Were you lucky enough to snag tickets to Disney’s Oogie Boogie Bash? The separately ticketed event takes place at Disney California Adventure throughout the fall season and boasts special shows, limited capacity and lots of candy.

While you’ve likely visited a theme park during Halloween before, there are a few tips that will take your time with Oogie Boogie to the next level. Our editors recently hit up the special spooky soiree and we’ve got a few secrets you won’t want to miss.

Getting In to the Bash

There are two ways to get access to the Oogie Boogie Bash. First, if you have tickets to Disney California Adventure that day, you can head to the Blue Sky Cellar starting at 3 p.m. to get your wrist bands and treat bags. This is the way to go: do not leave the park if you don't have to. Tickets to the event also allow for a three hour "mix-in" period where you can gain entry starting at 3- something we highly recommend.

If you wait until 6 p.m. when the party officially starts, you will likely encounter a large line in front of the entrance gates. If you are not early enough to get in line before a crowd forms, do yourself (and your anxious kids) a favor and wait at least 20-30 minutes before heading to the gates. By then, the crowds will have dissipated and you can walk right in.

Get Ready for TONS of Candy

You may think you've hit it big on your local neighborhood trick or treating sesh, but it doesn't compare to the stash you'll bring home from the Oogie Boogie Bash. All attendees will receive a perfectly large enough bag to bring home plenty, but if you're the candy-loving type, you may want to bring a separate bag too.

There are lots of Treat Trails set up through the park, and all it takes is a short stint in the line before weaving past five or more candy stations where park employees will drop handfuls of candy in your bags. It seriously couldn't be easier.

We highly recommend hitting up the trail near the Hyperion Theater and behind Soarin'. These are not nearly as crowded as the other options.

Villain alert: Many of the lines have some of your fave scary characters interacting with guests from a stage. If your littles scare easily, take note!

The Parade is LONG

The Frightfully Fun Parade starts at 7:45 and 10 p.m. and it is a long one. To make sure you aren't camped out for 30+ minutes waiting for the parade to make it's way towards you, make sure you find a spot near the front.

For the 7:45 time, our editors made the mistake of waiting near Guardians of the Galaxy, which was actually the end of the parade route. After waiting for over 20 minutes, we started walking towards the front and still never caught the beginning of the parade!

Hit Up the Popular Attractions

Since the Oogie Boogie Bash is a special ticketed event, there are far fewer people than normal within the park. What does this mean?

First, that Spiderman Web Slingers does not have the virtual queue! That's right, normal folks can actually wait in line without snagging a spot in the hard-to-get virtual option. As one of Disney California Adventure's newest attractions, this is a can't miss.

Other notables you want to sneak on include Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout (which has a super cool overlay for the season), Radiator Springs Racers and the Incredicoaster, as these rides usually have long lines during regular business hours.

Final tip: have fun and dress up! The Oogie Boogie Bash is one of the only times that guests over 14 are allowed to go in costume, so take advantage of that fun family getup.

Even tweens can find something on this list

If you’ve got a dinosaur-obsessed kid at home, we’ve got the ultimate list of movies just for you. From classics like The Land Before Time to documentaries like Walking with Dinosaurs, there’s something for everyone. Scroll down to see our top picks for the best dinosaur movies for kids.

Bob the Builder: Big Dino Dig Movie

Amazon

Ideal for tots who love Bob the Builder and dinosaurs. There is nothing scary, kids watch the characters work together to build an amusement park and see what happens when they dig up some dinosaur bones! The catchy song at the end will have little kids up and moving, too.

Rated NR

Recommended for kids ages 3 & up.

Dinosaur Train: Dinosaur Big City (2011)

Amazon

A sweet movie that’s a spin-off of the popular PBS series. Kids will learn about dinosaurs in a fun and educational way, and they’ll also get a sense of community and social responsibility when they watch the diverse group of dinosaurs working together.

Rated: G

Recommended for kids ages 3 & up.

The Land Before Time (1988)

IMDb

The classic dino movie you loved as a kid is just as sweet for kids today. Follow Littlefoot and his friends as they try to reach the Great Valley, all while outsmarting the scary Sharptooth, escaping volcanos and earthquakes and being separated from family. There may be some tears when Littlefoot’s mom dies, so be ready to explain things to your littlest viewers. There are over 10 more sequels, but the original is by far the best.

