Like the city we hail from, Chicagoans have grit, and a play-hard, work-hard attitude. We know ketchup has zero business on a hot dog, distance is always measured in minutes, our favorite football teams are da Bears and anyone who crushes the Packers, and we have deep-rooted, generational Cubs or White Sox allegiances. (Go Cubbies!) Smalltalk centers around weather, as we stubbornly grind our way through all four seasons, sometimes in the same day. We’re a proud people. So, it’s a logical leap to stamp our kid with a distinctly Chicago name derived from our streets, athletes, politicians, and landmarks.

Adler Planetarium

Addison

Many a wild time has been had on Addison Street as it's home to the popular Cubby Bear which sits across the street from the home of the Cubs, Wrigley Field, also on Addison Street. With no apparent connection to Chicago, it's a mystery as to why it was named after the brilliant British physician Thomas Addison, who discovered Addison's Disease.

Adler

Elgin native, Max Adler, was a concert violinist who gave up music to become VP of Sears Roebuck & Co. after marrying into the family that controlled the powerhouse company. After his retirement in 1928, he became a philanthropist who was key to the creation of the first planetarium in the Western Hemisphere, Adler Planetarium.

Al

Throwing a nod to our gangsta roots, how about a lil tot running around named Al, for the infamous, needs-no-intro Al Capone?

Anderson

Shout out to the northside's popular Andersonville, which hosts a massive shindig in honor of their Swedish immigrant roots, the annual Midsommarfest.

Chicago Bulls

Barack

No matter political alliances, you gotta admit, the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, is a guy you'd like to grab a beer, play b-ball and swap stories with. Not only was he the first African-American President in US history, he was also previously an Illinois State Senator who laid roots in the Hyde Park neighborhood.

Benny

Chicago Bulls mascot "Benny" the Bull is one of the longest-tenured and most recognized mascots in sports history, getting his name from Ben Bentley, the Bull's first Public Relations Manager and Stadium Announcer.

Betty

Guys, we get to stake a claim on one of the most universally well-liked celebrities of all time, Betty White. It's a small claim, she moved from her Oak Park home when she was just over a year old, but we'll take it. She, in many ways, paved the way for women in entertainment and had a love story with Allen Ludden that's worthy of fairytales.

Briggs

Lance Briggs played his entire 12-year career as a Chicago Bear linebacker, which is great and all, but mostly Briggs would be an adorable hipster baby name. Just picture baby Briggs in his flannel buttondown, skinny jeans, busted-up Chucks, messy-hair-don't-care style, and oversized glasses for his 20/20 vision.

Burnham

Daniel Hudson Burnham — use any one of those names for baby — was responsible for many of our skyscrapers and was the Director of Works for the World's Columbia Exposition, a.ka. The White City. He is credited for the essence-capturing quote, "Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men's blood and probably will not themselves be realized."

Chance the Rapper at Great Wolf Lodge Gurnee

Caray

You aren't allowed to call yourself a Chicagoan if you don't know the name Harry Caray. This absolute legend, in his signature thick wide-rimmed glasses, was a sports announcer who spent 11 years with the White Sox and the last 16 years of his career with the Cubs, famously leading fans in a spirited rendition of Take Me Out to the Ball Game during the 7th-inning stretch.

Catherine

The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 destroyed over 17,000 buildings and 2,000 square feet and many locals like to hold on to the likely, utterly tall tale that it was caused by Catherine O'Leary's cow knocking over a lantern in her barn.

Chance

One of our most famous Chicagoans, Chance the Rapper, also happens to do a whole heck of a lot for Chicago kids with his charity SocialWorks. SocialWorks aims to empower youth through the arts, education, and civic engagement while fostering leadership, accessibility, and positivity within Chicago.

Chicago

Yep, totally a human name now, thanks to Kim and Kanye.

Clark

Not only is it the name of a highly-trafficked street that runs diagonally north-south for a solid 8 miles in Chicago, but Clark is the name of the Chicago Cubs beloved mascot. Clark Street is named for George Rogers Clark, an American War revolutionary who captured much of the Northwest Territory from the British. Cheerio, Clark!

Damen

You've likely found yourself on Damen Ave. one time or another. But how'd it come to be? It was renamed from its original Robey Street in honor of Father Arnold J. Damen, a Catholic priest who founded Holy Family Church and St. Ignatius High School and College, now known as Loyola University.

