Top Bun

Swap out that basic mom bun for something a little more dramatic by sweeping your hair up on top of your head. Avoid those stray, static hairs when you pull your hair up by maintaining your hair’s natural oils to keep it nourished. Stylist Michelle Cleveland suggests, "Using a detangling brush such as “WETBRUSH” comb through your hair, evenly disbursing that scalp oil from roots to ends. The natural oils will help protect the hair from breakage. Next, reach for a dry shampoo and be sure to spray only at the root area, massaging it in with the pads of your fingertips to ensure complete absorption of oils only at the scalp.”

If you’re lucky, you may have seen a welcome sign on your last Costco run. It appears that after a months-long hiatus, Costco is bringing back its fan favorite churros!

Instagram account @costcobuys spotted signage at a Huntington Beach, California Costco that shows a twisted churro “coming soon” with a new price tag of $1.49. Before you get too riled up about the $.50 price hike, the new cinnamon and sugar treat is actually bigger than its predecessor––and now has butter on it.

If you remember, Costco announced back in August 2020 that they would be testing out an updated Churro recipe and many warehouses saw the old version removed from the food court menu. There’s no official word yet on which locations will get the new treat, nor when.

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled on your next Costco run!

If you are looking for a screen-free way to keep the kids entertained, Toyish Labs has created a new flexible play system to keep kids creating. Clixo combines the magic of origami, the ease of building blocks, and the power of magnets.

“Toys need just enough structure to help spark creativity, but not so much as to control it,” said Assaf Eshet, Founder and CEO at Toyish Labs. “Clixo isn’t built to collect dust on a shelf. It’s designed to be put together and then immediately be taken apart and rebuilt to form something new. That’s what the real process of creativity is like, and where research suggests we do our best learning.”

Clixo joins Eshet’s other award-winning designs to take free-form expression to the next level. Through intensive R&D, Assaf developed this first-to-market concept that allows children to transform lightweight, flexible pieces from 2D into 3D, clicking inventive ideas into infinite possibilities that can be worn, stuck on the fridge, or even tossed like a ball. The patented and proprietary design of colorful, twisting and interlocking shapes comprised of reinforced paper and durable magnets encourage improvisation, experimentation, and out of the box thinking.

Clixo

“Clixo is pushing boundaries as a toolbox for self-expression,” added Eshet. “What drives me and my team is a return to simplicity and creativity in play, while helping kids develop STEAM skills. We knew we found the perfect Clixo chape when this philosophy came alive in our hands. We’re excited to let kids own their play while unlocking new pathways to experimentation and imagination.”

Get ready for a flavor rush. Sparkling Smartwater from Coca-Cola will soon come in strawberry blood orange, fuji apple pear and raspberry rose.

This isn’t exactly the first time Coca-Cola has put its own stamp on the flavored water market. In a 2018 press release Brad Spickert, SVP of hydration for Coca-Cola North America said, “We’ve increasingly seen a blurring of lines between categories like diet soft drinks, sparkling waters, sports drinks and more as consumers look for new choices for every beverage occasion.” Back then Smartwater’s sparkling flavor was…well, just sparkling.

According to reports, by the end of March Coca-Cola will release the three new sparkling flavors in North America. They’ll join the bevy of fun fruity flavors that the beverage bottler has debuted in the past few years.

While the Dasani brand is Coca-Cola’s only other flavored sparkling water, the company’s newly-released Orange Vanilla Coke recently joined Diet Coke’s new lineup of flavors including strawberry guava, blueberry acai, ginger lime, zesty blood orange, twisted mango and fiesty cherry.

Like yoga pants and Ugg boots, mom buns can sometimes get a bad rap, but when you’re chasing young kids, the last thing you want is a hairdo that gets in your way. Just remember—even if you go with something practical, that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. We’ve rounded up some easy hairstyles that make the mom bun look totally stylish.

Messy Bun

Tamara Bellis via Unsplash

You can't go wrong with a basic messy bun to give you the clean, practical look of an updo without being too formal. Pull your hair into a loose ponytail, either high or low will work. Twist the hair, and wrap it around the base of the ponytail, continuing to wrap below the bun. Secure your hair with an elastic tie and bobby pins. You can pull out a few strands from the bun or around your face to make it a little messier.

Half Bun

David Solce via Unsplash

For a variation on the messy bun, try a half-up style. Gather just half your hair at the top and then follow the same steps to making a messy bun, leaving the rest of your locks flowing free.

Top Knot Bun

Lexie Barnhorn via Unsplash

A top knot bun is an easy, protective style for natural hair. With hair stretched, smooth it up into a ponytail and then form into a bun, securing in place with a second hair tie or pins.

Low Side Bun

Sonya Benham via Flickr

This is an easy hairstyle that’s meant to look a little messy, so you don’t have to spend a lot of time perfecting those wayward strands if you have hair that’s hard to tame. Create a side part, and gather all your hair to the side in a low ponytail. Wrap your hair tie around and twist it while twisting your hair at the same time, and loop the band around one more time to create a bun. Use bobby pins to tuck in loose ends and give the bun more shape.

