When we were young, grabbing a donut usually meant a trip to the nearest Krispy Kreme at a local strip mall. Fortunately for our kids, today’s donut runs hold a lot more appeal: artisanal bakeries in NYC have taken fried dough to a whole new level. Some focus on candy-covered and brunch-food inspired varieties. others insist on using entirely local ingredients. Prepare to drool as you click through our favorite NYC fry factories.

Dough Loco

This isn’t your run of the mill donut joint. Started as a Kickstarter campaign, Dough Loco has grown into one of the most popular shops in town. The biggest complaint among regulars is that the goods always sell out. Their large, fluffy donuts are the perfect size to split with the kids. The miso maple, raspberry sriracha and blood orange poppy are some of the favorites here, but really anything on the menu will turn you into a fan.
