For most of us, learning to swim was a childhood rite of passage, one that we want for our own children, too. Even though we’re surrounded by water, no one’s dipping into the Hudson or East River (for good reason.) Fortunately, it’s easier than you may think to find the perfect swim lessons for your kids, no matter what their age or level. Here are seven of our favorites to get your family water — and warm weather — ready!

For a Preschool Slant to Lessons: Imagine Swim

Imagine Swimming features rolling admission: Simply go to the site, find a location near you, and get in touch to enroll in a class. Children are grouped according to age and comfort levels. Classes are small, with one teacher for every two students under three years of age years, and one teacher for every four students older than three. Lessons are interactive, with instructors using a Reggio Emilia-style teaching philosophy and asking questions to students get excited about swimming. Though Imagine Swimming's flagship location is in Tribeca, it offers more Brooklyn locations (four) than any other swim school.

Tip: Imagine Swimming features a “lock in place” enrollment system, meaning you are billed until you tell the staff—in writing, four weeks in advance—you want to stop. If you know you’ll only need swim lessons for a specific period, make sure to contact the school well ahead of your required end date.