Elston

Daniel Elston was a British merchant who arrived in Chicago to make and sell soaps, candles and bricks — interesting combo, eh? He also served as an Alderman and Elston Avenue serves as an alternate route alongside the Kennedy Expressway, never straying too far from its path.

Ernie

Nicknamed Mr. Cub and Mr. Sunshine, some say former Cubs player Ernie Banks is the greatest player who ever picked up a bat and glove. He wasn't all brawn and no brains, however, as he was also the first black Ford Motor Company dealer in the United States.

Ferris

Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller may not have really been ill, but Ferris makes for a pretty sick name, after the iconic 80s movie filmed in Chicago, Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Field

Marshall Field was the founder of Marshall Field and Company, renowned for its level of quality and customer service, and provided funding for the Field Museum of Natural History and land for University of Chicago. For some nostalgic Chicagoans, Macy's will forever and always be referred to as Fields.

Crown Fountain in Millennium Park

Grant

Grant Park, a.k.a. Chicago's front yard, is home to big-time notables Millennium Park, Buckingham Fountain, Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum Campus and plays hosts to some of our most-attended fests, like Taste of Chicago, Lollapalooza, Chicago Blues Fest and Pride in the Park. It was named after the 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant, who along with former President Lincoln, led the Union Army to a victory over the Confederates in the American Civil War.

Ida

Ida B. Wells was an African-American investigative journalist, educator, and early leader in the Civil Rights Movement, having been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation during the Civil War at the age of 16. She was arguably one of the most famous black women during her time, working to combat prejudice and fight for the equality of African-American women. We are obsessed with this Chicago name for obvious reasons.

Jackson

The southside's Jackson Park, named in honor of 7th US President Andrew Jackson, was developed to host the Chicago World's Fair in 1893 and is potentially the future site of the Barack Obama Presidential Center.

Jane

Born in the Lakeview neighborhood, absolute legend, Jane Bryne became the first female elected to the office of Mayor in the US in 1979, at a time when Chicago was the 2nd largest city in the country.

John

As the first signer of the Declaration of Independence, John Hancock wasn't a Chicagoan, but the skyscraper that up until 2018 bore his name was built as the second tallest in the world on Michigan Ave. in 1968. It was featured in Poltergeist III and was home to the late great Chris Farley, who passed away in his residence on the 60th floor.

Jordan

MJ. Good ole #23, Michael Jordan. Everybody knows him, he made basketball-lovers out of everyone with his out-of-this-world skill, infectious mode of play and raw talent. Arguably the best that ever played, depending on who you ask, producing some pretty sweet gear during his career to boot.

Kingston

We all know Kingston Mines is a world-famous blues club that has hosted legends in the industry, with performances 7 nights a week that go into the wee morning hours. But, did you know it was home to the first-ever performance of the Grease musical in 1971? This fierce Chicago name is a favorite.

Lake

Besides our stunning city skyline, pretty much the most visually stunning in the world, Lake Michigan and its beaches make Chicago a rather swell special place to live. It's one of the five Great Lakes of North America and the only one that sits wholly in the United States.

Lincoln Park Zoo via Maria Chambers

Lincoln

Lincoln Park, Lincoln Park Zoo, Lincoln Memorial, Lincoln Avenue, everywhere you look a Lincoln. Near Lake and Wacker sits a marker commemorating the location where Abraham Lincoln won the nomination for the presidency at the 1860 Republican Convention. Pay a visit to the Chicago History Museum if you're interested in diving more into Lincoln's history, Chicago and beyond.

Logan

Logan Square has quickly risen to be one of the favorite neighborhoods in Chicago, with restaurants that rival West Loop favorites. Its namesake, John A. Logan was an American soldier who served in the Mexican-American War, a Union General in the American Civil War and served the state as a Senator and a Congressman. And, you owe an annual three-day weekend partially to him, as he's regarded as the most important figure in the movement to recognize Memorial Day as a national holiday. We love this Chicago name for boys, girls, and even pets.

Lou

Chicago is known for its pizza, and we all have a passionate favorite. And Lou Malnati's undoubtedly tops a whole lotta lists. Deep dish Lou's? Yes, please!

