The work of owner Jane Van Cleef, the business sells adorable, huggable fleece dolls inspired by the mystery and magic of the woods. There’s a bustling workshop and store in Brooklyn — click through to see inside!
The Magical Menagerie
There are currently 25 characters "living" in Hazel Village, all of them personally designed and named by Van Cleef herself. While she admits to feeling the heat when percolating a new plush citizens ( as with babies on the way, people get very curious about the name of the latest creation), ultimately, the names come, she says, "from my heart." Some of her first dolls — Gracie the cat, and Lucy the owl — were named for her sisters, and Nicholas the bear gets his name from her husband.
