Now that we’re in the middle of summer, the oppressive heat is a daily norm. Luckily for those families itching for a family-friendly place to cool off that doesn’t require blasting your own a/c, two (that’s right, two) new swimming pools are now open for the sizzling summer months. While you may have heard about the opening of McCarren Pool on the Williamsburg-Greenpoint border, you might have missed the announcement of Brooklyn’s newest swim spot in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The “pop-up” pool is a welcomed new addition to the park, especially for residents of Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo. Though smaller in size than McCarren, the pool at Brooklyn Bridge Park can comfortably support 60 swimmers, and with a deep end of only 3.5 feet, it’s ideal for little ones who want to splash around. Swimming sessions are limited to 75 minutes before the next group jumps in.

There is also a beach area located next to the pool where sand toys and lounging parents on beach chairs are aplenty. The beach area also features a concession stand called the Beach Shack which offers your traditional beach food fare.

This year, the pool will be open daily from 10:00am – 6:00pm through Labor Day. The beach area and concession stand will be open daily until 11:00pm.

As if the location wasn’t choice enough, Brooklyn Bridge Park and the surrounding Brooklyn Heights are teeming with activities for kids. No doubt they’ll want to burn off some energy at Pierrepont and Harry Chapin Park before getting wet in the Water Lab–complete with sprinklers, water shooters, and fountains. For a more scenic view, the Brooklyn Heights promenade is close by, offering stunning views of lower Manhattan and Lady Liberty.