Morton Arboretum

Maggie

Maggie Daley was the wife of Chicago's longest-serving mayor, Mayor Richard M. Daley, who held the position for 22 years. Well known for dodging the spotlight, but staying highly involved, she started the successful After School Matters non-profit that provides high school teens with after-school and summer opportunities in the arts, leadership, sports and STEM fields. In her honor, Chicago also has one of the coolest urban parks in the country with both lake and city views, mini-golf, a climbing wall, skating ribbon, green space and climbing structures, Maggie Daley Park.

Macaulay

Instant holiday classic, Home Alone, starring Macauley Culkin was filmed in a Winnetka home, the Grace Episcopal Church in Oak Park and the famous airport scene was shot in Chicago O'Hare Airport.

Morton

"When it rains, it pours," Morton Salt's motto and accompanying Morton Salt Girl on their logo is one of the 10 most recognized symbols in the US. Joy Morton, the company's founder, also established Morton Arboretum, the 1,700-acre botanical garden situated in Lisle that sees hundreds of thousands of visitors and hikers a year. He's also the son of J. Sterling Morton, who founded Arbor Day.

Ogden

You can ride Ogden Avenue from the Near West Side all the way to Naperville. We wouldn't suggest it, but you could. Bonus points if you know where its name came from? Chicago's first mayor, William B. Ogden, served a one-year term beginning in 1837, was a founder of the Chicago Board of Trade, designed the first swing bridge over the Chicago River and donated the land for Rush Medical Center.

Oprah

How lucky are we that Oprah chose Chicago to host her now-iconic Oprah Winfrey show? She has amassed a beautifully positive legacy that will transcend generations, and any kid would be lucky to carry her name. But, boy, are those some big stilettos to fill. This Chicago name will definitely get you noticed.

Oscar

My bologna has a first name, O-S-C-A-R, and your kid could, too! German immigrant, Oscar Mayer made his way to Chicago and laid the groundwork for one of the most well-known names in the food industry on the near-northside. And blessed the USA with the super dope Weinermobile and the longest-running tv commercial to date that starred a 4-year-old singing about bologna.

Payton

Called the greatest football player he'd ever seen, and even greater human, by Mike Ditka, Walter Payton played all 13 of his career seasons with the Bears as a running back. His legacy includes the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year Award and the Walter Payton Award.

Rand

William Rand opened a printing shop in 1856 and two years later hired Irish Immigrant Andrew McNally to work for $9/week, focusing their efforts on printing tickets and timetables for Chicago's railroad industry. In 1868 they officially launched Rand, McNally & Co. and became the largest and most-reputable map publishers in history. They became the first major map publisher to adopt a system of numbered highways and erected many of the roadside highway signs still used today.

Randolph

Randolph Street runs through the West Loop and is home to some of Chicago's most well-known and loved restaurants, like Girl & the Goat, Little Goat Diner, Au Cheval and Bar Siena. It got its name from one of Chicago's first city planners, James Thompson, who may have named it after his home county, Randolph County, Illinois. But, your guess is as good as ours.

River

The Chicago River runs right through the city and is one of the reasons Chicago is of geographic importance, as it is a link between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River Basin, and ultimately the Gulf of Mexico. It has a place of honor on the Flag of Chicago represented by two horizontal blue stripes. It's also a feat of civil engineering, as the direction of its flow was reversed in 1900 in an attempt to protect the city's water supply.

Maria Chambers

Rizzo

Since being traded to the Cubs in 2012, Anthony Rizzo has made a big impact on Chicago. Not only is he a three-time All-Star first basemen and Hodgkin's Lymphoma survivor, through his non-profit Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, but he has also donated over $4M to Lurie's Children's Hospital.

Robey

What is now Damen Avenue, was once Robey Avenue, named after James Robey, who operated a roadhouse near Madison and present-day Damen. Don't worry though, the name is still alive, with The Robey Hotel sitting at the intersections of Damen, Milwaukee and North Avenues, serving up sick city views.

Robin

There will never be another quite like the late, great Robin Williams. His eyes twinkled with a beautiful mischievousness and his wit lightning quick. Robin attended elementary and junior high in Lake Forest before his Ford Motor Co. exec dad got transferred to Detroit. You can see a mural dedicated to Williams at Bucktown's Concord Music Hall.

Roscoe

Tis a mystery how Roscoe Village and Roscoe Street received their names, but Roscoe Village is often referred to as a village within a city because of its small-town feel and huge love the residents have for their little slice of a big city.

