Don’t let the chill in the air keep you and your little ones inside this weekend! Take a trip to the Lower East Side to celebrate and learn about healthy habits by dancing, playing games, and cooking and sampling healthy food at Fun and Fit in the City. Madison Square Park will put on the annual Fall Fest where the kiddos can make arts and crafts, watch theater and dance ‘til they drop. Battery Park is also hosting an annual celebration, Harmony on the Hudson, where you can marvel at oversized puppets and double dutch extravaganzas. Enjoy some music this weekend with a performance of Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players, or head to the New York Aquarium for African Penguin Awareness Weekend.

Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players
There are kid’s bands, and there are great kid’s bands, and then there’s Justin Roberts. No one writes nuanced songs capturing the essence of the childhood experience like this Chicago popster, having expertly tackled universal elementary school themes of bursting out onto the parking lot during a fire drill, rationalizing the stomach butterflies on the first day of school, and anxiously awaiting your PS number on the snow day closing list. See him live this weekend and get ready to laugh and sing along. Sunday. 2:00 pm. Upper East Side. Jewish Museum Family Members: $17 Adults / $13 Children General Public: $20 Adults / $15 Children. Ages 2 to 7. Event details.
African Penguin Awareness Weekend
Celebrate the New York Aquarium’s newest waddler, Anna, and her colony of black-footed penguins during a weekend devoted to the aquatic birds. African penguins are an endangered species and their populations need our help to recover. Engage with these tuxedoed birds through hands-on exploration at a biofact station, make penguin-themed crafts and play penguin-themed games. Saturday and Sunday. 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Coney Island. Free with aquarium admission. All ages. Event details.
Little Makers: Paper Making
In this fun and artistic celebration of fall, collect and bring your own brightly colored leaves to create handmade paper with fall foliage! Sometimes creativity can get messy, so dress your little maker (and yourself) in old clothing that can be splattered with things like paint, ink and oobleck. Preregistration is recommended. Sunday. 10:30 am – 12:30 pm. Corona, Queens. $8 per family, plus NYSCI admission ($5 per family for members). All ages. Event details.
