So if you’re getting back into the swing of at-home fitness or looking to mix things up from your standard routine, check out these 8 quick workouts that are even faster than an episode of Bluey.

7 Minutes to Strong Abs & Core Workout

What it is: This is a no-breaks basic mat workout that requires very little equipment. Opt for a 2- to 10-pound dumbbell or simply use your body weight as mom and fitness pro Larissa “Larie” Midkiff leads you through seated moves like modified crunches, bicycles, torso twists, and leg extensions.
Why you’ll love it: Larie is super upbeat and highly motivating, provides modifications to challenge yourself even more, and offers tips for avoiding any back pain. You may not break a sweat during this 7-minute routine but you will feel the burn. And with the entire set being seated you might even be able to do this one with your little ones running around you.

Quick and Sweaty HIIT Cardio 7-Minute Workout

What it is: Fitness expert Courtney Prather runs through a fast-paced, high-intensity interval training workout. This routine covers everything from abs and arms to butt and legs. Moves include burpees, crab kicks, curtsy lunges, plank walk-outs and plank jacks, v-sit crunches, and speed skaters. You’ll do 12 moves, each for 30 seconds, with 10 seconds of rest in between.
Why you’ll love it: This routine will help you activate your core and focus on your form to get the most out of your time. Courtney works to intense music with an enviably chic gym in the background and provides modifications for each move to accommodate all skill levels (no equipment required!). Here’s a chance to push yourself to your max and go all out because this workout is short, will help you break a sweat, and provides a much-needed energy boost.

7 Minute Workout | Full Body HIIT

What it is: Fitness trainer and mom of three Sarah Mailloux  (@coach_fitmomma) oozes energy as she cycles through push-ups, ab crunches, squats and wall sits, jumping jacks, planks, and more with 10-second breaks. She focuses on the moves while Tabata Songs takes over providing prompts to start and finish each exercise. You’ll need a table, chair, or high block for step-ups and dips.
Why you’ll love it: You can do this workout almost anywhere, be it at your house, office, or while traveling and staying in a hotel. Enjoy the natural landscape vistas and let Sarah and her DJ be your cheerleaders.

7-Minute Full Body Toning Workout

What it is: Meredith Shirk of Svelte Training leads you through a warm-up, workout, and flow down for a complete, full-body burn. Prepare for lots of squat punches, Superman swimmers, sit-holds, hand circles, and more, along with active recovery moves like boxer bounces.
Why you’ll love it: Meredith’s beautiful backyard oasis will leave you feeling transported. We love how she gives helpful reminders to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth, plus modifications if you want to ease into the routine.

The 7-Minute Workout 2.0

What it is: Inger Houghton, who gained a lot of social media attention while exercising during pregnancy, guides you through the well-known scientifically based sequence of movements known as “The 7-Minute Workout.” This includes jumping jacks, jumping squats, mountain climber push-ups, wall sits with alternating leg kicks, triceps dips on a chair, planks with alternating leg lifts, lunges, crunches, and more.
Why you’ll love it: If you’re a fan of the autopilot nature of Tabata Songs then you’ll dig the prompts letting you know when exercises stop and start, and what’s coming up next. The format makes the workout practically fly by so you can get on with your busy life.

7 Min Full Body HIIT Workout

What it is: Mom of two and digital creator Patricia Kraft offers a beautifully produced 7-minute workout “for new moms and busy people.” It’s full of moves like reverse lunges, squats, side kicks, shoulder presses, Supermans, lateral crunches, hip thrusts, and more, with a completion meter for each move and an upcoming move preview. She includes a gentle suggestion to repeat the video at the very end if you want to up your workout with a second round.
Why you’ll love it: There’s something really nice and almost soothing about the presentation Kraft has created. There’s absolutely no talking, just music with a great beat to keep you cycling through the moves.

