Being a working mom doesn’t come with a guidebook, and if there were a secret formula for perfecting the parenting trifecta of home life, career, and kids, we’d be all over it. The good news is that there are millions of other working moms out there—you are so not alone. In honor of multi-tasking women everywhere, we’ve rounded up 13 things that each and every one of them should be reminded of on a regular basis.

1. Quantity isn’t always quality.

Even when you don’t log hours with your kids every day, the tiny moments are what really matter. Talking with them on the way to school, setting up a nightly routine that includes a twice-weekly family dinner with no exceptions, reading aloud before bed, setting aside time on the weekend just for the family—that’s when those real memories get made.

2. Pinterest is for looks.

Guess what? That class full of kids is going to love those store-bought cookies just as much as they would a from-scratch version. (They’re cookies—what’s not to love?) While you may feel like the other moms are more crafty, more creative, and more put-together, just remember what you had to do this morning to get everyone where they needed to be on time.

3. You’ll never get it all done (and that’s okay).

That pile of clean laundry sitting on the couch? Kids can just as easily find what they need by digging through it as they can if it’s folded and put away. Better yet, show your kids how to fold those clothes themselves. And speaking of chores, here’s a definitive list of which ones kids can do independently, broken down by age. You’d be amazed at what they’re capable of handling.

4. It takes a village.

There’s a reason people can’t get enough of this proverb. If you have family nearby that’s willing to help out, consider yourself lucky. If you don’t, don’t be afraid to lean on friends for help. A ride to after-school activities, a last-minute playdate, a pick-up in the morning, all of these things make a difference. Just be sure to return the favor (when you’re able) to help another parent in your circle.

5. It’s okay to delegate.

Did you know that being a mom is the equivalent of working 2.5 full-time jobs? Somehow we are not surprised. Ask your partner to do an equal share of the drop-off/pick-up/social calendar organizing/lunch-making madness that is raising kids. And, if you can afford it, opt to outsource menial tasks (e.g., grocery delivery) that can take a backseat to more pressing to-dos.

6. Your kids will be fine at daycare.

Daycare is a tough one, but we promise that moments after you leave, your kid will be bonding with their teacher over Play-Doh and Disney. Think of the positives: They’re learning, getting a ton of social interaction, and will be absolutely thrilled to see you at the end of every single day. Check out our list of other tips for making the daycare transition as easy as possible for everyone.

7. You’re setting a great example.

From your awesome work achievements to the way you collaborate on projects to how you value other people’s time and opinions, you’re modeling the behavior you want to see in your kids (in their case, on the playground, in the classroom, and at home). Make sure you share what makes you proud, and tell your kids why you need to meet deadlines or be on time for meetings. It helps them value your time more, too.

8. You’re going to miss moments, and that’s okay. There will be more.

This one can be heartbreaking. Luckily, these days, there are plenty of ways to stay updated on your kids’ lives, whether it’s through a private photo-sharing app like Tinybeans, through a school program like Class Dojo, or by having a nanny or daycare staff send you visual updates. Be sure to bring up anything you saw during those precious minutes after work!

9. You are a good mom.

Say it with us: “I am a good mom.” You are working hard and providing for your family. Your family is better because of you. In fact, a Harvard study found that kids of working moms grow up to be just as happy as kids with stay-at-home moms and that girls, in particular, benefit from having a mom who works.

10. It’s not easy, but it does get easier.

When they’re babies, it seems like they’ll never make it out of [insert stage that is taking forever]. But they do—we swear. And that first week of daycare that feels like agony? It will pass. It may not happen all at once: There will be days when you just won’t want to be apart from your kid, but as your children grow and become accustomed to a routine, it will get easier.

11. Don’t forget to fill the well.

Okay, not those words exactly. But you know what we mean. Your mornings might feel like a mad dash and your evenings a flurry, but you can’t keep giving from that seemingly bottomless well of mom without refilling once in a while. It could be as simple as taking 15 at work to run out and grab your favorite latte and taking 60 seconds to destress before you walk back in the door.

