If the idea of swimsuit season makes you tense up, stick with us. We know it’s not always easy to fully embrace our bodies, but times are a-changin’! Social media, fashion websites, even store mannequins have gotten with the program and are showcasing a wide range of body types. Now more than ever,  it’s much easier to find models and influencers that represent our own bodies. And although there’s definitely a lot of work still to be done as far as size inclusivity goes across the board, there’s progress in the air. The body positivity movement isn’t going anywhere, so the perfect mom swimsuit is out there. We promise.

Let’s remember, no matter how you feel about your body, every body is a beach body. Our kids just want us to put on the bathing suit and spend the season creating memories with them. Not only do they not care about your oh-so-human “imperfections”, they likely don’t even see them. We can guarantee that no one sees what you consider to be flaws the same way that you do. At the end of the day, we want to set an example for our children. Showing them that their own bodies are perfect just as they are starts with us learning to love our own. We aren’t saying it’s that simple; but we are saying that the first step in getting comfortable at the beach or pool is just doing it. Putting on the swimsuit and getting out there. And we’re here to help.

These mom swimsuits from Amazon are totally mom-friendly. They’re flattering, confidence-boosting, and downright cute. We’ve made sure that they’re also supportive, offer various levels of coverage, and include a wide range of sizes. These are some seriously adorable and wearable suits that we’re confident you’ll feel great in. Get ready to flaunt that hot (yes, hot!) bod this spring and summer in one of these mom swimsuits, all snaggable from Amazon!

This little number is like a bikini without the commitment. It also comes in a ton of colors so you may want to pick up more than one!

Amazon Review: I have an athletic build (with a few extra winter pounds in this pic ;) but love the suit for the most part. I wish it was a little less cheeky / narrow cut in the back and the off shoulder side was a little higher for a little more chest coverage. Overall very happy with it. Quality fabric and stays in place. I returned L because it was too small and the XL fits well. I usually I'm somewhere between a medium and large both for top and bottom. —SavvyStagerAndHomeMaker

Your body has done some amazing things over the past few months, more than anything, it has created and give birth to a tiny human! As your baby grew, your body cleverly accommodated it but for many, even most women, the abdominal muscles will have accepted some degree of separation to allow for your growing bump. This is totally normal and with the right approach and the right exercises, these muscles will find their way back together.

Let’s start with breathing! For a lot of post natal mums, the art of breathing and engaging the core muscles correctly requires some reminding and retraining. It is hugely important to restore good breathing techniques in order to form a foundation for which to grow on. There are a number of disciplines of exercise that rely on correct and proper breathing techniques and this is by no means just about fueling the body with oxygen, it is actually to make sure that you can properly connect with the core muscles as day to day movement relies on correct core engagement. By starting with a good breathing technique, you will lay the foundations for a stronger core.

How to Breathe Correctly

  • Start by lying on your back with one hand on your tummy and the other hand on the side of your ribcage
  • Breathe deeply into your tummy and into the side of the ribcage feeling your tummy rise and your ribcage expand
  • As you breathe out, you should feel your tummy relax

Once you have mastered this and you are sure you are activating your pelvic floor muscles you can move onto movement based exercises below.

Hip Bridges: Aim to do 2 sets of 12 reps

  • Lying on your back bend your knees so that your feet are flat on the floor
  • Raise the hips off the floor squeezing your glutes (bum) and activating your pelvic floor muscles
  • Hold at the top for a few seconds then relax back down to neutral position

Squats: Aim to do 2 sets of 12 reps

  • Start with your feet hip width apart
  • Breathe in as you sit back into the squat as if to sit onto a chair
  • Keep a neutral back throughout with weight evenly distributed through your heels
  • Squeeze your bum to stand back upright to starting position

Half Press Ups: Aim to do 2 sets of 8 reps

  • Start on your knees with your hands under your shoulders
  • Knees, hips and shoulders should all be aligned
  • Breathe in as you bend your elbows wide and lower the chest to the floor
  • Keep your head aligned with your spine
  • Breathe out as you push yourself back to the starting position

Remember only even do as much as you feel you can do, listen to your body and ease into it.

