There are many reasons we don’t take our kids to dance performances: expensive tickets, tantrum potential, and post-bedtime start times. So yes, your tiny dancer has been leaping, twirling, and tip-toeing at classes all around town, but seeing an actual dance performance is still on the to-do list. Time to check one off! These dance companies welcome kids in the (matinee) audience, offer affordable tickets and sometimes even offer a chance to dance with the professionals.

See Teens Impress On Stage

Inspire your young dancer with a date to see performances by pre-professional teenagers. The Taylor School Teen Ensemble, an audition-only group of dancers studying the Paul Taylor style of movement, performs regularly around New York City. In a special performance on February 14, they'll join Martha Graham dancers at the Joyce. Then, witness the Paul Taylor Dance Company premiere of Sea Lark at Lincoln Center March 11-29. Here again, tickets start at $10 with matinees every weekend.