12. You look incredible today!

Maybe you envy the mom who gets to wear sweatpants all day. You know what? It’s a good bet she digs the grown-up clothes you get to wear that she never has reason to. No matter which fit you’re sporting, you have moments where you look damn good—and we’re not just saying that.

13. You don’t love your kids any less than a mom who stays at home.

And don’t listen to anyone who tries to tell you otherwise.

We know “Netflix and chill “doesn’t mean what it used to, thanks to life with littles, but when you’ve got the time to wind down after the kids are in bed, click off Disney+ and click on these adult shows on Netflix that are sure to keep you awake no matter how tired you are—at least through several episodes. From hilarious comedies to heart-pumping thrillers, here’s what we’re binge-watching on Netflix right now.

"The Brothers Sun"

Production still from The Brothers Sun, one of the best adult shows on Netflix

It's late. You're in bed. And you want a little action. But not that kind of action. Try hitting up the new series starring recently crowned Best Actress Michelle Yeoh. She plays the strong-willed mother of a family of gang members whose enemies have come a-knocking. There's a lot of choreographed fighting, fun quipping, and every shade of Yeoh on the acting spectrum.

"Carol & the End of the World"

production still of Carol & the end of the world, one of the best adult shows on Netflix

From one of the brilliant writers for the criminally underappreciated campus comedy Community comes this miniseries about a 42-year-old accounting assistant who has absolutely no idea why the impending doom destined for Eearth means her quiet little life has to change. Like Carol in the mass of hedonistic chaos around her, this animated adult dramedy is a diamond in Netflix's digital rough.

"Bridgerton"

Obsessed? Same. Now that you're done bingeing Queen Charlotte and eagerly anticipating the next installment of the period drama, why not work on a little refresh? While you wait for season 3 to hit the streamer (part 1: May 16; part 2: June 13), catch up on the first two seasons. Then get ready to learn more about Penelope Featherington and her longtime crush, world traveler Colin Bridgerton.

"Wednesday"

The Addams Family reruns you watched as a kid pale in comparison to this witty Tim Burton remake. The series stars Jenna Ortega as the brilliant and totally dark title character. Shipped off to Nevermore, a boarding school for outcasts, Wednesday finds herself in the middle of a mystery. Including nods to the original, with an updated ethos, this show is definitely worth a few hours of your time—okay, eight hours. Once you finish the first season, get ready for season 2 in April.

"Russian Doll"

A production still from Russian Doll, one of the best adult shows on Netflix

If you haven't caught on to this sci-fi/fantasy show that's absolutely bingeable, our only question is: Why not? Natasha Lyonne plays Nadia, doomed to repeat her 36th birthday over and over again until she gets it right, a la Groundhog Day, but with less humor and more mind-blowing plot twists. Sit down to two seasons; Netflix says a third is in the works now.

"Umbrella Academy"

a production still from The Umbrella Academy, one of the best adults shows on Netflix

Reuniting after their father's death, a group of estranged siblings sees their superpowers and a whole closet's worth of family secrets spill out. So far, the series has wrapped three seasons, with the upcoming fourth season said to be the final chapter. According to Ritu Arya, who plays Lila Pitts, season four will be the comic-book adaptation's best yet. So catch up now!

"Lupin"

a man walks briskly outside the Louvre in Paris, adult shows on netflix lupin

Forget the Ocean's. This French series will leave you wanting more after the first heart-pounding scene at the Louvre. A true gentleman thief, Assane Diop (Omar Sy) sets out to avenge his father who was unjustly imprisoned when Assane was a child. Taking cues from his favorite fictional criminal hero, Arsène Lupin, he steals from the rich and exposes the truth. Part three is now streaming.

"Beef"

a production still from Beef, one of the best adult shows on Netflix

Steven Yeun and Ali Wong star in this wild road-rage comedy that has more twists and turns than Mulholland Drive. They play Danny Cho, a contractor, and Amy Lau, a business owner, and their "beef" begins when the two engage in a near fender bender. The experience ends up burrowing its way into their lives in ways you would never imagine. You will just eat this one up.

