New York City has produced top film directors like Martin Scorsese and Spike Lee, so why shouldn’t your kid be next? With toddlers already filming with your cell phone, it’s never too early to learn the nuts and bolts of real filmmaking. From animation classes to documentary film courses, here are seven film classes that may pave the way to that day when your kid utters the words, “I’d like to thank the Academy.”

Kid Make Movies. Not only does Kids Make Movies have after-school classes and party packages, but instructors can also come to your home to teach a class. Kids will learn all parts of movie production or they can focus on just one aspect, such as acting, editing or scriptwriting. They can choose among classes on stop-motion animation, documentary and music videos. At the end of each project, students get a DVD and an internet-ready clip.
