Your kiddos might be back in school, but summer isn’t over yet, so we’ve got a full weekend of events to make sure you enjoy these last fleeting days. Take a swing at the Mets Jam Music Festival, whip up some magical potions in a garden, make a kite and watch it soar, or snack on cannolis at a parade. Whether you choose to play, fly or eat, your weekend is sure to be a hit.

Uptown

Roll into the Riverside Park Skate Jam
Bring your board, full gear (helmet, elbow, knee and wrist guards) is required, or just come on foot to check out the moves of local boarders. Enjoy a full day of skating competitions, open skate, a raffle and loads of food vendors. If your little ones don’t have a skateboard yet, they’re sure to be asking for one by the days end. Sun. Noon to 5 p.m. Riverside Park. Free. All ages. Event details

Midtown

Create Magical Potions in the Garden
Bring your imaginations because Gallow Green is no ordinary garden and this will be no ordinary experience. Be prepared for an enchanting day of planting and potion making at this rooftop garden. Your little ones can bring along their favorite doll or teddy bear to assist them, as well as their own recyclable bottle to create a magical potion to bring home. All potion masters, as well as their assistants (who will have their own miniature seats), will enjoy tea, lemonade and snacks. Sat. 1 p.m. Chelsea. $25/person. Ages 6-11. Event details

Downtown

89th Annual Feast of San Gennaro
Whether you’re italian or not, the 10 day San Gennaro Festival, which includes a cannoli eating contest, is worth a visit. Enjoy walking through the streets of Little Italy, filled with games, rides and authentic Italian cusine. Be sure to swing by on Saturday the 12th for a parade filled with floats, marching bands and musical entertainers. Thurs. 9/10- Sun. 9/20. Little Italy. Free. All ages. Event details.

Washington Square Folk Festival
Put on your dancing shoes and head to the park for an afternoon of live music and dancing. Introduce your little musicians to jazz, blues, old time string bands, and more, all while enjoying a day in the park. Make a whole day of it and pack a picnic and hit the playground. Sun. 1-4 p.m. Greenwhich Village. Free. All ages. Event details

Brooklyn

Take a Swing at the Mets Jam Music Festival
Show your support for the Mets and take your little slugger out for a day of music and baseball on the river. Listen to live music, meet Mets legends, take a swing in the batting cages, and enter a raffle to win tickets to a Mets game. Sat. Noon-4 p.m. Brooklyn Heights. Free. All ages. Event details.

Queens

Cheer at the Circus in the Park
Your little ones will cheer and laugh with delight as performers walk the tight rope, juggle, clown around and use puppets to entertain. The best part is that not only is this circus free, but its also outdoors so your tiny spectator doesn’t need to sit still for the whole show. Sat. 1-4 p.m. Astoria. Free. All ages. Event details.

Cruise Over to the Bike Parade
Be a part of the parde and walk, dance or bike your way along the Rockaway Boardwalk. Dress as your “favorite Rockaway site, or theme” and you could win a “Best of Rockaway” prize. Children under 14 must have a parent or guardian present with them on the parade and sign their waiver on the day of the event. Sat. 11 a.m. Rockaway. Governor’s Island

Bring Your Appetites to the Vendy Awards
Bring your little foodies to sample the best food trucks in the city all in one place. And while your little ones are determining which truck has the best ice cream concoction, you can snack on some more adult fare and wash it down with an adult beverage or two.  It’s a bonus that this funfilled day includes a boat ride over to Governor’s Island. Sat. 12:30-5 p.m. Governor’s Island. $100/adult; $60/child age 8 to 12; free for children under 8. Fly a Kite to the Highest Height
Hop on a ferry and head to Governor’s Island for the Kite Festival. Watch giant kites soar, let your little ones create their very own kite at the crafts station and then join in the flying fun, all while jamming to live music by Dad Beats and the stilt-walking brass band, Shinbone Alley Stilt Band. Sun. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Governor’s Island.