"Derry Girls"

Set in 1990s Northern Ireland—Londonderry, to be exact—this hidden gem is set against a backdrop of political upheaval that's nearing its end. School friends Erin, Michelle, Clare, Orla, and James navigate their teenage years with wit and, well, not really wisdom, but maybe the wisdom of youth that's as hilarious as it gets. Creator Lisa McGee has earned lots of praise for this one.

"Virgin River"

The perfect romantic-yet-not-too cheesy drama finished up its fifth season last year, with a sixth season on its way. While you wait, you can catch up on all the plaid-patterned action and learn about what Mel and Jack are up to in the small town of Virgin River. Should you need more rom-coms while you mom-mom, check out our list of shows like Virgin River.

"Kim’s Convenience"

If you haven't caught this CBC show on Netflix yet, sit down and stream it tonight. Set in Canada, it's the story of convenient-store-owning Korean immigrants and their first-generation adult kids living in Toronto. Based on a play by Ins Choi, its subtle humor balances out the show's more serious themes, meaning you'll laugh, cry, scream, and feel all the other feels.

"Glitch"

Production still from Glitch

Guaranteed you have never heard of this chilling Aussie gem. About a group of dead people who claw their way back to life from six feet under, Glitch is a genre-blending series that will blow your mind. No, those who have risen are not zombies. And, no, they are not ghosts. But, yes, they are back for a reason. Their journeys to find out why will keep you hooked.

"The Diplomat"

Production still from The Diplomat

Politics are a dirty game. But on The Diplomat, they're also completely absurd, ridiculous, and gloriously silly. Keri Russell stars as the titular ambassador and handles every bonkers plot twist, from international crises to marital exploits with skill and grace. Bless her. Catch up on season 1 now, because the next chapter is on the way, most likely hitting the platform this year.

"Insecure"

Production still from Insecure

Don't have MAX? No biggie. Netflix now has every season of Insecure (and Girlfriends, for that matter) for your streaming pleasure. So when you're done watching Firefly Lane on repeat, treat your viewing queue to Issa Rae's hit comedy about a group of twenty-somethings navigating love, life, and friendship in Los Angeles.

"The Witcher"

Follow the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, a riveting and well-built monster hunter for hire as he journeys toward his destiny in a fantasy-based world where people are often the scariest beasts of them all. And as if spending late nights with Henry Cavill weren't reason enough to hit play on the adventure series, knowing that eye candy Liam Hemsworth is joining the cast for season 4 certainly is.

"Emily In Paris"

emily in paris woman holding a microphone with lights in the background, adult shows on netflix

An ambitious 20-something lands her dream job as a marketing exec in Paris. And the City of Love does not disappoint with three seasons of romance and adventure finding Emily on every corner. Season 4 got a bit delayed due to the 2023 writers' strikes, but worry not, word is new episodes of Emily, her friends, her lovers, and her wildly inspirational fashion choices will be out this year.

"The Crown"

Can’t get enough of the royal family? This intriguing peek into the reign and romance of Queen Elizabeth II will more than satisfy. It certainly doesn't hurt that it stars the Oscar-winning Olivia Colman for part of the saga as Her Royal Highness, either. Creator Peter Morgan has finally finished his story, with all six seasons streaming on the platform now.

"Good Girls"

YouTube

What happens when a picture-perfect, stay-at-home mom breaks bad? Good Girls. Part Weeds, part Breaking Bad, this series is a dark but fun fantasy escape that will draw you in from the first episode. In a stroke of horrible prime time decision making, the network canceled the series ahead of season five, but that doesn't mean you won't thoroughly enjoy all four seasons streaming now.

"Griselda"

Okay, yes, Ozark is a lot of fun. But odds are, you've seen Jason Bateman and Laura Linney boss up as money-laundering pros in the Ozark Mountains. So, queue up this thriller with links to the cartel instead. It stars Sofia Vergara playing against type in a queenpin role that will have you doing a double take. Drugs, money, motherhood, talk about binge-worthy. Look for it on January 25.