Rated G

Recommended for ages 5 & up.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009)

IMDb

Dawn of the Dinosaurs is the third installment of the Ice Age series. This is the first one offered in 3D and is a little bit more intense than the previous two films. Sid gets the gang into trouble (no surprise there) when he swipes three eggs, and they turn out to belong to a T-Rex mama. This third film focuses more on action than friendship, but it’s still a lot of fun and will appeal to both preschoolers and older kids.

Rated PG

Recommended for kids ages 6 & up.

We’re Back! A Dinosaur Story (1993)

IMDb

In this ‘90s film, a set of prehistoric animals are given a dose of magic cereal that gives them the ability to talk, and then, via a time machine, they're taken to modern-day New York City. Filled with a quality cast that includes John Goodman, Walter Kronkite, Julia Child, Martin Short and others, this film is best for older kids who understand the difference between real and pretend violence. There’s a spooky villain, the dinosaurs go “native” for a time, and the child protagonists are transformed, but ultimately, this is a fun flick for dino lovers.

Rated G

Recommended for ages 7 & up.

The Good Dinosaur (2015)

IMDb

Arlo the Apatosaurus makes an unlikely friendship with a little cave boy in this visually stunning Pixar film. The pair will have to fight against some scary forces of nature (think flooding, waterfalls, carnivorous dinosaurs) on their journey, and the advanced animation will make this movie seem more realistic, especially to younger kids.

Rated PG

Recommended for kids 8 & up.

Dinosaur (2000)

IMDb

This Disney film is visually stunning but can be extremely scary at times. Several of the featured dinosaurs battle to the death, and even with the comic-relief lemurs, this is a good choice for older kids.

Rated PG

Recommended for kids 8 & up.

Walking with Dinosaurs (1999)

Wikipedia

Following up on the success of Jurassic Park, this six-part BBC series is made in documentary form with impressive CGI animation. Narrator Kenneth Branagh takes viewers on an educational but entertaining journey that covers all things dinosaur in a factual way that's easy for kids to understand. The series spans the globe, featuring dinosaur hot spots like Chile, Tasmania and New Caledonia, among others, while following the evolution of the prehistoric creatures from their known beginning to their demise.

Rated NR

Recommended for kids ages 9 & up.

Hey You Guys! You Need this Nostalgic Goonies Game for Summer Game Nights

Once upon a time, I lived in la-la land. I had magical dreams of a unicorn baby. A baby that slept through the night and never cried. A toddler that was a well-behaved angel. I dreamt of how easy it would be for a baby to nestle into my existing life as a career-driven woman. My dreams were just that, dreams.

The fairytale life I had envisioned quickly turned into a nightmare. My baby had colic, so not only did he not sleep through the night for months, but he cried all day and night, for months. I felt so alone. I felt betrayed by all my mom friends. No one told me how hard motherhood would be. Everyone let me believe that every moment was filled with glitter and rainbows.

My days were filled with darkness. There was no glitter. Unless you count my glistening tears. Every day, I counted down the hours until my husband came home from work. My favorite noise was hearing his key in the door. As much as I couldn’t wait for him to get home every day, I also resented him. I resented the fact that he got to go to work every days. For nine hours a day, he got to escape a crying, screaming, pooping baby. He got to be around adults and have more meaningful conversations than I was having. Although I don’t think goo goo ga ga qualifies as meaningful or a conversation.

I missed working my regular 7-8 hour days. I missed being creative. I missed setting and achieving big, audacious goals. I tried to work whenever the baby was sleeping (which was hardly ever). But I just couldn’t focus. My art wasn’t flowing. I was exhausted, had mommy brain and was always watching the clock. Counting down the minutes until the baby woke up from his nap.

And then, the villain of my fairytale appeared out of the shadows. Guilt. Relentless Guilt with his sharp claws digging into my heart. Guilt made me feel like a bad mother and wife. Guilt made me feel disgusting for wanting to spend more time working than with my baby. Guilt made me feel shameful for not loving and enjoying every moment I had with my newborn. Guilt made me feel like a horrible human being.

I started to spiral. Looking back now, I know I had a postpartum. But I didn’t realize it then. I just thought this is what motherhood is. None of the moms I knew talked about this stuff. And I felt ashamed that I was having these feelings. I put on a make-believe bright and happy face for the world. I was only posting the picture-perfect moments on social media. I was telling people that being a mom was so fun and fulfilling. But behind all the make-believe, I was having mental breakdowns and dreaming of running away.

