New York City has produced top film directors like Martin Scorsese and Spike Lee, so why shouldn’t your kid be next? With toddlers already filming with your cell phone, it’s never too early to learn the nuts and bolts of real filmmaking. From animation classes to documentary film courses, here are seven film classes that may pave the way to that day when your kid utters the words, “I’d like to thank the Academy.”

Let’s Go, Lego

RoboFun. RoboFun’s main focus is creating and designing robotics, but it also offers cool stop-motion animation after-school classes. Kids write scripts, draw storyboards, and design characters and sets, using clay, paper and Lego minifigures. With the guidance of a film professional, the children shoot and edit their masterpiece, which is then uploaded to Vimeo. RoboFun also offers weekend immersion classes or if your kids can’t get enough, enroll them in the Summer Camp, which includes building robotics as well as filming them.
