School may be back in session, but there’s still lots of fun indoor and outdoor events happening this weekend. See a visually awesome water-themed puppet show in Central Park, catch a parade of clowns (and a pie fight!) or go to Governors Island for a fun BBQ and scavenger hunt. A Clearing in the Forest: Puppets
Arm-of-the-Sea Theater will perform City that Drinks the Mountain Sky, a show with poetry, puppetry and evocative music that tells the tale of NYC’s drinking water supply. The large-scale production combines visual storytelling using puppets and masks with live music in a magical showcase that fuses the arts, natural sciences, current events and history. Program will not occur in inclement weather, rain date is scheduled for September 16, 2012. Sun., 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. Hammer & Claws Blue Crab Feast
Did you know NYC has an all-you-can-eat crab feast? The annual event happens the weekend after Labor Day to keep that summer feeling going a little longer. Roughly 40,000 Maryland blue crabs will be steamed and enjoyed by about 4,000 visitors. Adults also can enjoy all-you-can-drink wine and beer and classic sides like coleslaw, potatoes and corn on the cob will not be forgotten. NY Clown Theatre Festival Parade
If your kids fall in the love ’em, not hate ’em category for clowns, take them to see the New York Clown Theatre Festival’s opening day parade which goes from Union Square through the L line subway to Williamsburg.