"Cobra Kai"

Thirty years after Karate Kid, the feud between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) is still going strong. A surprise hit series, Cobra Kai checks in on the rivals, now all grown up, and finds Johnny and Daniel raising a new class of karate masters in their own dojos. Catch up now because season six is on the burner for 2024.

"Dead to Me"

This dark and twisty mystery about a grieving widow, played by the genius Christina Applegate, and her new best friend, the wonderful Linda Cardellini, will suck you in instantly and will not spit you out until the credits roll on the shocking end. Luckily (and, well, unfortunately), there are three complete seasons to keep you entertained.

"Escaping Twin Flames"

Ripping people off is as American as apple pie. LuLaRoe did it with patterned leggings, Bernie Madoff did it with a handshake, and cryptocurrency used Tom Brady. Twin Flames Universe, the online community at the focus of this 2023 Netflix docuseries, the lure is harmonious true love. And founders Jeff and Shaleia Divine swindled millions of their prey.

"Ginny and Georgia"

a man hugs two children

In search of a fresh start, single mom Georgia moves her kids, Ginny and Austin, up north. Unfortunately, secrets from Georgia’s past come back to haunt them and threaten to make their new lives anything but perfect. As addictive as it is shocking at times, Ginny & Georgia is the gift that keeps on giving: Netflix has guaranteed that seasons 3 and 4 are on the way.

"Workin’ Moms"

workin moms season six

The last and final season of this hilariously relatable mom-com was released in early 2023. As for the binge, we hope you can make it through all seven seasons without peeing your pants, tagging along with the working moms as they balance the impossible chaos of motherhood and returning to the office. If you've already seen the entire series, check out our picks for shows like Workin' Moms.

"The Great British Baking Show"

Mouthwatering cake pops and canapes served up with some friendly competition make this series a must-watch for any home baker (or cookie-lover) looking for inspiration. If, however, you fear the yummy sponges on the screen may induce hunger pangs that send you straight to the kitchen for a snack, there's always the Emmy-nominated Selling Sunset to quell the late-night reality cravings.

These movies for toddlers offer up life lessons and lots of fun

Kids, including toddlers, love to be entertained, but when it comes to plopping them in front of the television, the parent guilt can be real. However, not all movies are created equally, so we came up with a list of the best movies for toddlers that provide valuable and simple lessons about friendship, teamwork, and kindness. The plots are straightforward, and the visuals, dialogue, and songs are all engaging enough to hold a toddler’s limited attention span. The movies on this list are family-friendly, many of them offer educational lessons, and all of them offer a chance to cuddle up with your budding cinephiles. (Curious about which films to watch when they get a bit older? We’ve got those, too.)

Finding Nemo

When clownfish Marlin’s young son Nemo gets captured, he goes on an animated adventure across the ocean to find him. Marlin gets some help from absent-minded fish Dory, meets some laid-back turtles, and escapes the clutches of hungry seagulls in this well-loved film that debuted 20 years ago.

Where it's streaming: Disney +

Why it’s great for toddlers: Toddlers can learn about ocean life in a fun and colorful way, while also picking up positive lessons on friendship and the importance of family. Parents should note that some of the predator fish may frighten very young viewers.

Blue’s Big City Adventure

Blues Clues Big City Adventure is great movie for toddlers
© Paramount Original

Canine Blue gets her first feature-film musical adventure complete with song and dance numbers. Instead of placing Blue in an animated world, as the television series does, the film finds Blue and her human companion Josh in a very real and vibrant New York City. They are heading to an audition for a Broadway show and need help from passersby and viewers when they get lost.

Where it's streaming: Paramount +

Why it’s great for toddlers: The songs are engaging, and toddlers will want to dance and sing along. With the same format as the television show, young viewers can follow the paw print clues right along with Blue and Josh, involving toddlers in the journey. Parents will also enjoy the message that dreams can come true and may find seeing previous hosts Steve and Joe a nostalgic bonus.