Rose

D. Rose is no longer a Bulls player, but this Chicago native was a prominent fixture on the team when he wore the jersey. When he called the United Center home, he was named Rookie of the Year and, at the age of 22, was the youngest player to ever win the NBA Most Valuable Player Award.

Shedd Aquarium

Sammy

Dominican American Sammy Sosa spent much of his baseball career with the Chicago Cubs, reaching his 400th run milestone faster than any other player in the National League, securing his place as one of the game's best all-time hitters.

Shedd

Sitting right next to Lake Michigan within Museum Campus, Shedd Aquarium was the first inland aquarium with a permanent saltwater fish collection and was a gift from John Graves Shedd, President and Chairman of the Board for Marshall Field & Company.

Sheridan

A drive along Sheridan Road and Lake Michigan through the northern suburbs when the leaves are boasting fall colors is extra special, add it to your Chicago bucket list if you have yet to do. Philip Henry Sheridan was a general in the Civil War who coordinated military relief efforts following the Great Chicago Fire.

Thompson

The James R. Thompson Center serves as a secondary capital for the state and was named after the 37th, and longest-running at 14 years, governor of the State of Illinois.

Walt

The pioneer of American animation who holds the record for most Academy Awards won by an individual at 22, Walt Disney, was born in the Hermosa neighborhood.

Willis

Perhaps it's different strokes for different folks, but "Wha'choo talkin' 'bout, Willis?" is EXACTLY right. To die harders, it will always be the Sears Tower, but Willis Tower is technically the official name of the 2nd tallest building in the United States.

Wrigley

This one's pretty obvi, with our Cubbies flying the 'W' at one of the most iconic ballfields in the country, Wrigley Field. Even if you don't like baseball, a game watched at Wrigley is pretty darn special.

Make sure to capture all the adventures with your little Chicagoan—and share them with your family and friends near and far—with the Tinybeans app. The secure platform puts parents in total control of who sees and interacts with photos and videos of their kids.

Are you feeling like the days are dragging and you can barely get through the morning rush without multiple cups of coffee? We get it. Luckily, there are tons of additional ways to stay awake, from simple mindfulness techniques to foods that will get you ready for the day ahead. Scroll through and get that energy up!

1. Head Outside

If the sun is shining in your neck of the woods, Vitamin D is a natural energy boost. All you have to do is play with the kids outside, walk the dog, or roll back the sunroof. As always, if you plan on being outside for an extended period, be sure to put on a fresh coat of SPF. Foods like fish, egg yolks, fortified milk, and cereals are also delicious D sources.

2. Drink (Lots of) Water

Water helps make the world—and our bodies—go round. And fatigue is a sure sign that we aren’t getting enough of it. Keep reusable bottles in your bag, at your desk, and in the car. You’ll get in the habit of hydrating throughout the day for sustained energy levels and all sorts of other body benefits (radiant skin sound good to anyone?).

3. Meditate for a Pick-Me-Up

Parenthood can feel like an endless circuit of activities, homework, appointments, and the daily surprises that keep us on our toes. Sometimes all the caffeine we drink to keep up backfires, leaving us wired and unable to focus. Step off the hamster wheel and cue up a mom-friendly meditation app rather than another cup of joe. Just 5-, 10-, or 15-minute increments of measured breathing and meditation will leave you relaxed and refreshed.

4. Diffuse Essential Oils

Essential oils have taken the wellness world by storm—and with good reason. Naturally free of chemicals, they can help with stress, mood, and yes, energy. Oil aficionados recommend peppermint and grapefruit to boost energy and nutmeg for focus.

5. Reduce Sugar

High-sugar food can cause your blood sugar to spike, which can feel good for a short time. But it’s the after-effects that leave you in a slump. Instead of heading for that piece of chocolate, try one of these low-sugar snacks to keep a more even blood sugar level throughout the day.

6. Play That Funky Music

Think of your favorite song. If it’s got a beat, you may already be tapping your foot. Music is a mood elevator, so put on tunes while you cook dinner, pause the podcasts and pump up the jams in the car for the commute, or take a spin around the living room with the kids.

