Arepa Factory: A taste of Venezuela in the East Village
This colorful café pays tribute to the arepa: griddle corn cakes that are a Venezuelan mainstay. Owner Monica Muzzo says kids go crazy for the Tequenos, white cheese (close in taste to ricotta) wrapped in pastry crust, or the just-sweet-enough Guava Tequenos, white cheese and guava jam wrapped in pastry crust. You can either park your stroller up front and sit for a bit and soak in the friendly ambience at this spot or, on a sunny day, take your tequeno or empanadas to-go for a quick snack while you walk through Tompkins Square Park, which is a stone's throw away.