The Daniel Tiger Movie: Won't You Be Our Neighbor

PBS

Daniel and the whole Tiger clan welcome a new family to the neighborhood with the hopes of making them feel welcome. Daniel hopes to find a new friend. If kids like this movie, they can also watch Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood: Tiger Family Trip

Where it's streaming: Amazon Prime

Why it’s great for toddlers: Based on the characters from the PBS television series, Daniel Tiger is a positive role model who provides kids with a fun way to learn some valuable lessons surrounding friendship and kindness. He also teaches young kids basic social skills and problem-solving with simple language in terms they can understand. Daniel also speaks directly to kids.

Sing

Sing is a good movie for toddlers
© Universal Pictures

When koala Buster Moon is faced with the deterioration of a theater he runs, he comes up with an ingenious idea, a singing competition. The competitors are all animals, each with their own personality and unique voice (think a stay-at-home pig who desperately needs something for herself, a stage-shy elephant with an incredible voice, and a gorilla hoping to make his own way in the world). The film’s characters are voiced by Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, and Seth MacFarlane, among others.

Where is it streaming: Amazon Prime, Hulu (with Live TV)

Why it’s great for toddlers: Parents and kids will notice popular songs that are featured on playlists and the radio, and many toddlers may even be able to sing along with the adorable animal characters. Lessons on believing in yourself, the importance of friendly competition, and supporting others will please parents who can help younger viewers pick up on these themes throughout the film.

Toy Story

© Walt Disney Studios

A flashy new toy space ranger named Buzz threatens old-school cowboy action figure Woody, who fears the young boy whose bedroom he shares no longer wants him. This film, the first in the iconic franchise, features several toys like Mr. Potato Head, toy soldiers, and a piggy bank coming to life when the child who owns them isn’t around.

Where is it streaming: Disney +

Why it’s great for toddlers: Parents can share some of their own childhood memories through the cast of classic toy characters they may have played with growing up, including a toy tape recorder, an Etch A Sketch, a barrel of monkeys, a troll doll, and the Magic 8Ball. Toddlers will also delight in the idea of toys magically coming to life. Parents should know that some words may not be suitable for toddlers, including ‘shut up’ and ‘idiot.’ There are also some darker moments where toys get hurt or do mildly scary things to protect themselves.

Things get interesting at Mossy Bottom Farm when a space alien shows up, but she isn’t there to take over the world. Will Shaun and the gang be able to get her back to her own planet before she is captured by a nefarious organization?

Where is it streaming: Netflix

Why it’s great for toddlers: Young viewers will delight at the simplicity of the dialogue, which is just a series of expressive sounds. Parents will appreciate the lessons surrounding inclusion and friendship that they can share with their kids as they watch.

Bee Movie

Bee Movie is a good movie for toddlers
© DreamWorks Studios

Young bee Barry B. Benson, who just graduated college, wants to do more than become a part of the hive in this comedy starring Jerry Seinfeld. He befriends a human and realizes he may have a great purpose other than honey-making. Some A-list stars lend their voices to the film including Oprah Winfrey, Chris Rock, and Kathy Bates.

Where it's streaming: Netflix

Why it’s great for toddlers: This family friendly movie lets parents enjoy the comedy of Jerry Seinfeld while their toddlers can easily follow the story. The movie also has great lessons about teamwork and unique relationships, like the one between Barry and Vanessa. After watching the film, parents can follow up with an educational lesson on how bees really make honey.

The Peanuts Movie

© 20th Century Studios

With a modern look, the Peanuts gang gets its very own film. Parents will enjoy seeing the loveable characters from their youth embark on new adventures as Charlie Brown tries to go from a loveable loser to someone who can impress the new girl.

Where it's streaming: Disney +

Why it’s great for toddlers: The movie clocks in with a runtime of just 93 minutes, making it short enough to sustain young viewers' attention. It also touches on important themes like friendship and self-esteem, and almost all of the characters are voiced by actual child actors instead of adult Hollywood stars.

Ponyo

Ponyo is a good movie for toddlers
© Walt Disney Studios

In what feels like a magical mashup of Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid, a five-year-old boy rescues Ponyo, a goldfish princess. Liam Neeson, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, and Betty White lend their voices to this animated fantasy film helmed by master filmmaker, Hayao Miyazaki.