7. Step Away From Screens

Be it our phones, tablets, or work computers, turning on those blue lights at night can keep us up past our bedtimes, leading to even more sleep deprivation. Ana Homayoun, author of Social Media Wellness: Helping Tweens and Teens Thrive in an Unbalanced Digital World, offers great advice specifically for moms: “Be intentional about screen use. Many times we use our smartphones and screens from morning to night (and late into the night, especially for new moms on a feeding schedule). The incremental creep of usage can actually leave us far more exhausted than we realize. Shutting down social media access and phone access for certain hours in the day can create time and space for re-energizing.”

8. Fuel Up to Fight Fatigue

When you reach for that next cup of green tea, did you know a bowl of protein-rich edamame can also pack a pick-me-up punch? Nutrition expert Joy Bauer, the author of From Junk Food To Joy Food, includes it in her list of energy-boosting foods. So sprinkle them on a lunch salad, add them to one of your favorite (and easy) pasta recipes, or save them for an afternoon energy snack. For something sweet, watermelon is in season from May to September and is a great source of B6 and citrulline, an amino acid that aids in cell division and benefits heart and immune system function.

9. Exercise

Okay, you knew this was coming. As hard as it can be to muster up the will to work out, the endorphin boost from exercising makes the muster well worth it. If you need an inspiring reset, try something new like a Hip Hop dance class. There are loads of indoor exercise programs you can do with little to no equipment.

10. Delegate a To-Do or Two

We run ourselves ragged doing it all—parenting, working, shuttling, and keeping the meals coming. While we can’t outsource the big or fulfilling responsibilities, how about daring to say “no” to the over-the-top birthday party next time around? Give yourself permission to pass on that extra something that’s overwhelming the week. Better yet, farm out your chores to your family and teach the kids some life skills!

11. Be Social

Isolation can lead to fatigue and depression, so it’s important to engage with friends and family when your busy schedule allows. Plan a mom’s night out, have another couple over for a takeout dinner, or plan a park date with another family. You’ll be laughing in no time!

12. Turn in Early

We all love the idea of crawling into bed “early,” but who else ends up binge-watching one or two hours of the show that’s been stockpiling because the kids are finally asleep? We may want to take a tip from the kids instead. While 7 p.m. zzz’s aren’t realistic—parents need some evening solitude to decompress or finally get things done uninterrupted—try really turning in an hour (or two) early one night a week. Before bed, reach for a book instead and notice how many pages you get through before those eyelids get heavy. For a tired mom, we’ll put money on about … five!

13. Sneak a Snack

Whip up a tasty snack that packs a punch of energy in every bite.

14. Self-Care is for Everyone

Make standing appointments for your manicures and get those haircuts in the calendar! You deserve a little self-care, something that probably tends to fall to the bottom of your priority list. There are lots of ways to give yourself some much-needed self-care without even leaving the house. Try out one of these beauty hacks on your next night off the clock.

15. Don’t Skip Breakfast

Yes, we’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But how many of us skip it on those busy mornings? Try out one of these make-ahead breakfasts to get you going for the day with a healthy start.

16. Just Keep Truckin’

We know how awesome you are—and that no matter how sluggish you may feel, you’re doing your best to show up and be great for your kids, your job, and your partner. You’ll catch a break soon, even if it’s just to read that book you’ve had on your nightstand for ages. Before too long the kids will be grown and you’ll have all the time to sleep in on a weekend again. And you may just find yourself missing these hectic, joyful days when you’re sleep-deprived and the kids are still young.

Need a little help with your holiday shopping for kids? From games and puzzles, to projects and one-of-a-kind gifts that kids (and their parents) adore, these are the best toy stores Los Angeles loves

Ranking the best toy store Los Angeles has to offer may come with some debate but if you’re looking for puzzles, games, crafts and more to give or just looking for some fun ways to keep little ones entertained, these favorite Los Angeles toy shops are worth your time and money. We all but guarantee these not-so-hidden gems in LA will have that one-of-a-kind, most thoughtful toy you’re looking to give. So whether you’re looking for a holiday gift, a birthday present for an upcoming birthday party, or just an excuse to celebrate your little ones—there’s a toy store nearby that will fulfill all your novelty gifting needs.

The Best Toys Stores in Los Angeles

1. Huzzah!

When it comes to toy stores, grown-ups want to have as much fun as the kids and at Huzzah! in Venice, you can. The mom in you will love the selection of alternative, non-mass market toys the store specializes in (read: no animatronic baby Yoda dolls making the same noise over and over), while the big kid in you giggles over the “grown-up toys” like a Crazy Cat Lady Action Figure. Your toy-loving tykes can explore educational toys that are actually way cooler and more entertaining than they imagined.