The Scientific 7-Minute Workout Video

What it is: Here’s another relatively analog presentation of a simple but effective 7-minute workout. Kelli Segars of Fitness Blender moves against an all-white background without music or any bells and whistles. You’ll complete 12 exercises (including jumping jacks, wall sits, push-ups, crunches, squats, planks, high knees, and more) for 30 seconds each with 10-second active breaks in between.
Why you’ll love it: Kelli will inspire you to push yourself through every move to really make the time count—and all you need is a chair.

Lazy Girl Full Body Workout – 7 min.

What it is: Vicky Justiz is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer who runs through a series of planks, leg lifts, leg raises, Supermans, fire hydrants, arm circles, calf raises, bouncing lunges, squats, and more.
Why you’ll love it: Vicky offers a no-frills exercise routine that’s apartment-friendly and free of jumping or anything that makes too much noise—perfect if you’ve got a sleeping baby. This full-body workout will wake you up without getting super sweaty.

Giving birth is a workout in itself—it’s one of the most intense physical challenges a person will ever experience, which deserves more than a little rest and relaxation. There’s something here for everybody, and every body, from gentle beginner workouts to challenging calorie burns!

20 Minute Postnatal Legs & Core by FIT by Larie

What it is: No equipment needed for this 20-minute workout in which you use your body weight to your advantage. Larie leads you through various sets of lunges and pulses that keep your core firm and will make you feel the burn.

Why you’ll love it: This is a great option for that very first post-birth foray into exercise because it’s quick and you can modify every move by going deeper or staying higher. Squeeze this into your day during naptime, even micro-naps! And Larie is chatty, which keeps you focused yet also somehow distracted from all that thigh-shaking.

12 Minute Post Natal Core Workout by BodyFit by Amy

What it is: Full of movements that focus on the midsection, this short video shows postnatal mamas how to start getting their abs back in shape by targeting the deep abdominal muscles. These aren’t your traditional ab exercises, but instead a slow reintroduction to the core muscle connections.

Why you’ll love it: The exercises are broken up by lots of restorative stretching, and if you feel like you want to challenge yourself more, do the video again.

I was lucky to be pregnant alongside one of my best friends. She was two weeks ahead of me and we shared a philosophy: we talk about everything. On any given day, the ping-pong match that became our text thread looked a little something like this:

Her: Where did you buy your compression socks? Your OB suggested them for flights, right?

Me: Do you think it’s bad I woke up on my back?

Her: New adds for our research list: delaying the first bath, and cord blood banking. Have you looked into either?

Me: How did you know it was baby hiccups when you felt them?

You better believe I hung on every word of her OB-GYN appointment recaps too, as I waited for my own. I wanted to know how did it go, what did you learn, and most importantly… what happens next?

(Photo: Me and my pregnancy partner-in-questioning)

As her 40-week mark moved closer and closer, I couldn’t shake the visual that she and I were standing at the top of a giant slide. Her, ready to push off and shout to me what the ride was like, as she soared towards the bottom.

I found having her as a guide for what was ahead to be calming, and made me feel like I was in “control” (cue the laughter, I know). I’m all about sharing what worked for me in the hopes it helps someone else, so here we go!

You may already be experiencing this, but the reality is, that as your pregnancy progresses, your OB-GYN appointments begin to feel more like drive-thrus than sit-downs. And that’s exactly around the time you’ll hear phrases like posterior placenta, newborn stem cell preservation, mucus plug, and foley bulb induction.

While these are new terms for the majority of us (and they sound intimidating), they’re not to be feared or rushed through. Your appointments are your appointments after all. So, from one new mom to the next, take your time. Command the room. If you need it, bring your partner, family member or friend as reinforcement. Most of all, ask every question.

To get you started, here’s a glimpse into the notes section of my phone organized by trimester. You’ll find topics to anticipate and questions to consider before your next OB-GYN appointment, no matter where you are in your pregnancy journey. Of course, pick and choose what feels appropriate for your situation.

We’re all on this ride together, friends—and I’ll be here waiting for you at the bottom of the slide.

First Trimester (0-13 Weeks)

The newness and fragility is palpable. This is a great time to gather questions as you wait for your first appointment and ultrasound.

