This weekend may be starting with Friday the 13th, but we think you’ll have a fantastically fun few days anyway. 92Y Annual Street Festival
This festival is not to be missed! Two stages will feature live music and performances, some just for kids. You’ll also find kid-friendly activities and offerings in a special 92Y KidCentral Avenue (look for Red Tricycle!). Plus, there will be films, fitness, sports, games, arts and crafts, community health services, raffles for 92Y classes and an International Way cultural tour of more than a dozen countries. Sun., 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Moon Cake Cooking Workshop
Celebrate the Moon Cake Festival with a cooking class at Planet Han. Kids will learn to make Crystal Moon Cakes from an instructor speaking mostly Mandarin and a recipe will be provided so you can make them at home too. Feast of San Gennaro Parade
Little Italy is alive with the Feast of San Gennaro Festival (Sept. 12 – Sept. 22) and today the parade of floats, music, entertainers and marching bands will go from the Baxter Street entrance of the church on Mulberry Street to Houston, south on Motto to Grand and then back to Baxter. Check it out and then enjoy some Italian eats! Sat., 2:00 pm. Baby Loves Disco Back to School Party
Boogie down with your kiddo and other parents at a nightclub turned child-proof disco. The afternoon dance party features a real DJ mixing disco beats from the 70s and 80s. Today’s party is a back to school theme, but so much more fun that lessons and homework! You’ll also find musical instruments, a dance contest, crafts, face painting, juice boxes for the kids and drinks for the parents. School may be back in session, but you can still reminisce about the best parts of summer. In this workshop, kids will use non-traditional materials to create memory boxes that recreate and commemorate the best moments of the summer.
