Nighttime feedings, sleep regressions, kids camped out horizontally in your bed, waiting up til teens get home—nobody said parenting came with sleep benefits. But don’t make the mistake of assuming that your morning cup of coffee is the panacea for all-day exhaustion. It turns out that the things you eat throughout the day may be the secret to the energy you crave.

“The main thing that gives our body energy are food and calories,” explains Diane Burge, a registered dietitian and certified eating disorder specialist in Los Angeles. But not just any food and calories. The trick is to combine carbohydrates, proteins, and fats to keep your energy sustained. She warns that carbs alone—which we often crave when we’re tired—can give you a quick burst of energy, but you’ll crash if you don’t balance them out.

In other words: If you’re going to eat bread, sugar, or French fries (love, love, and love!), be sure to tack on fat and protein. According to Burge, even if you have cotton candy, buffer it with grilled chicken and you’ll be OK. So what should you snack on to put some pep in your step? From peanut butter and cottage cheese to egg sandwiches and loaded nachos (really!), here are some easy food combos that’ll give you energy all day long:

Bagel and Cottage Cheese with Cinnamon

No, you don’t have to give up bread! While bread is loaded with complex carbs, which can give you that quick burst of energy, you’ll need to add protein and fat to keep that energy going. Top a whole grain bagel with protein-rich cottage cheese (which has almost double the protein of cream cheese and is high in vitamin B12). Add a sprinkle of cinnamon—known to help regulate blood sugars and have an antioxidant/anti-inflammatory effect—and you’ll pack in the nutrients without the crash.

Don’t like cottage cheese? A bagel with lox, hummus, or avocado is also a great way to fuel up on protein, fat, and carbs.

Egg & Cheese Sandwich

Protein, check! Fat, check! Carbs, Yep! Egg sandwiches are an easy go-to breakfast food for energy that you can find almost anywhere. Even store-bought egg sandwiches are OK occasionally (they tend to have more fat than the ones you make at home). You can make a lighter version using Egg Beaters or scrambled egg whites topped with light mozzarella on an English muffin. You can also add a tomato for a burst of vitamin C.

Protein Tofu Smoothie

With a sweet mix of protein, fat, and carbs (in the sugar), this smoothie is an easy way to get those nutrients at any time of day. To make it, mix the following ingredients in a blender:

  • 2 oz. tofu
  • banana
  • 1/2 c juice
  • 1/2 c yogurt
  • ice

Homemade Pizza

Make a healthier version of the popular pie at home using a bagel and various toppings. Besides the usual marinara and cheese, Burge recommends adding chicken, tofu, or pepperoni to balance the carbs and fats.

Pasta with Lean Ground Meatballs and Veggies

This perfect combo of lean meats and carbs will fill you up and keep your blood sugar steady for hours. Try this delicious-looking recipe from Pinch of Yum that uses turkey and red bell peppers rich in C, E, and beta-carotene.

Peanut Butter—on Fruit/Crackers/ Rice Cake/ Smoothie/Toast

Peanut butter is the perfect fuel because it is rich in protein and unsaturated fat, which takes a long time to burn off and consequently helps keep you full longer. It is also rich in fiber, biotin, vitamin E, magnesium, iron, selenium, and vitamin B6. Pair it with apples, rice cakes, or crackers for an energy-soaring boost that’ll keep you going for hours.

Well Plated By Erin has an amazing peanut butter banana smoothie recipe that adds a potassium-rich dose of bananas to up the nutrition ante. This peanut butter banana toast recipe is also a perfect pick-me-up, loaded with fiber, protein, fat, and healthy carbs (your kids will love it, too!).

Sushi

Sushi is a great source of lean protein, healthy fats, and energy-boosting carbs. Since rice (high in complex carbs) is paired with fat and protein, it doesn’t raise blood sugar too much. Dietitians recommend choosing rolls or sushi with salmon, tuna, or mackerel, which contain plenty of omega-3 fatty acids to support brain and heart health. Avoid rolls that contain cream cheese or tempura, which add unnecessary fats.

Also, keep portion sizes small if you’re aiming for energy since overeating itself is a cause of sleepiness. Burge recommends 7-8 pieces in total.