  • When should my partner and I get tested for our blood types?
  • Are my prenatal vitamins giving me enough of what I need?
  • Can I keep up my exercise routine throughout pregnancy?
  • Are there foods I should avoid while pregnant?
  • How do I choose pregnancy safe skincare?
  • What should I be feeling during my first trimester?
  • When do you recommend I tell my boss I’m pregnant?

Second Trimester (14-27 Weeks)

As you work through all the necessary blood work and testing, tackle some of the bigger questions around your delivery, and explore your preferences. This is a nice time for a babymoon too!

  • What pregnancy classes should I take, and when should I take them?
  • Is cramping a normal feeling while pregnant?
  • Do I really have to sleep on my left side? Is it bad to sleep on your back while pregnant?
  • Start thinking about birth intentions (I avoided the word “plan”, adds too much stress!) :
  • Can you still fly in your second trimester?
  • What can I eat before the glucose test?

Third Trimester (28-40 Weeks)

Gearing up for the homestretch! Expect more frequent doctor appointments as the weeks progress. This is your time to decide on your birth “intentions” and postpartum care.

  • How long past my due date can I go before induction? Can you ask to be induced?
  • Cervical exams during pregnancy—pros/cons? Are they elective?
  • Reminder to decide on cord blood banking! When is our deadline, and what is the cord blood storage cost?
  • What is delayed cord clamping? And why would you do it?
  • What are signs your water broke? How long after do you wait at home if it does?
  • What does a mucus plug look like?
  • Do you have pediatrician recs? When do we make our first appointment?
  • Start to freeze food! Any recommendations for the best postpartum meals?
  • What is the transition phase of labor?
  • What breast pump does my insurance cover? Should I get fitted for a breast pump now?

While there is a lot to consider (clearly!), I hope having this little list in your back pocket lets you feel prepared for your next OB-GYN appointment.

Dad isn’t expecting these…

Why is it that dads always seem to have everything they could ever want? Maybe they genuinely don’t want anything that they don’t already own. Or it could be just that he never really mentions wanting something specific. We think there’s a good chance he’s dropped a hint or two, but we’re pretty sure those hints are along the lines of something practical. And listen, we love our dads and our partners, but we just don’t think socks or a cordless drill backup battery really show what they mean to us. We also don’t want to know that much about drill backup batteries. That means every year, Father’s Day gift shopping can be a serious guessing game.

You’ve probably already done the tie thing. The tools thing. The iTunes gift card thing. Those are all fine, but we think we’ve come up with a few ideas you might not have thought of yet and that dad isn’t expecting. Whether he’s a sports guy, a foodie, or a fashion-forward father, we’ve done our research (just like dad taught us). There are some really cool gifts out there—or rather, right here—that are sure to excite him. So start visualizing your dad, stepdad, husband, partner, and any other dad on your list and check out these Father’s Day gifts.

The first three months after your baby arrives can feel a little jarring as you adjust to life with your new addition. Newborns can be pretty demanding little creatures at times, and it’s normal to feel like all you do is feed your baby, change them, and put them to sleep. But even in the haze of sleep deprivation and the physical discomfort of healing after childbirth, this precious time, known as the fourth trimester, is also an opportunity to nurture yourself and bond with your little one.

1. Binge-watch your favorite television shows

Whether you plan to breastfeed or bottle feed, you’ll be spending a lot of time on the couch with your newborn, making the fourth trimester the perfect time to get to all those shows you haven’t had time to watch yet. It won’t be long before that little bundle of joy is demanding endless episodes of Paw Patrol and you’ll turn it on, even though you really want to watch the next episode of White Lotus.

2. Go out to dinner

Newborns sleep a lot—about 14 to 16 hours a day. Of course, it doesn’t feel like that when they wake you up every two to three hours at night to eat. But in those first few weeks, it’s normal for your baby to stay awake just long enough to fill their belly before falling back asleep. Your baby’s need for cuddles and plenty of shut-eye actually makes them a pretty great dinner date. You can hold them close in a corner booth and let someone else cook for you.