Checking your tummy gap (Diastasis Recti): Understanding your own tummy gap, core and pelvic floor activation levels is key to fully restoring your postpartum strength and fitness. Remember that everyone is unique and everyone’s starting point is personal. For more physiotherapist led core series including Diastasis check and scar massage check out CariFit.

10 Workouts New Moms Can Do at Home

I have been helping new moms get back into exercise for over a decade. Dubbed the "baby man" after carrying the babies for moms whilst they exercised, I saw that by merging babywearing and fitness, we could remove the barriers to exercise and I launched CARiFiT 6 years ago!

Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr. and wife Nicolette Robinson welcomed a baby boy! The actor recently announced the birth of his second child in a sweet Instagram post.

According to Odom’s IG post, the couple welcomed their son, Able Phineas, on Mar. 25. Along with an awesomely adorable pic of the newborn, Odom also posted a photo of himself and Robinson and new big sis Lucille Ruby.

The couple’s almost four-year-old daughter beamed as she held her baby brother. When asked earlier this year, how his daughter felt about her soon-to-be younger sib, Odom told PEOPLE, “She’s so protective of Mama. She speaks to Mama’s tummy and says, ‘Good morning, little baby.’ It’s great to see,” he said at the time. “It’s a very useful thing as a parent; when she’s not being the most mature version of herself, we remind her that there’s a baby coming and she’s got to be a big sister … she’s got to show him the way.”

Odom added an adoring shout out to Robinson in his IG post, writing, “More life! One whole week with our Abe. Watching Nicolette give birth to these kids…?” The actor continued, “Simply, the bravest acts I’ve ever witnessed from a foot away. I love you, sweetheart and I am in awe. Our little family bursts at the seams with joy! And gratitude.”

I use the word “obsessed” a lot, especially when it comes to my five-year-old autistic son, Johnny. He really gets into certain toys, songs, and shows. It annoys my husband that I use the word so much. “He’s not obsessed, he just likes it” and to his credit, the interest comes and goes often even though he does fixate for a short time.

The one thing—not even my husband can den—is that Johnny is obsessed with my stomach. The kid loves it. It can drive me insane, but something about it fascinates and comforts him. Sometimes it is in a silly, squishing my flab, way; other times it is him resting his usually restless head on it, or hiding his face in it when he is anxious or nervous in public.

I’m sure it stems from the hours of skin to skin as a baby, the comfort of laying on mommy as a toddler, and all the encouragement to touch and love on it when it held his little sister.

The older he gets the more we work on the appropriateness of it. He’s still little, but attempting to lift up my shirt at home or grab my tummy in public isn’t going to work. He has to learn to respect my space and body. The moment I lie down when he’s around he goes straight for it. You will hear “no belly” often, in our home.

The thing is, sometimes I look at my belly in the mirror after the shower and think I feel ashamed of it. My 30’s belly is much different than the almost flat stomach from my 20’s. My workouts come and go, as do my healthy eating habits. I try but I’m also a tired and exhausted mom who has been through many ups and downs.

So, I won’t lie, he’s not catching rock hard abs there, It’s surely a comfortable and soft pillow.

The neat thing is he doesn’t see it as fat, or unhealthy, or shame, he simply sees it as mom, comfort, and safety.

No judgment, just love.

My son loves a part of me that I find hard to, and that changes the way I see it. Don’t worry I’m not using it as an excuse to stay unhealthy or out of shape, but it is a reminder of my son’s beautiful, unconditional acceptance and love.

So when I stand in the mirror looking at that belly, I can say it’s the way it is because I carried two beautiful children in it and because I’m a special needs mom who has had some really hard days. It’s not perfect because there is not time for perfection in my life right now, maybe there never will be. But I am doing my best and that’s okay.

I’m loved and accepted no matter what, by my son.