Don’t Miss: Toys like the new and improved Speak & Spell learning toy from the '80s or their ginormous unicorn sprinkler are great ways to keep cooped up kids both educated and active (while having fun in the process). Huzzah understands that littles and parents alike are looking for new and interesting ways to beat boredom and have certainly risen to the challenge!

Venice

2. Toy Crazy

The Brentwood Country Mart already exudes idyllic nostalgia, which makes it the perfect home for a quaint-feeling toy shop like Toy Crazy. These classic, timeless toys define inspired playtime and will remind you of your own childhood while being equally delightful for your pint-sized players. Every item for sale, from classic board games to unique outdoor toys, is meticulously hand-picked by the owner, and seasoned toy connoisseur, Melissa Moore, to ensure the most engaging, get-them-off-the-couch play experiences for your little ones (which is now more important than ever!).

Don't Miss: What's the only thing better than an awesome toy store? One that's right next to an amazing ice cream shop. Sweet Rose Creamery is right next door and is a must-stop for seasonal ice cream flavors and sundaes—may we recommend the Campfire? A sundae filled with salted caramel ice cream, a chocolate hardshell, torched marshmallows and graham cracker crumbs.

3. Miracle Mile Toys & Gifts

This neighborhood boutique toy store has all the stuff we love, along with a staff exceptionally well-versed in all the toys on hand. Here's where you can stock up on not-so-easy-to-find toys that you’ll kinda want to steal from your kids. Like the "Kid Activist" doll from the Lottie Dolls line, a 500-piece round "Women March" puzzle, or a set of hand-painted wooden "community helper" dolls made with sustainably forested wood and painted with non-toxic materials.

4. Tom's Model

More like a collectible shop than a full-on toy store, Tom's Model deserves a mention based on its cool factor alone. Known for their extensive collection of both common and rare Funko POPs (vinyl figures depicting licensed characters from your favorite franchises), this unique hobby stop also offers hard-to-find Lego kits, pop culture character backpacks, and even has a collection of battery-operated animal toys! Nestled into the heart of the DTLA toy district, Tom's Model certainly values function over form so don't expect to walk into a kid-themed play space. What they lack in store aesthetics, however, they make up for in selection and product knowledge.

Los Angeles

5. The Acorn Store

At this shop, in addition to a super friendly and helpful staff, you'll find a huge selection of high-quality natural, wood or natural fiber-based toys—it almost feels like you've stepped into a magical toy store in Switzerland but in reality, you've entered one of the best toy stores in California. In addition to dolls, dollhouses, wooden figures, books, and dress-up clothes, you'll also find arts and crafts, even puppets and yo-yos for hours of creative play.

Santa Monica

6. Treehaus

We love neighborhood spots that also give back to the community and Treehaus in Atwater Village is one of the best toy stores in California. This eclectic boutique started out as a pop-up shop in a vintage VW bus and has grown into a stylish hub with high-quality offerings. There's everything from organic baby rattles and DIY kits that let kids build to their heart's content to plush dolls that are so cute, that you'll absolutely allow your kid to bring home another to add to their collection.

Don't Miss: Moms can stock up on their fashionable line of breezy culottes that are great for feeling lovely while lounging.

7. Yolk

If you're looking for cool stuff that appeals to all ages, this Silver Lake boutique store has a little bit of fun for everyone. From distinctive gifts and quality toys to kids' clothing and creative homewares, Yolk is the place to go for the kind of unique flair not generally available from mass-market stores. Stop in to snag a one-of-a-kind gift (Bonus: they do free gift wrapping on-site) and don't be surprised if you end up leaving with one (or three) things for yourself!

Don't Miss: Their line of adorably hysterical food-themed socks is a must-have (who doesn't need avocado socks in their lives?) and their girls' bathing suits are sure to cause quite a splash.

8. Kip's Toyland

Established in 1945, LA's oldest toy store is a must-stop for both locals and tourists. Located in The Original Farmer's Market, it is full of cool and fun finds for both kids and adults. And while it's not the biggest toy store in Southern California, you’ll still find a great selection of classic and retro toys. If you've been wanting to get a Lite-Brite—this is your spot.

