It’s not your imagination: The circus — all kinds — is everywhere lately. Has witnessing all that flipping, flying, juggling and tumbling inspired the kids to give circus arts a whirl? New York City is full of professionals ready to help your little daredevil, clown or acrobat learn the skills of the big top (often, in incredible, cavernous spaces). From school break and summer camps to ongoing classes and events — some of which are even free — there’s a circus class out there for your kid. Click through to find where to soar with the greatest of ease!
For Classes for the Whole Family: The Muse
No matter how you want your circus arts, The Muse has got you covered. For children ages 3 to 13, they offer Kids Cirque, an intro to ground acrobatics as well as beginning aerial skills that's customized to different age groups. Want to get in on the action? Try Mommy & Me Cirque. For a family bonding experience that encourages flexibility and strength while promoting problem-solving and team work, you want Family Acro, for families with kids ages 5 to 9. Finally, the space's Family Room program is an open play with a circus twist, that's just as much about meeting other families and creative and physical exploration for kids 6 and under and their caregivers. (Suggested donation for Family Room is $10.)