Johnny is different. The amazing thing about him is that he does not judge. He doesn’t look for the flaws in others or make fun of others, instead, he seeks. Seeks what makes him happy, and what he loves.

There is something undeniably beautiful in that and I’m grateful for that unconditional love and for someone who truly loves my flaws.

There are so many choices new parents need to make, and what to feed their baby is no exception. It can be trial and error when it comes to finding the right formula and tummy troubles can make for one cranky babe. Not sure why your baby is fussing with feeding? It could be a cow milk sensitivity.

Cue Kabrita USA, and their line of gentle goat milk-based toddler formula and foods as an alternative to the norm, because let’s face it: what is normal, anyway? Kabrita products are based on naturally easy-to-digest goat milk. Goat milk protein is gentle on tiny tummies, so it’s great for babies and toddlers. Just like traditional formula, their toddler formula is fortified with 22 vitamins and minerals (along with DHA), giving children nutritional insurance and parents assurance. Goat Milk Is Great

Goat milk has always been a bit of a trade secret among parents and is known for its naturally easy-to-digest properties. Kabrita has harnessed goat milk’s gentle benefits into its line of goat milk foods, designed for babies and toddlers.

Compared to cow milk, goat milk protein forms a smaller, softer and looser curd in the tummy, leading to quick and easy digestion. Kabrita Goat Milk Toddler Formula is an option for little ones with cow milk consumption symptoms, or cow milk sensitivity.

Wait, different types of milk are digested differently? Yep. We were surprised, too! Don’t worry, you can learn about the essential differences in milk digestion here.

Going Beyond Formula

Kabrita offers a gentle goat milk-based Toddler Formula, ideal for weaning or supplementing, for little ones with symptoms related to cow milk consumption.

They also offer nutrient-dense, goat milk-based porridges—available in multigrain and apple cinnamon flavors. This cereal is easy on the tummy, packed with nutrition and is delicious, making it an ideal first food. There are even goat-cheese Snack Puffs. These toddler-sized puffs pack a big crunch and are made for snacking on the go!

For Moms, By Moms

We love trailblazers: Kabrita USA is disrupting the formula category with a new option for parents!

Kabrita USA is 100% women run and led by moms. Their mission is to empower parents to nourish their children with confidence. They strive to add value to their community through a commitment to education, transparency and supportive communication. Say it with me: MOM POWER!

My entire life, I have struggled with my body image and my own self-worth. A girl with a pretty face, but whose body never seemed to match the face. A tummy that always stuck out.  Love handles that were always there. My brother, teasingly, because that’s what brothers do, patting my belly at 15 and saying, “Is it a boy or girl?” I would analyze every angle of myself just wishing I could wave a magic wand and look like my friends strutting around the beach in bikinis, whereas I had to wear a tankini to hide the fat.

As a child, my mother always had the house looking like something out of a magazine. Everything was meticulous. She would refresh her lipstick throughout the day and had hair that was always perfectly in place. My mother, in her size four attire, took pride in her appearance, and exercised regularly. There was nothing wrong with the way she took care of our house and her appearance. I was and still am proud of the woman who raised me. The problem was, even as a child, I constantly compared myself to her. I wasn’t as naturally slight as her, I didn’t have her vivacious personality. I was quiet, chubby, and bookish.

This pessimistic, self-doubting attitude followed me into college. Partying too much, and eating too many carbs, I gained the traditional freshman 15- or in my case 20. But instead of focusing on healthy eating and exercising, I began going through periods where I would skip meals and when I did eat, I would throw up afterward. This was the start of a tumultuous relationship with food and myself. I didn’t think I was worthy of a positive relationship so I dated men who didn’t value me. Men who only saw me as a “hookup” or someone to call when they were drinking.

Thankfully, after college, I discovered running. It was such a great stress reliever and gave me the positive endorphins that I had been missing. Between running, and an excessive amount of Vitamin D from moving to San Diego I was happy and started to see myself in a positive light. I met this wonderful man, who is now my husband of eleven years, and he sees the light in me even on my darkest days.