I loved my baby, but I didn’t feel like myself. I missed my old life. I have always been a high achiever, setting out to be the best in everything I do. My career and art were such a huge part of who I was. I felt like I was losing all the parts of myself that I admired and loved. I didn’t feel like I was the best mom, wife or artist. I felt like an absolute failure.

Being a children’s book author and illustrator, I set out to inspire children and children inspire me. But motherhood left me uninspired. It was only when I confronted my guilt, that the darkness started to lift. I realized that in order for me to be a good mom and be the person I was meant to be, I had to work. My job sparked a twinkle in my eyes and lit purpose in my heart. It wasn’t motherhood that made me feel uninspired. It was too much guilt and too little of what sparked a light in me.

Just because I was now a mom, didn’t mean I was any less of an artist, a goal-oriented high achiever, a complete fantasy nerd, a big goofball and most importantly, my own person. All those things helped me be a better mom and being a mom helped me be a better person.

During the pandemic, single-use items reigned supreme as families doubled down on sanitation to protect themselves from the virus. With a little planning, we can still be planet superheroes while keeping ourselves safe and protecting our planet against the massive deluge of pollution stemming from the needless use of disposable masks, gloves, wipes and other trashy plastic items.

Small things we do every day can make the planet a greener and cleaner place for people and animals today and for future generations. Check out these 4 easy actions to give a KA-POW! to plastic pollution during a pandemic.

1. Villain: Pitiful Plastic Polluter / Superhero Action: Pick it up
If you see a face mask fluttering by in a park, washed up in a gutter or lost in a parking lot, you can safely help dispose of it so it doesn’t wash into our waterways and pollute our planet. Blue face masks and many other face coverings are made from plastic textiles like polyester. They don’t biodegrade. Don’t touch the waste with your bare hands to protect yourself from potential viral contamination. Instead have on hand a reusable garden glove, kitchen glove, trash picking stick or something else to take it safely to the trash for disposal. Follow the same steps for any other trash you see lost in the environment! Plastic trash isn’t just ugly, it’s also dangerous to wildlife who commonly mistake garbage for food.

2. Villain: Gross Garbage Gyre / Superhero Action: Pack a litter-less lunch
It’s time to reboot your lunch! For many of us, school and work have been happening at home, so we’ve fallen out of the habit of packing food to go. Remember to prevent plastic pollution in the first place by reducing or eliminating it from your daily routine. A perfect place to start is lunchtime. Pack reusable containers that are designed to be easy to use and easy on the environment. Packing your own containers to school every day can prevent more than a thousand pieces of trash.

3. Villain: Trashy Takeout / Superhero Action: Refuse Single Use Takeout Items
When you purchase takeout, make sure you leave a note in the online ordering portal or with the telephone order taker specifying that you do not want any single-use extras packed with your meal. Say goodbye to making single-use plastic cutlery, single-serving ketchup and other condiment packets, and disposable napkins the new normal. You can go even further and ask restaurant managers to stop automatically including these single-use throw-aways with orders and provide them only upon customer request. Recommend biodegradable birch or bamboo utensils in lieu of throw-away plastic cutlery.

4. Villain: Ugly Online Orders / Superhero Action: Choose Plastic-Free Shipments
When shopping online, choose companies with planet-centric shipping practices that carbon offset shipments by packing all orders plastic-free (kraft tape instead of plastic, recycled dunnage paper instead of peanuts and plastic pillows, recyclable cardboard boxes instead of trashy padded plastic envelopes).

Insider Tip: If you’re buying from Amazon, go to amazon.com main search bar and enter keywords “Amazon Customer Service,” select chat, and request that you want your account flagged to receive plastic-free shipments. (Note: Requesting may or may not result in plastic-free shipments depending on your service area, but at least you’re sending a message to Amazon that you don’t want plastic waste in your shipments.) For other stores, add a customer note at checkout requesting a plastic-free, carbon offset shipment or send an email to the company.

The last few years have seen a slew of live-action reboots of fave Disney classics, and this time Disney has turned to one of the most villainous in its newest film. Get ready to get evil!

Cruella documents the early days of the 101 Dalmatians foe in all her fashionable glory. Set in 1970’s London, viewers get to see first hand how this young grifter came to be the fur-loving villain we all know and loathe.

As we see in the trailer, Cruella actually starts out as Estella, a creative woman who is determined to make a name for herself. She ends up becoming friends with a few young thieves and one day catches the attention of Baroness von Hellman, played by Emma Thompson.

In the ensuing scenes, Cruella who was born “brilliant, bad and a little bit mad” shows off her crazy side (including her driving) in epic proportions.