Loaded Baked Potatoes

Potatoes, which are loaded with complex carbs, are an energy bomb. Top them with veggies, low-fat cheese, and proteins, and you’ll get a nutrition bomb as well (that won’t bottom you out 30 minutes later). Try substituting traditional cheese with cottage cheese or Greek yogurt, which is higher in protein and lower in fat than other popular cheeses.

This recipe for loaded baked potatoes from Recipe Runner is an easy afternoon hack that’ll keep you fueled.

(Healthy) Loaded Nachos

Bar food much? While smothering tortilla chips in cheddar cheese and refried beans isn’t great for those looking to lose weight, it can help sustain your energy levels and keep you from slumping. Try this healthier version from Skinny Taste—which uses baked chips, lean turkey, reduced-fat cheese, and fat-free black bean dip—to balance carbs, healthy fats, and proteins.

Also, don’t binge, since overeating causes fatigue, too. “It’s about honoring hunger and respecting fullness. If you get too hungry or too full, it makes all the oxygen go to your stomach and you feel tired,” Burge says.

Basically: Share the chips! And stop when you’re full.

Greek Yogurt with Toppings

You should always have Greek yogurt in your fridge, as it’s one of the best foods to give you energy. A perfect protein-packed snack, it’s loaded with calcium and makes a great substitute for oil in baking or sour cream on potatoes and tacos. Top it with fruit (like berries, apples, dates), granola, and nuts, and you’ll get that perfect trio of fat, carbs, and protein that’ll help you keep you going.

Water

Next time you’re feeling extra sluggish, check your hydration levels. Have you been drinking enough? According to studies conducted at the University of Connecticut’s Human Performance Laboratory, even mild dehydration can affect mood, energy level, and focus.

“Your cells need adequate hydration to optimize the production of energy from food,” Dr. Barry Sears, author of The Zone Diet, told NBC News.“If you don’t have adequate hydration in the cells, your ability to produce energy (such as ATP) is reduced and you feel fatigued.”

So how much water do you really need? The Institute of Medicine recommends 13 cups of water for men and nine cups per day for women (Hint: That’s about two Stanley Tumblers’ worth).

A Word About Coffee

Most people we know tend to start their day with a cup of coffee. And while you don’t need to say goodbye to your morning cappuccino, Burge says coffee isn’t always the savior we want it to be.

It will give you a temporary boost, but it leaves you lower than where you were before, so you’re always trying to chase that high,” Burge says.

Coffee is also dehydrating—another energy-zapper—so keep your water bottle handy if you’re caffeinating.

Healthy Trader Joe's products like egg wraps will kickstart the new year.
Kate Loweth

We love these wraps as a breakfast burrito tortilla alternative or topped with fruit for a sweet crepe breakfast. Kids won't be able to tell the difference, we promise! Bonus: there's 4g of protein in each wrap.

Peanut Butter Protein Granola

While you have to be careful when consuming granola since it’s normally high in sugar and fat, this peanut butter protein granola has 11 grams of protein per serving! Enjoy in small amounts atop yogurt for that extra protein serving your body is craving.

Organic Rolled Oats with Ancient Grains & Seeds

When it comes to a dense, nutritious breakfast, you can never go wrong with oatmeal. It packs a healthy portion of carbs and fiber, is rich in antioxidants, and can help lower your cholesterol and improve blood sugar control. Plus, it’s super tasty in homemade protein bars and in a smoothie, too!

Egg Bites

Trader Joe's

You love these little bites from Starbucks and now you can have them every day of the week at home. They come in a cheese, spinach, and kale flavor as well as bacon and cheese. Pop them in the microwave and serve with a dollop of salsa.

Raisin Walnut Apple Bars

We love these little bars as they are packed with protein (10g per bar!) but they have the texture of a roll. Easy to eat on the go, these bars are packed with raisins, walnuts, and apples for a satisfying breakfast option.

Healthy Trader Joe’s Snacks

Papdums

These lentil and chickpea crisps will be your new favorite snacks. One warning: You might just eat the whole bag in one sitting. They have a lovely light Indian flavor with the texture of Pringles. Great served with your favorite hummus.

ABC Bars

We love these for kids' lunches as they have 4g of protein and taste great. The chocolatey dough enrobes the almond butter center and feels like a treat.

