This is a literary town, and not just for adults. NYC is home to not only many amazing children’s book authors and illustrators, but also spirited independent bookstores that sell — and support — their work. The impending autumn has us in a bookish mood, so we checked in with some of the city’s major indie booksellers to find out what works from local scribes and scribblers they’re most excited to see and read. Intrigued? Many authors will be dropping in to read works in person at these stores, and the Brooklyn Book Festival is touching down on September 19 and 20 in downtown BKLYN. Click through to see their picks — and don’t forget: Reading is fundamental!
From Word Bookstores: Little Elliot, Big Family
Children's Specialist Lydia Hutcheons at WORD Bookstore of both Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and Jersey City, is eagerly anticipating the sophomore release from Brooklyn's Mike Curato, Little Elliot, Big Family. (Curato's first book Little Elliot, Big City, followed the title character, a polka-dotted elephant, as he explored a very 1940s-era looking New York City.) The new book, written for readers ages 4 to 8, finds him out for a walk again — on streets that will look very familiar to Brownstone Brooklyn kids — when his pal Mouse heads out of town to a family reunion. An initially lonely Elliot finds his own kind of family before his journey ends.
Release date: October 6