9. Dinosaur Farm

A unique twist on novelty toy stores in California, this Jurassic Era-inspired spot for T-Rex lovers is a must-stop and Dave, the owner, is all about helping foster that dino-love. Of course you'll find everything you need related to dinosaurs but if you're looking for something specific, and Dave doesn't have it, he'll track it down for you. Aren't a fan of those larger-than-life eating machines? There's a Pink & Purple Room, a book area, an infant area, and a science section and a game section. They take great care in stocking the store with unique, quality toys and encourage hands-on play in different parts of the store.

Maple Row Farms

This farm has practiced sustainable farming for well over 200 years. Choose between spruce or fir by using their nifty online map. After you’ve finished your turkey dinner, it’s time to find the perfect Christmas tree, Seattle families

When it comes to Thanksgiving traditions, some folks test their luck with the wishbone, some load up the car to see holiday lights in the city, and some head to a nearby Christmas tree farm to cut down a tree for the season. There are many places where Seattle families can find their annual tree at a local U-Cut Christmas tree farm. Some of our favorite area farms are totally decked for the season and offer holiday cheer that only comes once a year. Some have even invited Santa for pictures and cocoa. Get ready to make like a lumberjack. After all, these trees aren’t going to cut themselves down.

Honeytree Farm

This trip to the Christmas tree farm comes with a cup of hot cocoa adorned with a candy cane. Wander through the 11-acre field in search of your perfect U-cut tree, or choose from their pre-cut trees, if you're not quite up to the lumberjack challenge. The folks here are happy to shake your tree for free and bale it if you need them to for a small charge. Once you've found your tree and cut it down, stop by the Gift Shop for a wreath and raw honey.

Insider Tip: Santa usually visits this tree farm on the weekends, double check their Facebook page just to make sure before you tell the kids.

Good to Know: Honeytree Farm is a cyclical farm; they sell trees until they meet their quota for the year, which usually happens around the second week in December.

There are two fire pits to warm up by, a 1955 fire engine is on-site for unique photo opportunities and they operate a full espresso bar and the food court with to-go items on the weekends.

McMurtrey's Red-Wood Christmas Tree Farm

In the Christmas tree-growing business since 1975, McMurtrey’s Red-Wood Christmas Tree Farm is doing things a bit differently this year. They have moved to a reservation system for U-Cut trees which will help avoid crowding and provide extra safety for guests. Reservations can be made online. Make your U-cut dreams come true when you cut down a tree here, with saws they provide. If you and your tree need a lift back to the bailer, just hop onto the wagon and go for a ride. If you’re not in the mood for a trek through the forest to find your Noble Fir, pre-cut trees are also available, from small tabletops trees to 15' trees; you do not need to make a reservation to pick one of those up. Fido can come too as long as he is on a leash.

Good to know: McMurtrey’s Red-Wood Christmas Tree Farm sells Noble, Nordmann, Douglas and Fraser Firs. U-cut trees usually sell out quickly, but the farm brings in beautiful pre-cut trees weekly, so you're guaranteed a fresh one. The farm will sell some of them for the same price as the U-cut trees and fresh-cut Douglas firs to 7.5' are priced lower than their U-cuts. Extra tall trees are available with local delivery referrals upon request.

Crystal Creek Christmas Tree Farm

Farmer Brown's Christmas Tree Farm

Have you ever gone to a tree lot and wondered if they had any other "better" trees in the back? At Farmer Browns, you can drive through the entire 32-acre farm to find the best tree out there. You will be handed a saw upon arrival and instructions to drive until you see your perfect tree. Christmas music plays festively while you wander through the fields and once tree nirvana is obtained, a short jaunt to the cashier reveals that there’s no need to worry about breaking the bank, because all trees, with the exception of a small area behind the house (we KNEW there was a place!) are the same reasonable price. The catch? You won’t know what that is until you get there. "U-cut, u-dig, u-enjoy," they like to say. The staff will happily bail your tree and help you attach it to your car. Then you can park in their large lot and enjoy complimentary cider and hot chocolate and a bonfire for warming those chilly feet of yours.

Good to know: The farm has Douglas, Nobel, and Grand Fir trees, as well as Colorado Blue and Norway Spruces and Fraser Fir trees. All trees are hand-pruned and sheared to shape.