Octopus Bun

Yanapi Senaud via Unsplash

A variation on the messy bun is the octopus—the latest trend in bun hairstyles that also happens to be one of the easiest. Simply sweep your hair up into a high ponytail, then wrap the length of your hair around the base of your ponytail. When there’s just a small amount of hair left, tuck the ends under the band, leaving them sticking out.

Tousled Chignon

Tanesha Awasthi

Tame your curly tresses with a sleek, but simple chignon. As Girl With Curves' Tanesha Awasthi describes, simply gather your hair to the side like you're making a side ponytail then pull it halfway through an elastic hair tie and twist the tie back over to form a messy bun. Check out the full tutorial here.

Two Minute Braided Bun

Abby Smith/Twist Me Pretty via YouTube

Practically effortless, this braided bun from hair guru Abby Smith at Twist Me Pretty is going to be your new fave style. A low ponytail and a simple braid is the basis for this chic look. Abby isn't kidding when she says it only takes two minutes to pull off this 'do! Head to her YouTube channel to see the quick tutorial.

Panda Buns

Double up on buns with this playful updo. Split your hair into two parts and put each side up into a high, messy bun.

If your hair is too short for high buns, you can still get a similar look with a half-up version. Gather half your hair at the top, split into two sides and form buns.

All good things must come to an end—and sadly this includes the epic saga of the Pearson family. The show’s creator has just announced when the final season of This Is Us will be and you’ll want to go ahead and stock up on the tissues.

In a recent interview with Deadline, This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman revealed a lot about where the series is headed and when it will all come to an end. With multiple mysteries at play and some already resolved, it might seem impossible for This Is Us to serve up any more emotional punches, but according to Fogelman the ride is only half over.

Fogelman revealed that the rest of this season will feature an episode dedicated to Randall and Beth, including their first date, as well as a theatrical-style episode that takes place in real time. “We’ve got multiple seasons mapped out. I think this season has been a lot about redemption, but also a lot of rebirth. Next season is a season of new beginnings and restarts.”

Fogelman explained that the series will feature even more of the signature twisting timelines This Is Us has become known for, but just like LOST—another series that played with time and emotions—there is an endgame. The series’ showrunner, Isaac Aptaker said, “From day one, Dan came in with his master plan for the big picture stuff of the show and said, ‘I think this is where we end up.’”

He added that the writers are planning for “about three seasons into the future” to reach the series finale. In other words, expect the show to end after season six.

Sad as it is to say goodbye to the Pearson clan, there is a silver lining to knowing the show will end. Aptaker said, “We’ve had this end in mind for a long time, so we’re able to plan for it, and try to make it feel like it’s a whole, as opposed to a series that’s going to go endlessly.”

4 Fatherhood Lessons from Jack on “This Is Us” That’ll Make You a Better Dad

Why “Goodnight Moon” & “This Is Us” Will Forever Co-Exist

It takes more than, “I think I can” to make your little believers fly; they’re also going to need a little pixie dust. But where to get it? Follow this simple step-by-step DIY pixie dust recipe and your kids will be Neverland-bound in no time.

pixiedust-supplies

What You’ll Need

Glitter (at least two different kinds)

Mixing bowl

Spoon for mixing

Vials for holding pixie dust (available here, or at your local craft store)

Labels

Baby powder, if you plan on sprinkling your dust outside (see last step)

Step 1: Pour in the sparkles

Let your little Peter Pans or Wendys pick and pour their glitter into a medium to large-sized bowl (bigger bowl = less mess). Fine glitter works best for pixie dust, but you can toss in different grains to add dimension (and sparkle!) to your finished product. Note: Keep your glitter away from carpets or furniture; it takes some real magic to get sparkles out of fabrics.

pixiedustbottle-step1
pixiedustbottle-step2

 Step 2: Spoon Into Vials

What vials, you ask? Amazon and Etsy sell multitudes of magical-looking tiny glass bottles (some even have attached loops to turn your vials into necklaces!) perfect for pixie dust. If this is a last-minute sort of project and you don’t have time to order in advance, look in the jewelry section of your local craft store to find small bead containers. Even better? Just look around your house: Old salt and pepper shakers work great — just dab some glue over the holes if you don’t want glitter all over everything, or tell your tiny Tinkerbell to keep her sparkle-spreading strictly outside.

pixiedustbottle-step4

Step 3: Slap a Label on It!

Once your jar is filled and closed, let your kids make a special label for it. Don’t skip this step: This is what turns a simple jar of glitter into a magical vessel of super-special fairy dust.

pixiedust-label

Step 4: Enjoy!

Let your kiddos keep their pixie dust in a special place — or make it into a necklace by twisting tiny eye screws into your bottle corks.

pixie dust label

Step 5: Want Something Flashier?

If your spell-casters want to throw their pixie dust instead of bottling it up, simply add equal amounts of baby powder to glitter — then take it outside and toss it by the handful. Kids will love seeing their pixie dust go POOF as the glitter falls to the ground. (Note: This version doesn’t look as pretty in a bottle, so it’s best to keep it for tossing.)