Roasted Seaweed Snack

Roasted seaweed is a healthy Trader Joe's product you can put in lunches.

Crunchy, salty, and easy to pack in your kid's lunch. We love this seaweed snack to top ramen bowls.

You get the whole package with this bag of chips. Carrot, tomato, spinach, garlic, red beet, and onion plus lots of omega-3's are all found in this inexpensive and flavorful snack.

Healthy Trader Joe’s Add-Ins

Organic Acai Puree Packets

Acai is a superfood! These pre-made puree packets are loaded with antioxidants and are low in sugar (fruit is usually high in natural sugars). Perfect for that morning smoothie bowl.

Whole Flax Seed

add healthy Trader Joe's products like flax seed to your diet this year.

Flax seed is easy to add to your yogurt, homemade protein bars, and smoothies for a nice, nutty taste and texture. It's rich in omega-3s, fiber, and lignans, which block the effects of estrogen and could potentially help reduce the risk of hormone-associated cancers, such as breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate.

Organic Chia Seed

Trader Joe's chia seeds are a healthy item to add to your diet in 2023.

Chia seeds are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids (that help raise your "good cholesterol"), fiber, antioxidants, iron, and calcium. They also help with reducing inflammation and weight loss and are easy to make into overnight chia seed pudding.

Healthy Trader Joe’s Beverages

Kefir & Cultured Milk

This kefir and cultured milk combo has 12 live and active cultures, packs a lot of protein, and is full of vitamin D. Kefir is a powerful probiotic, can improve bone health, and can aid with digestive problems.

Super Antioxidant Green Tea

Green tea is a must for healthy living: It helps regulate glucose levels, reduces bad cholesterol and high blood pressure, and might even help with aging and wrinkles.

Healthy Trader Joe’s Condiments

Almond Butter

Trader Joe’s salted and unsalted almond butter is great for protein: Each serving packs seven grams. The spread is great for baking or a la carte.

Organic Coconut Aminos Seasoning Sauce

Made with just coconut water, sap, and sea salt, Organic Coconut Aminos Seasoning Sauce is the perfect swap for sodium-laden soy sauce. The gluten-free, kosher sauce contains no soy, but 13 amino acids that make this product a must for stir-fries, fried rice, veggies, and more.

Everything but the Bagel Seasoning

Add flavor without all the carbs a tasty bagel usually brings when you use TJ’s coveted Everything but the Bagel Seasoning. The blend is made with poppy seeds, minced garlic and onion, sea salt flakes, and sesame seeds and is a great addition to anything! Try on hardboiled eggs, avo toast, and even your fave dinners.

Kerrygold Grass-Fed Butter

Kerrygold grass-fed butter is not only better for baking, but it also possesses properties that are anti-inflammatory and makes for an excellent Vitamin A source.

Sunflower Seed Butter

Sunflower butter is not only an alternative to peanuts, but is also an excellent source of protein, vitamin E, magnesium, and lots of other healthy fats. It's also great for kiddos who attend schools with a "no nut policy."

Healthy Trader Joe’s Lunch and Dinner Products

All-Natural Chicken Breasts

These pre-cooked chicken breasts are deliciously flavorful and a great option to have on hand for quesadillas, sandwiches, salads, or soups. Each chicken breast is individually wrapped. You can find these in the deli section.

Beef Bulgogi

This frozen product is quickly topping our list of go-to items to have on hand when dinner needs to come together fast. Add some of the garlicky cabbage and serve this with rice for a filling meal. There's also a meatless option if that's your jam.

Stir-Fried Garlicky Cabbage

Inspired by the Thai dish Galam Plee Pad Nam Pla, this simple stir-fry of cabbage, a whole lot of garlic, and fish sauce makes a tasty addition to your meal whether you have it as a side or mix it in with your stir-fry.

Kettle Cooked Chicken Soup

chicken soup is one a healthy Trader Joe's products to add to your cart.

One of the most popular healthy Trader Joe's products, this soup is all the rage these days as a serving will really fill you up with a whopping 16g of protein. Plus, it's pretty delicious.

Spicy Mexican-Style Riced Cauliflower

This little packet really packs a flavor punch and is a great addition to taco night. It has around 200 calories in the whole bag, which makes it an easy add-on to your weekly menu plan.