Where it's streaming: HBO Max

Why it’s great for toddlers: The colorful and simplistic animation in the film will draw toddlers in and keep them captivated for the nearly two-hour runtime. Ecofriendly messages will also appeal to parents.

Babe

This '90s film will bring many parents back to childhood. Babe, the title character, proves he is more than just an average pig (His talents include the ability to herd sheep.). This children’s classic won an Academy Award and garnered multiple nominations, including one for Best Picture.

Where is it streaming: Amazon Prime, Apple TV

Why it’s great for toddlers: Young viewers will enjoy the various farm animal characters, especially the tiny mouse chorus, which adds a musical element to the film. It also gives kids a chance to see farm life from the perspective of the animals.

Young viewers can catch Cars 2 and Cars 3 if they love the first film.

Where it's streaming: Disney +

Why it’s great for toddlers: The lessons surrounding winning and the value of friendship are important ones that parents can explore with their kids as they watch the film. The colorful animation and cast of characters will keep even the youngest viewers entertained. Parents should note that there is some mild language in the film such as hell.

A positive attitude about yourself goes a long way when it comes to building self-esteem in kids

How many times have you looked in the mirror and frowned at the outfit you’re wearing, or thought twice about eating dessert because it’s a “bad food” (even though it’s not)? Definitely a few, because you’re human, after all. But it’s important to take stock of the things you say when the kids are around and do your best to present yourself as a strong, confident parent.

Kids learn about body positivity and self-confidence from their parents long before they internalize perceived ideals of how they should look on YouTube or social media. And if they have a strong foundation of self-esteem, those messages will have far less of an impact when they do, inevitably, encounter them. We rounded up 9 things to say—and believe!—about yourself in front of your kids so you can help them learn to take pride in who they are.

1. I look nice today. Say it when you’re tired, say it when you feel a cold coming on, say it even if you haven’t showered in a few days. Little ones learn by example; if they hear you speaking positively about yourself, it becomes second nature to do the same. Projecting self-confidence shows worthiness—despite the negative messaging that bombards us daily.

2. That was challenging, and I’m going to try again. Showing you are okay with failure helps kids develop the tools necessary for dealing with disappointment. It might be handy to have a list of people who failed before finding success on hand: think Albert Einstein, Michael Jordan, and Oprah.

3. I made a mistake. It might be one of the hardest things to do, but admitting when we are wrong is one of the best ways to show (and teach) personal responsibility. And that’s a life skill everyone needs.

4. Food keeps me healthy and happy. How you talk about food with kids has a major impact on how they look at their bodies and health. If you practice food neutrality (broccoli is broccoli, a cookie is a cookie—nothing is “good” or “bad”), it’ll help to set the stage for kids to learn the balance of fueling the body and enjoy the pleasures of the food itself.

5. I am proud of my job. Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent, work remotely, or head out to a job, show pride in what you do! Talking about what you do all day shows the kids that while you might be busy, it’s for a good reason—not because you don’t want to read Dragons Love Tacos for the 10th time.

6. I’m glad my body protects me and keeps me alive every day. We can kick a soccer ball, push a swing, and play a board game, and we can do it all without being the “right size.” Referring to your body as something you use as a tool for life is key to helping kids develop a positive self-image.

7. This outfit makes me feel beautiful. Raise your hand if you’ve found yourself cursing while trying on clothes because something doesn’t look quite right. Try focusing on things you like about what you’re wearing: this color complements my skin tone, these leggings are perfect for our park play date, and this hat makes me stand out in a crowd. Pointing out the good instead of the bad is a way to encourage self-love and confidence.

8. I enjoy exercising because it makes me feel strong. Moving our bodies is about so much more than losing weight. It’s about how exercise is good for our brain, helps us ward off illness, and prolongs our lifespan. In today’s tech-driven culture, driving home these ideas is more important than ever.

