South Street Seaport invites you to the Children’s Day festival, or take your little ones to revel in renaissance wonders at the Medieval festival where they can even be can knighted! Learn and explore at the World Maker Faire (it is sure to keep your attention as much as your kids’ with the life-size mouse traps and Coke and Mentos show). Journey to Coney Island and the New York Aquarium to brush up on your marine mammal knowledge and celebrate Sea Otter Awareness Week. Or, unleash your creative powers at the Sculpture Court at the Whitney Museum and study up on astrology with Dora the Explorer at the Sony Wonder Technology Lab.

Sculpture Court at Whitney Museum
Well known for her use of dense patterns of polka dots and nets, as well as her intense, large-scale environments, Yayoi Kusama has found herself at the epicenter of the New York avant-garde. Bring your future Picasso to explore Kusama‘s covered shirts, dresses, shoes and suitcases with materials like pasta and fake flowers. Then, drop by the Whitney Studio to create your own forward-looking fashions!!  Saturday. 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Upper East Side. Free with museum admission. Ages 4 and older. Event details.

Family Workshop: Sleeping Under the Stars
Watch the double feature of “Dora The Explorer: Dora’s Slumber Party” and then join us to explore the night sky! Learn the names of the stars and decorate a special star pillow with your own digital picture to take home. No reservation required and space is limited.  Saturday. 12:00 – 1:00 pm.  Upper East Side. $5 per participant.  Ages 4 and up.  Event details.

Medieval Festival
Transport your little knights-to-be into a medieval market town at Fort Tryon Park. Visitors are greeted by authentic medieval music, dance, magic, and minstrels, as well as jugglers and jesters. The afternoon is concluded with a thrilling joust between four knights on horseback. The kiddos will get to watch performances of Robin Hood, learn about life as a knight and even have the opportunity to become junior knights! Sea Otter Awareness Week
Come celebrate Sea Otter Awareness Week at the New York Aquarium and show your support to Jacob and Tazo, the resident sea otters! Learn about what makes these cuddly marine mammals unique with hands-on activities, play a round of Sea Otter Simon Says, and watch the keepers feed and train them. This event is free with aquarium admission and takes place from Sep 29-30, from 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Saturday & Sunday. 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. World Maker Faire
This weekend, all the coolest kiddos will be exploring technology, craft, science, fashion, art, food and more in the most hands-on and exciting ways at World Maker Faire. Quench the kids’ curiosity at the World Maker Faire where they can learn to solder, sew, screen print, watch the iconic cupcake cars or even experience a life-size mousetrap. Saturday and Sunday. 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.