Harvest Grains Blend

This hearty and healthy blend packs lots of protein and fiber. It's made up of orzo, garbanzo beans, red quinoa, and couscous that can easily be paired with meat to make a full meal.

Frozen Brown Rice & Rice Medley

Brown rice far surpasses its white rice cousin when it comes to nutritional value, but it takes forever to cook. This box of three frozen brown rice packets makes eating healthy a cinch––microwave for three minutes and enjoy perfectly cooked rice (and no rice cooker cleanup!). Try the Rice Medley when you want a little more texture.

Organic & Sprouted TriColor Quinoa

Quinoa is referred to as a superfood and is higher in fiber than most other grains. It also has tons of protein, is low on the glycemic index, and is gluten-free.

Colorful Carrot Coins

We love these as a potato alternative to that pork roast you plan to serve for dinner. Pop them in the air fryer to get the perfect blend of soft inside and crunchy outside.

Steamed Lentils

Trader Joe's

Lentils are high in fiber and therefore lower your cholesterol and chances of heart disease. Toss into a soup and enjoy increased energy, stabilized blood sugar, and a healthy gut.

What hope is there for a healthy self-image when the body-shaming is coming from inside the house?

If you’re a fan of the Bravo Real Housewives franchise and you’ve ever struggled with your body image, you may have experienced how triggering the shows can be. When the women aren’t flaunting their million-dollar homes and stacked closets—they’re obsessing about their looks. From med-spa visits to deep tans that aren’t found in nature to obsessive body talk, this series is a recipe for disaster for anyone struggling to accept their beautiful selves just the way they are.

This week, Milania Giudice, 17-year-old daughter of Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice, appeared on her mom’s podcast and talked about losing 40 pounds between middle school and high school. She referenced middle school as her “weird era” and compared her physique to “a pumpkin.”

“Do you remember me in middle school?” she asked her mom.

“She was, what would you say? A little bit thicker,” Teresa responded.

“And then one day it hit me, I was like, ‘That’s it,'” Milania said. “I literally felt like suffocating with my own body. I was like, ‘No, no, no, I can’t do this anymore.’ So one day I told my mom to get me a nutritionist and she did, and I ate three meals a day, and they were literally the healthiest meals… I ate it and I woke up before school and I worked out 30 minutes. I woke up like at 5, waiting for school because my school starts early. So I woke up before school. I worked out and then after school, I would work out again. And in two months, I lost 50 pounds.”

That’s a very large amount of weight. In two months. At the age between middle school and high school—so roughly, age 12? 13? Around the same time that weight gain is normal and expected, “as the body stores fat to prepare for the rapid growth and changes associated with puberty,” notes bestcare.org.

At this point in the podcast, Milania remembers her “heaviest” weight before middle school. “My heaviest was 150, and when I was done, I was like 110… I was so skinny after that, I was literally sick I was so skinny, because I worked out. But I felt good. But then I gained it back and now I look like… I don’t know.” At that point, the co-host asks, “So you actually felt something, though? You were like, ‘Yuck… was it like, because you saw yourself on the show?” Reminder: this is an adult woman talking to a 17-year-old child.

Milania replies, “Oh, no. My mom would be like—she’d never say anything to me—she’d be like, ‘Are you gonna have another ice cream?’ and I’d be like, ‘I don’t care if I’m fat. Listen, it’s my life. If I want to have ice cream, I’m going to have another ice cream. When I want to lose weight, I’m going to lose weight. And she knew it. And one day it just clicked. And I did it.”

Passive-aggressive remarks about a child’s ice cream intake do the talking for you—you don’t have to specifically say “don’t eat that” for your message to be heard.  And yet here Teresa adds, “They have to want to do it themselves. You can’t force them. I didn’t want her to have a complex or anything. And I thought she looked adorable. She was just a little thicker.”

“My sisters would always throw jabs at me,” Milania explains. “But it was fine.” She went on to add, speaking about what she perceived as her heavier body, “When I was in elementary school, it was cute, but when I got to middle school, it was… not right.”

This conversation, consisting of two adults talking to a child about her weight, is not funny. It’s not light. It’s not cute. It’s not podcast entertainment. “Weight teasing predicts weight gain, binge-eating, and extreme weight control measures,” per data from a 2016 study about eating disorders in adolescents. And “the best-known environmental contributor to the development of eating disorders is the sociocultural idealization of thinness,” research has found.

