Free Arts NYC Kidsfest
Kidsfest is a one-of-a-kind family event where you and your children can experience up to a dozen hands-on arts activities, all designed to promote creativity while having fun! While this event isn’t free, ticket sales help raise funds to support Free Arts NYC arts-based mentoring programs. Sat., 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Feet Don’t Fail Me Now! Show
Minneapolis hoofers are headed to the New Victory stage with tap shoes, costumes and a big brass band. This energetic, joyous and funky hour of hard-hitting percussive dance to a live band is anything but boring. Kids will jump out of their seat to dance along! Mexican American Festival at CMA
The Children’s Museum of the Arts’ final day of the Mexican American Festival is jam-packed with fun from a Villalobos Brothers concert, mask-making workshop, Day of the Dad After exhibition, a face painting workshop and more. Sun., 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. West Village. Free with Museum admission. All ages. Event details.
Baby Loves Disco PJ Party
Boogie down with bum shufflin’ cuties, diaper-wearing tots, dance-crazy pre-schoolers and other parents at a nightclub turned child-proof disco. The afternoon dance party features a real DJ mixing real disco beats from the 70s and 80s. You’ll also find musical instruments, a dance contest, crafts, face painting, juice boxes for the kids and drinks for the parents. You’ll have fun socializing outside the usual playground scene and your kids will go home exhausted – guaranteed. Today’s party is a PJ party! Sun., 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Greenwich Village. $20-$60. Grand Central Fantasy Sketches
Check out the Transit Museum’s artworks in the Grand Central Sketchbook exhibit, then play an art-making game to help create a fantastical version of the Terminal using stickers, markers, pencils and crayons. Sat. & Sun., 1:30 pm. Downtown Brooklyn. Free with Museum admission. Ages 5+. Event details.
Gingerbread Lane Opens at NYSCI
The New York Hall of Science’s homemade gingerbread house exhibit opens today. Check out the 1.5 ton, 300-square-foot village made entirely of edible gingerbread. You’ll be amazed by the five 2-foot high nutcrackers and 152 gingerbread houses, but you may leave craving holiday sweets! Sun. through Jan. 12, 2014. Museum admission of $11/adults, $8 children 2-17, under 2 free. All ages. Event details.