I wish I could say that by meeting Greg all my insecurities went out the window. They didn’t because I’d never really dealt with the issues at hand. I saw myself in this negative space that made me feel I wasn’t good enough. That when I look in the mirror, I probably see someone who is 50 lbs. heavier than I actually am. That I hate having my picture taken, and when I do have to be in a photo, I cringe when I see a photo because I can’t believe I could look like that.

I now have an almost eleven-year-old and six-year-old. I also have a thyroid problem. I know that I am chronically stressed and my hormones are out of whack. Unfortunately, none of these have been good for my mental health. Many days I still don’t feel great about myself, but there is one thing that has changed—and it is the little people who are looking at me to be their mirror.

I can’t let history repeat itself.  So much of our self-worth comes from what our parents instill in us. As my oldest daughter is on the edge of beginning puberty, I have seen her trying on outfits, and making a face when she thinks she doesn’t look good enough or pinching her tummy. It terrifies me.

I encourage her to make healthy choices (but it is okay to have a treat too). She is even starting to take an interest in cooking, so I have been encouraging her to look up healthy recipes that she would want to eat. She is an anxious kid and we are working on making sure that she moves her body not because it is a rule or something she has to do, but because it puts her in a positive headspace and is calming.

My youngest daughter was eating a cookie one afternoon, and when I asked her if I could have a bite, she replied, “No, because of the calories.”  I asked her what she meant by that and she told me that if I don’t watch my calories, I’ll get a bigger belly and not be pretty. Calories is not something we talk about in our house.

I said to her following the cookie incident, “ Being beautiful doesn’t mean you are skinny. God makes people in lots of different ways. Besides don’t you think what matters most is that you are a good, kind person, and always try your best?” By that point, she had lost interest in the conversation and went back to playing with her Shopkins, but I hope the point was not lost. Here was this six-year-old bringing up calories—she saw me in the same negative light I had seen myself in for two decades. I cannot change my past perception of myself, but I can change the image of myself that I present to my daughters and our society’s interpretation of what beauty is.

At 38 years old, every once in a while that same teenage girl full of so much self-loathing tries to take over. With effort, I focus on my good qualities. My writing, my sarcastic sense of humor, my blue eyes, and curly hair. And there are days when the cycle wants to repeat itself, but those incredible little people who I get the privilege of raising, deserve more than that. So, I tell that girl, the sullen girl to get out of the mirror so I can help pave the way and set an example for these strong, talented, and beautiful girls that I get to call mine.

Hello!

I am a mom to two smart, audacious, and beautiful  little girls (10, 6) .  I am a fiction writer, and almost through my first draft of my novel.  When I'm not reading, or writing fiction I freelance copywrite and teach middle school English.

The world around us may be chaotic, but your baby’s nursery is calm. Dr. Harvey Karp and his team at Happiest Baby have created SNOObear to soothe your little one and help transition them into their crib.

SNOObear

SNOObear is a super-huggable teddy has a sound machine in its tummy that plays the same magical sounds babies love in the SNOO, the award-winning, responsive baby bed created by Dr. Karp.

The SNOObear features six soothing sounds, rumbly train, soft shush, loud shush and the three classic SNOO sounds with three volume leavels. The SNOObear plays the sounds for 30 to 60 minutes. The SNOObear “pays attention”for three hours after the sound stops, responding to any new cries with another round of soothing sounds.

Make your little ones laugh by utilizing the finger holes on the bear’s back. Move the bears arms for pupperty fun.

Bring SNOObear along on all your adventures. The built-in strap makes it easy to dangle from your stroller or car seat for on-the-go shushing comfort.

The SNOObear is available on www.happiestbaby.com for $59.95.

NOTE: Never leave SNOObear in bed with infants under 1 year old. Never attach SNOObear (to the crib, etc) within reach, if your child is less than 1 year old.