Which brings us back to the Housewives universe. This isn’t the first time conversations about weight surrounding children have been front-and-center in the series. Yolanda Hadid exhibited infamously problematic behavior toward her daughters, Bella and Gigi, as she repeatedly pressured them to diet to be prepared for their inevitable supermodel futures. “You can have one night of being bad, right,” Yolanda said in one clip from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, where she was chiding Gigi for wanting one bite of cake at her birthday party. “Then you gotta get back on your diet, though. Because, you know, in Paris and Milan, they like the girls just a tad on the skinny side.”

It’s all so unacceptable. It’s well-documented that mothers who make frequent comments about weight are “more likely to have daughters who use extreme weight control behaviors.” I struggled with a three-decade-long eating disorder that started when I was 12. Twelve. In Milania Giudice’s case, any doctor would be alarmed by a two-month, 50-pound weight loss, but the two adult women she’s chatting with, one her own mother, are taking it with a grain of salt.

Body-image issues and eating disorders are dangerous. They are predictors of additional mental health struggles like anxiety and depression. And while I don’t in any way think that Teresa Giudice has sent any of these messages intentionally, impact is always greater than intent.

And when the impact is the risk of sending our kids into decades-long struggles with body image, it’s something we really need to think about more.

Tinybeans mom, Anne Hatfield, and her family are here to share why they trust this item on the grocery list. Nutritionists and Betty Draper approve of it, too. Over to you, Anne.

As a mom of two kids under five, I’m always on the search for the best healthy-yet-not-boring snacks to feature in our family fridge. This new smooth cottage cheese blended with real fruit by Kemps® is the first product we’ve tested as a family. Read on to find out why cottage cheese is making a comeback and fueling our family’s full days of play.

Family Tested, “Full Day of Play” Approved: Kemps’ Smooth Cottage Cheese

At the end of the school year, our children grow tired of their lunch box staples. With the change in season and routine from school to camp, there’s an expectation that the fridge will see a refresh, too. Think: goodbye apples, hello watermelon. But this summer, we’re happy to also say “cheerio” to yogurt, and “good day” to Kemp’s new smooth cottage cheese that features real blended fruit, probiotics and no high fructose corn syrup.

I was both a bit dubious and very excited when I heard about Kemp’s new smooth cottage cheese that was being positioned as an alternative to yogurt for kids. The first thing that came to my mind was “An alternative to yogurt, yet still a dairy product? What’s the point?”.

The excitement then came from remembering as a child how much I enjoyed cottage cheese with fresh berries—but only in small doses, as the texture gave me pause (sorry curd lovers, but I’m a smooth versus chunky kind of gal, except when it comes to peanut butter).

Also, does anyone else hear cottage cheese and immediately think about Betty Draper? In Mad Men, Betty’s last meal pre-labor was toast, cottage cheese and pineapple, and cottage cheese is now forever cemented in my mind as a sensible meal choice.

So, our family welcomed the opportunity to test this new product. And we’re happy to report Kemp’s Smooth Cottage Cheese blended with real fruit gives all of the taste and none of the pause from our 2.5-year-old son, Ernie, and 4.5-year-old daughter, Milly.

Kemp’s smooth cottage cheese comes in a four-pack with three flavors to choose from, each featuring a different co-brand of our kids’ most well-loved characters: Transformers Mixed Berry, PJ Masks Strawberry and Peppa Pig Strawberry Banana.

Ernie enjoyed the Transformers Mixed Berry so much that it caused my husband, Jonny, to open the fridge and pull out the Peppa Pig Strawberry Banana to share with Milly. My husband is a Brit and while he was happy to have other UK representation in the house with Peppa Pig in the fridge, he too questioned the product.

Jonny and Milly testing out the Peppa Pig Strawberry Banana.

Then, my curiosity was officially piqued, and I went from food tester to investigative journalist.

Why Cottage Cheese is the Nutritious Choice for Summer

The reason cottage cheese is well-loved by nutritionists is that it’s filled with protein—and lots of it—which helps you stay fuller longer (that’s at least what we learned in this video from Doctor Eric Berg).