9. I believe every day is a new chance to start over. It’s easy to let negative thoughts rule our mindset. Yes, life is tough, but it’s also beautiful, and we only get one go of it. A wonderful gift (or tool) you can give your kids is the ability to look at the present and the future and understand that everything moves forward. We alone can make change for ourselves, even if it’s something as tiny as writing down notes of gratitude or as big as demanding the help you need.

An executive director on TikTok is explaining that being a SAHM to two kids for 18 months was so much harder than her day job is now

It all started with a TikTok video where a creator revealed her dream job: Being a SAHM. “Is anyone else’s dream job to become a stay-at-home wife/mom?” she wrote over the video, where she wistfully talked about “baking some cute little muffins” and “buying some throw pillows.” Stay-at-home moms who are reading this, take a deep breath. It’s OK. Another mom already did it for you.

A former SAHM who now works as an executive director stitched the video to explain the difference in difficulty between staying home with two kids and running a whole-ass company. And guess which one was harder? By a lot?

“OK, so no hate to this creator, because I used to have the same thought process,” Shay, who goes by @shayjo21 on TikTok, explained. “I couldn’t wait to have kids so I could stay home with them. I thought staying at home with my kids would be the best job ever because I thought it was easy. Because what did I see? Moms on social media making it look easy.”

My little “executive director” job aint shit compared to me staying home for 18months with my two children!!and thats on mary had a little lamb #stayathomemom #fypシ゚viral #familytok

She continued, “But the key factor of that fantasy was I didn’t have kids yet, and I can tell by her description she doesn’t have kids. Because she said something about baking muffins with children, buying throw pillows, and organizing her fridge like she sees on TikTok. Let me tell you something: That’s 30 seconds of someone’s life.”

The moms in the audience are silently applauding right now.

Shay kept going: “Bake a muffin with a child. Have you met a child, first of all, because if you’ve met a child, then you know that’s a bad idea because I’ve tried it. I baked muffins with my kids, and my daughter had flour in her hair for a week. Throw pillows? What’s a throw pillow? My son punches them, kicks them.”

She then dropped the real truth of it all: “Being a SAHM is hard work. I’m a girl boss… and my stay-at-home experience was way harder than any job in management that I’ve ever had. Period. My job is structured. I know exactly what I’m going to walk into. Being a SAHM was exhausting. It was repetitive. It was lonely. And I had a supportive partner who worked from home and was right there. He helped me out with the kids greatly, but it was still hard work.”

She ended her video, “To all my SAHMs out there, I could never do what you do. I couldn’t do it. It is a hard job. And if you’re fantasizing about it, it’s because you don’t have children. Clearly, you’ve never met a child. Have a couple kids, and then let us know how that worked out.”

Amen, mom.

These delish drinks offer just the right ingredients to help your littles feel their best

As a dietitian, it’s no surprise that I’m a smoothie lover—and I’m always cooking up new smoothie recipes for kids. These blended bevys are versatile, easy to whip up, absolutely delicious, and provide a healthy dose of nutrition. Smoothies are also my secret weapon for brightening up cranky moods after a nap—and my kids are over the moon when I turn them into smoothie bowls with rainbow sprinkles. Who wouldn’t want to feel like supermom every time the blender roars?

What you might not know is that smoothies have their own superpowers, too. These handy drinks can be used to address several everyday challenges that kids encounter. The ingredients you toss in your blender can ease constipation, support healthy weight gain, or help balance their moods. And when your kid comes home with their fourth stuffy nose of the month, grab your trusted blender from the pantry because it’s smoothie time! Here are some of my favorite kid-approved smoothie recipes that can turn these challenges into tasty triumphs.

1. The Smooth Move
Supports: Constipation

If your kid’s bowels seem to have gone on strike, this fiber-packed smoothie might just get them moving. In addition to balancing blood sugar and increasing satiety, fiber also combats constipation. Adding high-fiber foods such as chia seeds, ground flaxseeds, and leafy greens can help stimulate the bowels and make it easier to go. If you’re worried your child won’t like chia or flax, rest assured that they have a nutty flavor similar to peanut butter. Prunes are also well-known for their laxative effects (just don’t add too many—you don’t want any accidents at the kitchen table!).

