School is out until the New Year, so we know you need some extra activities to fill those days. Ice Carving Competition at the Bronx Zoo
Amazing ice sculptors will be carving up a storm at the Bronx Zoo in a competition to sculpt an interpretation of wildlife. You can then vote for your favorite sculpture and help choose the winner. While there, kids can also sit on a giant Bowhead whale ice sculpture, explore an igloo and go down a 25-foot long polar bear ice slide. Drop Off Holiday Playdate
Need a little Me Time after all of the holiday hustle and bustle? Drop your kiddo off at the Museum of Motherhood for their Holiday Playdate. Kids will play games, make crafts, hear a story and have a snack, all while you shop, sleep or spa to your heart’s content. Teddy Bear Tea
Have your child pick out a special teddy or doll and bring it to the Mount Vernon Hotel & Museum Garden. New Year’s Disco Ball Cookies Cooking Class
If your kids didn’t overdo it on sweets during the holidays, then keep ‘em busy with a kids cooking class at Freshmade NYC. Hosted by Chloe Doughy, this class teaches toddlers how to make “perfectly” round New Year’s Disco Ball Cookies. They’ll even get to decorate them with sparkling sprinkles. The Holiday Circus is back, and we’re not talking about your family’s celebration of the holiday. See performers from spectacular circuses like the Big Apple Circus and Cirque Du Soleil. Kwanzaa Family Celebration at Cumbe Dance Center
Iris Wilson, dancer extraordinaire, will be leading a celebration at Cumbe Dance Center on the fourth day of Kwanzaa for an interactive party. Participants will learn the history and seven principles of Kwanzaa through song, dance and a candle lighting ceremony. Wilson performed as one of the Queens in the original Broadway cast of FELA! She has also recorded, “Made In Africa” with Stephen Marley, is a co-founder of “It’s Dance” school and is the author of the children’s book, ”Boys Dance Too.” Sun., 11:30 a.m. – 1p.m. Fort Greene. $10/family of 5.
