Want to get your family in the winter and holiday spirit? Then you’re in luck with a bunch of festive events happening this weekend from a just-for-kids reindeer and jingle bell run to a Winter Solstice celebration at the Queens Botanical Garden.



Laurie Berkner Holiday Concert
Listening, and singing along, to festive tunes will surely get your family ready for the holidays, right? Kid favorite, Laurie Berkner is putting on a show to help you do just that at The Concert Hall. Sat., 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Upper West Side. $45, children under age 1 free. All ages. Event details.


Watch the FDNY Annual Santa Rescue
Have your kids ever wondered if Santa gets stuck going down a chimney? Well, today, Santa needs to be rescued from the New York City Fire Museum’s roof and your kids can watch FDNY firefighters get the job done. Once he is brought to safety, Santa will pose for photos (bring your camera!) and the John Clacher Band will be on hand to perform carols. There will even be snacks and hot cocoa. Sun., 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. West Village. Free to view, $10 for adults and $2 for kids to visit Santa. All ages. Event details.


St. Nicholas Day at Wycoff Farmhouse Museum
Celebrate the Dutch tradition of Sinterklass with traditional music, treats, stories and crafts at New York City’s oldest house. The day’s activities include a colonial balladeer, St. Nicholas arriving on horseback at 2 p.m., cider, storytime, photos, games, crafts and more. Sat., 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.. Reindeer Run Festive Kids’ Half Mile Race
Prospect Park has been hosting a festive sounding jingle bell run, where all the runners wear bells, for years. This year, kids can also run in a special half-mile Reindeer Run where they’ll get antlers and jingle bells to gallop, err, run in. Sat., 8:30 a.m. Park Slope. Ages 7-12Event details.

Holiday Party + Photos with Santa
Join Habana Outpost and My Brooklyn Baby for the 3rd annual Santa’s Village! Get your photo taken with Santa, meet Mrs. Claus, get crafty at the family art table and leave with a gift bag and 4 – 4″x6″ prints to take home. Sat. & Sun., 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Fort Greene. $25/family. Winter Solstice Celebration at QBG
Celebrate the Winter Solstice at the Queens Botanical Garden. Go on a winter Garden tour, make botanical crafts (additional fee), see live musical performances, and shop at the Holiday Marketplace. You can also get your photo with Santa and see the 4:30 p.m. tree lighting. Sun., 12:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.. Flushing. Free with garden admission. All agesEvent details.
