From fire(fighters) to water, there is plenty to celebrate this weekend. Kick it off with a picnic and a backdrop of Brazilian percussion music in McGolrick Park Friday night. Then, honor New York’s bravest at The Intrepid, celebrate City of Water Day on Governors Island, take your creative kid to a photo workshop and party with a day of outdoor activities and performances put on by The New Museum. Also, don’t miss a just-for-toddler dance show at The Irish Arts Center happening all weekend long.

Wobble – A Show for Toddlers
The Irish Arts Center is putting on a very special show suited for toddlers. Starring two boys that wobble, jump, slide, bounce, wriggle and oops, fall down, this dance theater show promises to wow the youngest theater goer with its “fantastical and energetic physicality.” Fri., Sat. & Sun., 11:00 am & 1:00 pm. Firefighter Appreciation Weekend on The Intrepid
Honor New York’s bravest with a weekend of FDNY demos, competitions, performances and interactive activities including the 5th annual Battle of the Boroughs cook-off and the 3rd annual Battle of the Bands. See a bucket ladder rescue, go on a fire safety house tour, take a CPR class and more. Firefighters, paramedics, EMTs and Personnel get free admission and family members get half off. Children’s Instant Photography Workshop
The Impossible Project is hosting a hands-on photography class for kids that will teach the basics of shooting with Impossible film on a 600 Polaroid camera, along with some other creativity boosting techniques. Kids will photograph objects that are special to them, as well as to each other. Everyone will leave with unique art and a portrait of themselves. Sat., 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Soho. $30. City of Water Day on Governors Island