In the summer, my kids transition from the classroom to full days of play at the lake and happily getting lost in the woods. But, as all adventure-loving moms know, there’s nothing worse than being halfway through a hike when one of the kids complains they’re hungry…even though they ate just before you left the house 30 minutes ago.

So, it got me thinking that Kemp’s may have created a clever new mom hack. A smooth cottage cheese that keeps our kids happy (cheers, PJ Masks), and fuller longer? And still is chock full of probiotics a.k.a. the good bacteria that supports our digestion and immune systems? Game on. Maybe there’s a way to get through our hikes with less complaints and more smiles after all!

Also, if anyone else’s husband or friends question why cottage cheese is a good alternative to yogurt this summer, here’s a quick hit of history for you to share with your mom pals.

During World War I, there was a national food shortage and the Federal Drug Administration called in cottage cheese to save the day. According to the Food Historian, “Cottage cheese was touted as a meat substitute to kill two birds with one stone—it ate up some of the dairy surplus while also allowing people to eat less meat.” Cottage Cheese then proceeded to take off as a health food in the 1950s as people realized the benefits of staying fuller longer with this protein-packed alternative to meat.

“Eat More Cottage Cheese” poster by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, c. 1918. Hoover Institute Library and Archives.

So, there you have it. Cottage cheese is trusted in wartime, by Betty and nutritionists, and now by my kids, too. We’re happy to report that Kemp’s Smooth Cottage Cheese has earned its place in our family’s fridge this summer.

Watch out, kids. Your dad may be stealing your snacks this summer.

I was 35 years old when my mother finally said the healing words I’d waited to hear since I was a little girl: “I know the way I hated my body hurt you.”

She was right, of course. When she talked about her distaste for her thick thighs, I immediately looked at my own chubby legs with a frown. I might not have known that my round face was considered less than ideal if I hadn’t heard my mom bemoan her own double chin. Maybe the stretch marks that crept across my breasts when they first began to develop wouldn’t have caused me so much shame if my mom wasn’t so utterly disgusted by the ones that showed up on her burgeoning belly when my brother was growing inside.

My mother loves me desperately. She always has. She didn’t realize her chubby daughter was listening to every harsh, body-negative word she spoke about herself and absorbing that insecurity as part of her own identity.

My mom’s feelings about her body stemmed from a long, complicated series of events that began for her when she was just a child. She is truly a world-class beauty, but she has never been allowed to enjoy that because her naturally curvy body wasn’t in style when she was coming of age. Her quest for the thinness that always eluded her was about trying to alleviate her own pain. She never meant to transfer that suffering to me.

But she did. For many years, my life in a plus-size body was fraught with misery and self-loathing. I wanted to be someone else.

But I’m lucky because the internet has been “a thing” for my generation for most of our lives. I first gained access to body positivity as a concept and a movement online. It felt like home to me. In my late twenties and early thirties, I voraciously ingested content that helped me see myself in a way that mainstream diet culture never allowed.

By the time my mom and I had that beautiful talk about her role in my complicated relationship with my size, I was already living mostly happily in my plus-size body. I’d long abandoned the idea that I had to be thin to be worthy, beautiful, successful, respected, or acknowledged in the spaces where I chose to exist.

And then I found out that I was going to have a daughter.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CbH5AJyuO1w/

If anything could give me the resolve that I needed to stay intentional about keeping peace with my plus-size body and finding a way to exist happily in it, it was my Amelia.

I used my mom’s deep love for me and her expressed regret about her body negativity as a springboard to making better choices for my own child.

It is my deepest hope that my daughter will grow up in a home where she doesn’t feel the weight of body shame or comparison. However, hope isn’t enough to make that happen. It’s my job to ensure that it’s so. And that is exactly what I try my best to do.

When we talk about bodies, we always talk about them like they’re good. We read books with characters in diverse bodies. We affirm fat bodies. Very thin bodies. Athletic bodies. Trans bodies. Bodies with limb differences. Bodies that use assistive devices. Tattooed bodies. Hairy bodies. Every shade of body. If a person has a body, I tell my daughter that it’s a good body.

We don’t talk about grown-up diets or exercise for the purpose of weight loss in front of my girl. We discuss how food helps our bodies grow and work, and how important it is to eat lots of different foods so we can get everything we need. We run and play and take long walks in the zoo, laugh and dance at ballet class, and snuggle in the chair at night and talk about how much fun it is to use our bodies and discover all the things they can do.