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt or kefir (bonus: probiotics!)
  • A handful of spinach
  • 1-2 prunes (optional)
  • Milk of choice, thin to desired consistency

Directions and Notes:

  • Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend until smooth.
  • Start by adding a small amount of milk to the blender. Nothing is worse than a watery smoothie!
  • Try frozen mango or pineapple instead of mixed berries for a tropical twist.
  • In a hurry to catch the school bus? Pour leftover smoothies into reusable pouches for your kiddo to finish at school.

2. Pink Immuno Blast
Supports: The Sniffles

Backpacks filled with art projects and homework aren’t the only things coming through the door now that school is back in full swing; kids are also bringing home pesky classroom germs. While the sniffles, coughs, and sore throats are basically rites of passage for school-age children, adding some vitamin C-packed smoothies can make stay-at-home-with-mom days a bit more bearable. Dragon fruit, berries, walnuts, and hemp seeds may not cure your little scholars, but they pack a ton of immune-supporting nutrients, including omega-3s and protein. Plus, adding dragon fruit will transform this smoothie into a vibrant shade of pink, adding a touch of magic while your kid is curled up on the couch.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup frozen dragon fruit
  • 1/2 c frozen strawberries
  • 1 tbsp walnuts
  • 1/2 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Milk of choice, thin to desired consistency

Directions and Notes:

  • Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend until smooth.
  • Swap out half of the milk for pomegranate juice to give your smoothie an extra punch of immune-supporting antioxidants.
  • Freeze leftover smoothie blend into popsicle molds as the cooling effect will work wonders to soothe sore throats.

3. Nutrilicious Delight
Supports: Picky eating and poor weight gain

During those frustrating bouts of fussy eating or when your kid could use some help with weight gain, the key is to focus on foods that are rich in nutrients and packed with energy. Nut or seed butter, coconut oil or milk, bananas, rolled oats, Greek yogurt, and dates are ingredients that make every sip count. Want another helpful tip? You can toss some veggies into the smoothie—not to sneak them past your kiddo (we want them to trust us!) but to prove that vegetables can actually be delicious in different forms. Opt for mild-tasting options like spinach and zucchini to make sure they don’t compromise the flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/4 cup frozen zucchini or a handful of spinach
  • 2 tbsp nut/seed butter
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2-3 pitted dates
  • Whole milk or coconut milk, thin to desired consistency

Directions and Notes:

  • Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend until smooth.
  • If your kid is craving something chocolatey, toss in 1-2 tbsp of cocoa powder.
  • Looking for a time-saving hack? Get ahead of the game by prepping a week’s worth of smoothies. Simply fill silicone or ziplock bags with all the ingredients (minus the liquid) and toss them in the freezer. When you’re ready to whip up a smoothie, just grab a bag, add your milk, and you’re one step closer to mom of the year!

4. Strawberry-Banana Brain Booster
Supports: Focus and blood-sugar balance

What do iron, protein, and fat have in common? They all play a crucial role in helping our kids bring their A-game. Iron supports brain development, while protein and fat keep blood sugar balanced, sparing us from cracky moods and wipe-out level fatigue. Now that it’s back-to-school season, these nutrients can be a game-changer for kids trying to stay focused and energized in the classroom. So, if you’re thinking of sending them off to school with a smoothie, go for one that’s iron-packed with pumpkin and chia seeds, plus almond or cashew butter for the extra protein and fat kick. Don’t forget to include some vitamin C from strawberries, which helps the body absorb all those iron superpowers!

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 tbsp pumpkin seeds
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp almond or cashew butter
  • Nut milk or coconut milk, thin to desired consistency

Directions and Notes:

  • Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend until smooth.
  • Since calcium from dairy can inhibit the absorption of iron, this one works best with non-dairy milk.
  • Consider a fun cup or straw that features a sports team or a character they love, like Paw Patrol or Elsa.
  • Get your kids involved in the kitchen by turning smoothie-making into a fun family tradition!