3. Meander through your favorite museum

No doubt about it, caring for a newborn is hard work but there are also a lot of pros to your baby being small, sleepy, and contained in a carrier or stroller. Load baby up and walk around your favorite art gallery or history museum before they’re off and running trying to touch everything. Not only is this a great way to stay connected to your hobbies and interests, but museums are also usually quiet so your baby can snooze while you walk around.

4. Travel

This may sound daunting but hear us out—traveling with a sleepy newborn can actually be a lot easier than traveling with a wiggly baby or busy toddler. If you’re considering a road trip, chances are your little one will snooze through much of it. And if you’re thinking about flying somewhere, your newborn is likely to be pretty content snuggled close to you in a carrier. Plus traveling with a young infant means you won’t have to worry about packing tons of snacks or finding ways to entertain a toddler during a long flight. So book that trip you’ve been eyeing, already.

Whether it’s mommy and me yoga or a Fit4Mom class, getting in a workout is possible (and easier than it will ever be) during the fourth trimester. Baby is along for the ride while you get your sweat on. Plus, these classes give you an opportunity to connect with other parents, find community, and swap stories about eating, sleeping, and pooping, because parenthood.

Note: Remember to check with your health care provider before engaging in an exercise routine after giving birth.

6. Meet a friend for a drink or a meal

What once was easy isn’t so after you become a parent. That casual after-work meet up with a friend for cocktails (or mocktails) and a bite take more than a little planning when you factor in nap schedules, feeding schedules, and time for everyone to rest. But there’s still that sweet spot with your newborn when heading out to a local coffee shop or cafe to connect with friends is undeniably possible. Baby sleeps, you get caught up, and all is right with the world.

7. Read a book

Seems simple, doesn’t it? Just sitting down to read a book. But there will come a time where sitting still, even for five minutes, is a thing of the past. You’ll need to change a diaper, grab a sippy cup, rush out the door to an appointment the minute you have a break. So break out that book and get reading…even if you do fall asleep after five pages.

8. Take a chance on a babysitter

We know. We know. Handing your new baby off to some stranger just doesn’t feel right. Even if you’ve interviewed them and checked references, this is still a tough one. (Leaving baby with a family member counts.) But the during the fourth trimester, babies don’t really care who’s holding them or rocking them or singing to them, just as long as it’s someone. So get out while you still can. Enjoy time with your parenting partner away from the house. And whatever you do, talk about something other than the baby—at least for 10 minutes.

9. Go on leisurely walks

The operative word here is “leisurely.” The fourth trimester is all about slowing down, giving your body time to heal, and getting to know your newborn. If you felt like you were always on the go before, let this be a time to take it slow and (quite literally) smell the flowers.

Newborns love to be close to you; wearing your little one in a carrier during a short walk around the block is usually very soothing for them. This is also a great way to encourage some skin-to-skin contact and take advantage of your baby’s littleness before you’re pushing them in a stroller or chasing them down the sidewalk (it happens sooner than you think).

Depending on the time of year your baby is born, a walk outside may not always be possible, but getting some fresh air and sunshine when you can is a great way to clear your mind and give your body some endorphins. Just be sure to check with your health care provider before engaging in exercise after giving birth.

10. Soak up the snuggles

It might not feel like it when you’re covered in spit-up and changing endless diapers, but this time really does fly by. Soon your baby will start making eye contact, smiling, and babbling away and your cuddle sessions will slowly get shorter and shorter. Soak it all up as much as you can. Take in their little features. It won’t be like this for long.

Here’s your reminder that you’re just as important as anyone else on your Mother’s Day list. Consider these gifts for yourself our present to you!