After a lifetime of avoiding mirrors that show anything below my shoulders, I bought a full-length mirror for my bedroom. Every day, we get dressed and then walk to the mirror and say positive things like, “We look beautiful! Our hair is in matching buns!”

But the single most important thing I do for my daughter to help her grow up at peace with her body is to speak and think positively about my own. I have lived experience that tells me that my mom’s attitude toward her body was highly effective in shaping my self-image. I have to hope and pray and believe that my positive attitude will help my daughter see everything beautiful that she is and can be.

McGrady is already mom to son Hudson

Hunter McGrady is going to be a mom for the second time. The Sports Illustrated swimsuit model shared the most adorable pregnancy announcement on Instagram, sharing the good news on Instagram with her fans.

The model, who is married to Brian Keys, showed a video of her finding out she was pregnant with a home test.  Next to the video, McGrady wrote, “Well, i guess it’s time to share the news! Hudson is going to be a big brother!” She also said she and Keys “couldn’t be more excited to enter this new season of life in growing our family.”

McGrady graced the cover of Health’s January/February 2022 issue and talked about being a plus-size model. “I actually really love being called plus-size—I’m not ashamed of it.” I am pro-woman—if you want to be called plus-size, great! For me, now, I’m like, “Hell yeah, I’m a plus-size model.”

She also spoke about the ups and downs of being in the spotlight before and after pregnancy. “Maybe it’s because of the way society treats pregnant women. All of a sudden, people say you’re glowing and fabulous,” McGrady said. “And then postpartum happens, and everyone asks when you’re going to lose weight — there’s that whole bounce-back culture.”

The mom-of-one also talked about her response this time around. “I’m feeling all the emotions from excitement to nervous to giddy!” she said, adding that this pregnancy “has been wildly different than my pregnancy with Hudson.”

McGrady has been open about adjusting to life with kids. In an Instagram post last October, she talked about how she and her husband were transitioning to life as parents while still taking time to focus on one another. “Some days I miss the us that was able to just up and go to dinner spontaneously at 7pm, or could drive somewhere with no destination just to see where we end up,” she said. “We’re allowed to simultaneously mourn the past and be so wildly grateful for the present and the future without feeling guilty. I’m learning how to be a mama and still date my husband.”

Lucky for her fans, she’s planning on sharing more of this pregnancy. “Can’t wait to share this journey again with you guys over the next few months,” she wrote. “You all were so gracious and supportive during the last time.”

Hill won’t be promoting his new documentary to protect his mental health

Jonah Hill has been open in the past about battling anxiety, and is advocating for his mental health by deciding not to publicly promote his new documentary, Stutz.

“I have come to the understanding that I have spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks, which are exacerbated by media appearances and public-facing events,” the The Wolf of Wall Street actor wrote in open letter to Deadline. “With this letter and with Stutz, I’m hoping to make it more normal for people to talk and act on this stuff. So they can take steps towards feeling better and so that the people in their lives might understand their issues more clearly.”

Hill, who rose to fame with films like Superbad, 21 Jump StreetMoneyball, Knocked Up, and Don’t Look Up, said he was “grateful” for the chance to share the film with others who also struggle with their mental health, but that he will not publicly promote it—or any other upcoming projects, while recognizing he was one of the “privileged few who can afford to take time off.”

He also wrote that he felt this was a big step in self-protection for him, writing: “Through this journey of self-discovery within the film, I have come to the understanding that I have spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks, which are exacerbated by media appearances and public facing events.” Being able to put yourself first and have the self-awareness to know what’s right for you should be applauded.

In October 2021, Hill, pleaded with fans to stop commenting on his body. “Good or bad I want to politely let you know it’s not helpful and doesn’t feel good,” he wrote onInstagram (which he has since deleted), adding that he knew people “mean[t] well” with their compliments of weight loss.

While Hill admitted letters like this usually make him “cringe,” he felt it was important to honor his feelings and state publicly why he won’t be promoting this important documentary. “I hope the work will speak for itself,” he ended his letter, “and I’m grateful to my collaborators, my business partners and to all reading this for your understanding and support.”
