count on Williams for lollipops, fudge, and ice cream to get you through.

3. Economy Candy

Arguably the definitive NYC candy shop, the Lower East Side’s Economy Candy is an institution established in 1937. This “Nosher’s Paradise of the Lower East Side” stocks over 2,000 kinds of candy and other goodies that you’ll find packed floor-to-ceiling. Whether you’re looking for the newest treat on the candy scene, nostalgic candy brands from decades past or an incredible selection of vintage trading cards from shows and movies like Alf, E.T., and Mork & Mindy, you can find it here.

Insider Tip: If you’re overwhelmed by the jam-packed layout, try Economy Candy’s online store, where you can search candies by hue to get perfectly color-coordinated hauls.

Yes, it’s a huge store dedicated to those tart tykes, with every flavor and type for sale, as well as over-the-top creations (ice cream, waffles, etc.) at the “Sweets Bar.” Lots of SP merch is for sale as well, and you can hop in the Sour Patch NYC cab for a photo op before you leave.

You’ll find Dylan’s Candy Bar locations all over the country now, but the company, brainchild of Dylan Lauren, debuted in NYC in 2001. The NYC store is located in Hudson Yards and features the brand’s stylish and wildly colorful, candy-centric aesthetic. All the candy bases are covered here: bulk, chocolate, lollipops, gummies, sours, nostalgia, and more, but Dylan’s is also a good spot to hit for candy gifts with a little extra, such as chic treat-filled “tackle boxes”, special Valentine’s collections and pops, and over-the-top candy towers, candy “cakes,” and even a chocolate “bash cake” filled with confections. They can also whip up a DIY Candy Buffet for your next party.

The drink is back for it’s 19th season

PSL season is here! Starbucks has announced that your fave pumpkin spice goodies are officially back in cafes starting Tues. Aug. 30.

Strap on those boots and grab a scarf on your way out the door to grab your first Pumpkin Spice Latte with its signature pumpkin, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. Ok fine, yes, it’s still in the 90’s but we can dream.

Also returning for another year is the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, plus the Apple Crisp Macchiato. This year, the drink is made with oatmilk and Starbucks Blonde Espresso as the standard recipe, making it Starbucks’ first fall nondairy beverage.

Starbucks

Starbucks fall food menu items are also making a comeback. Be sure to grab a Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin, Pumpkin Scone or the Pumpkin Loaf (which is actually available all year long) and a sweet Owl Cake Pop.

If you’re picking up a pound of coffee, you’ll see new designs adorning each bag for the first time in 10 years. Each one tells the story about how that particular blend is made through vibrant colors and beautiful artistry.

Starbucks

Now for the good stuff: the MERCH. The fall season is also bringing a whole new lineup of water bottles, cold cups and hot cups with a festive feel.

Starbucks

Keep your eyes peeled as the limited edition cups that include a new orange Bling cup, periwinkle (it’s so on-trend this year) Kaleidescope cold cup, textured Rainforest water bottle, an ocean gradient mug, color changing cups and a six-pack fall hot cup set.

Starbucks

You may have to visit more than one location to find the cup of your choosing, as each cafe carries its own selection from the fall merchandise line. Don’t wait long, every year this limited edition collection sells out.

The company that makes the plants for Trader Joe’s has confirmed they will be returning for 2022

Run, don’t walk to your closest Trader Joe’s––yoga skeletons have returned! The spooky yogis have been a hit for several years now, selling out whenever they were in stock and this year is bound to be the same.

LiveTrends Design Group is the creator of the cult-classic design that involves three poses with an air plant on top and has shared that they are returning exclusively to Trader Joe’s this year. Even though Halloween is still quite some time away, you’ll want to pick up the trio stat.

Last year, each plant retailed for $6.99 so we’re assuming the price would be similar (though perfectly possible it would be more given how expensive everything is right now). You can find them in the garden section or perhaps with other seasonal goodies.

The yoga skeletons come with air plants as hair and in the lotus, lotus with hands to heart and lotus with hands above head poses. We didn’t know skeletons could be cute but we stand corrected!

Since it’s still August, it may take time for the planters to roll out to every Trader Joe’s store. Plus, let’s be honest, not everyone lives within driving distance to one of the famed neighborhood markets.

If that’s the case, there are other retailers that do their best to mimic the design. We found a five-pack of two-inch yogis from Amazon for $29 that are arranged in the camel pose, pigeon pose, easy pose, twist pose, and king pigeon pose. While they don’t have the air plant element, they are pretty spooktacular.

If you prefer the darker side of Halloween, Joann sells a black skeleton that sits almost five inches high in the lotus pose for just $12. Since the Halloween season hasn’t even technically started, we are just getting started with all the creepy and crawly decor. Boo!

Forget about teeny tiny conversation hearts. Treat your sweetie to a full-sized sweet this Valentine’s Day with Oreo’s heart-shaped cookie dunking set.

The set, which comes in a completely cute heart box, debuted back in 2018. The seasonal kit repeatedly sells out but we’ve already found it in two spots.

This Valentine’s Day goody box is the perfect present to share. Each set comes with two matching mugs, two pairs of dunking tongs (because you can’t hold hands with messy, milk-covered fingers), a heart-shaped cookie cage and a six-pack of Oreo cookies.

This limited-time Oreo dunking set is available for $25 at Frankford Candy or $31 on Amazon.

At just $1.99 each, the Trader Joe’s Hot Cocoa Snowman is a holiday steal. The only trick is managing to find one on store shelves. Fans on social media have reported that many Trader Joe’s locations keep selling out.

To manage the mania this season, many Trader Joe’s are limited how many each customer can buy at once to five. While that sounds initially disappointing that you won’t be able to gift one to every single person in the fam, the limit ensures that everyone can enjoy this chocolatey goodness during the season.

If you want one of these adorable snowmen for yourself, make sure you get to your local TJ’s before they’re gone.