We absolutely adore Mother’s Day, and we know it’s also possible that it’s not your favorite. Either way, this is the time to really lean into that buzzy “self-care” thing and treat yourself! We know, we know. It feels counterintuitive to shop for gifts for yourself, especially during a time when we’re so focused on the other amazing moms in our lives. But being focused on others is exactly why we want to make sure you’re taking good care of yourself, too. Because as great as Mother’s Day is, sometimes it includes its fair share of stress.

These are some of our favorite Mother’s Day gifts for yourself: goodies that help you live better, have more fun, feel better, and more. There’s something for every mom, so we’re pretty sure you’ll find something that you’ll love. Maybe two somethings. We absolutely won’t judge. You totally deserve to feel as good as you make your loved ones feel. Check out our list of our faves and find yourself a little treat!

Brush Park Gymnasium
Feeling there was a lack of workout facilities that effectively catered to families wanting to maintain a regular fitness routine, mom of two Adrienne Farrel created a space where every family member can have access to high-quality health and wellness. And, she did it beautifully. The stunning facility has all the equipment needed for an effective adult workout, a kid's playspace with a climbing wall, hanging pod chairs, and a magnetic wall and outdoor space for parents to sit, chat and enjoy coffee while the kids play.

When I was about 45, I decided to quit drinking alcohol. It wasn’t because I had a huge epiphany, made a New Year’s resolution, or felt that alcohol was getting in the way of my daily life. It was a lot simpler than that: I didn’t like the way it made me feel.

After one drink, I was exhausted, then had trouble staying asleep. I’d wake up cranky the next day with a horrible hangover, my skin dull and gray. One morning, I realized I didn’t like booze enough to sacrifice precious sleep and look like I’d aged five years in one night.

Before that, I’d been somewhat of a drinker. But even at the ripe age of 21, my hangovers were killers, and it’d take me a few days to recover. After having kids, I’d have an occasional glass of wine with my husband or when I went out with friends, but that’s about it (mostly because I’m such a lightweight and enjoy the taste of Diet Coke more). But when I found myself in group settings, that one-drink max always managed to rub some people the wrong way.

Without hesitation, they would ask me why. I’d be honest and say it was because I had to drive and wasn’t a huge drinker. But certain family and friends had a tough time leaving it at that. Sarcastic comments would follow: “Oh, you must think we are all a bunch of alcoholics!” or “I bet you have some rum hidden in that Coke and don’t want anyone to know.” They just couldn’t resist.

These days, most people in my life know and are supportive of my decision to avoid alcohol. It’s not something I stand on my soapbox about, either. In fact, I hardly mention it because when I do, people have a lot of questions, and I don’t really feel like responding. Somewhere along the way, “I don’t really like the way it makes me feel” stopped being a good enough answer.

Related: The Unapologetic Truth About Sober Parenting—from a Sober Mom

It’s always annoying. But let me tell you, it doesn’t compare to being a mother who doesn’t drink over the holidays. When December rolls around, some assume I am going to make an exception. I hear “it’s the holidays—loosen up!” or “treat yourself! It’s Christmas!” and “don’t you need some stress relief from all this holiday craziness?”

But the truth is, alcohol doesn’t relieve my stress, it doesn’t feel like a treat, and it doesn’t help me loosen up (even though it very much does those things for others). It actually makes my anxiety worse because it affects my sleep, it gets in the way of my exercise routine, and it makes me feel like crap.

But when you say that to someone with a drink in their hand, they often feel like you are pointing a finger at them and their choices. Or they laugh and pretty much say they don’t believe you. There’s really no way to win.

Whereas I can’t imagine saying to anyone, “Wow, you’re having another—you’re really treating yourself tonight!” my decision invites criticism and snide remarks.

What people seem to forget, especially around this time of year, is that what we eat or drink is a personal decision. And just like it’s not okay to comment on someone’s body, it’s not okay to comment on what they put into their body—or don’t. It can be a huge trigger for a lot of people, and we all know how triggers can be amplified over the holidays.

As someone who knows how judgmental things can get, my best advice is this: At the next get-together, don’t say anything at all about what anyone is drinking—unless you’re asking them if they’d like a refill.
