Flying with a newborn can be challenging, to say the least. For one mom flying on Philippines Airline, she was mid-flight when she realized she was out of formula—uh oh. So what’s a desperate mom to do? This mom let a stranger breastfeed her baby! Desperate times call for desperate measures.
When Patrisha Organo boarded her first flight as Cabin Crew Evaluator, she had a sense that something was special. Even though the Philippines Airline crew member thought that the special something was her new job, she was about to find out that it had more to do with her role as a mother than as an airline employee.
Organo wrote on her Facebook page, “Everything went smoothly until after take off, I heard an infant’s cry, a cry that will make you want to do anything to help. I approached the mother and asked if everything’s okay.”
The baby’s mother told Organo that she had run out of formula. So what did Organo do? According to her FB post, “I felt a pinch in my heart. There’s no formula milk onboard. I thought to myself, there’s only one thing I could offer and that’s my own milk. And so I offered.”
As it turns out, Organo was also a newish mommy, as the mother of a one-year-old herself. She had the ability to breastfeed, so that’s exactly what she did. Organo and another crew member helped the mother to the galley where she nursed the baby. “I saw the relief on her mother’s eyes. I continued to feed the baby until she fell asleep. I escorted her back to her seat and just before I left, the mother sincerely thanked me.”
Organo’s selfless act of kindness is a beautiful example of moms helping out other moms—and gives a totally new meaning to flying the friendly skies!
