Let’s face it, transitioning back into a routine on Mondays after the laissez faire weekend can be hard for even the best of us. If you’re struggling with what to do with your baby, toddler or preschooler today, then check out this list of awesome drop in classes taking place every Monday in Queens.


1. Move to the Music with the Kids Sing-A-Long at Waltz Astoria

Waltz Astoria, a hip Astorian coffee shop and performance space hosts rowdy sing-a-longs for kids every Monday. The talented musicians who lead the sing-a-longs are great with kids and will get even the shiest child rocking and rolling. With admission price, kids can choose from a variety of snacks (think homemade chocolate milk and PB&J) at the coffee bar. Note: There is stroller parking, but it’s outside in the driveway, so plan accordingly for weather.

2. Mother Goose Mondays at the Forest Hills Library

This weekly gathering for babies ages 3 to 17 months features stories, songs, rhymes and movement games in a cozy environment. You can also refresh your book supply while you’re there. Who doesn’t love multitasking? Registration is not required.

3. Soak up some modern art at MoMA PS1

The exhibition space at MoMA PS1 offers a suggested donation admission on Mondays, which makes it a great place to stop in with your little one. It’s never too early to nurture a love of the arts!

Go: 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., 22-25 Jackson Ave. at the intersection of 46th Ave. Long Island City
Cost: $10/adults (suggested donation), free for kids under 16

4. Monday Morning Story Time at Barnes and Noble

A latte for mama and a fun story for the little one! Each Monday, Barnes and Noble offer a free story time. Bonus: Afterwards, your kiddo will love exploring the stage and browsing the books. Plus, there are plenty of great places to eat and get some shopping done within Bay Terrace Shopping Center.

5. Movement classes for kids of all ages at My Gym, Fresh Meadows

My Gym has classes featuring music, dance, relays, games, special rides, gymnastics, sports and more. Sign up for a free trial the next time you’re having a serious case of the Mondays. You just may find a regular Monday to-do.

Go: Various times throughout the day on Mondays, 176-60 Union Turnpike, Fresh Meadows.
Cost: You can sample one class for free.


6. Music/Gym Class and Open Play at LIC Kids

LIC Kids offers two Monday gatherings. First, Music/Gym class is a hybrid program that incorporates nursery rhymes, songs, dancing, stretches and exercise. Second, Open Play gives little ones a chance to take part in supervised, unstructured play in a fully equipped gym.

Go: Music/Gym, Mondays at 10:15 a.m. for 18-36 months, 11:15 a.m. for 9-18 months and 12:15 p.m. for 2.5-3.5 year olds. Open Play daily from 1:00 p.m.-1:45 p.m. at 5-02 50th Ave., Hunters Point, Long Island City.
Cost: $12.50 got open play hours. Drop-in fee is $30 per class.

7. Timeless Tales at the Central Library (Jamaica)

This weekly gathering is geared towards kids aged 3 to 5 and features librarian-led stories, songs, learning activities and more. The Central Library is a sprawling space with a Children’s Library Discovery Center. The Center houses hands-on interactive exhibits and learning labs making the trek to the library well worth it! Register in advance on the Queens Library web site

8. Winter Monday Toddler Yoga at the Giving Tree Yoga Studio

Get some exercise and have some fun with your toddler in this weekly series featuring more than just yoga. Little ones will love the games and music that go along with the kid-friendly poses that are all based on animals.

Go: Mondays from 9:00-10:00am, 2256 31st St., Astoria
Cost: $210 for 12-week series or $20 drop in rate ($10 for additional siblings).

9. Open Play at Kids Playhouse

If you’re looking for a place where your child can climb, slide, swing and run to their hearts content, then Kids Playhouse is the place. They sell a variety of snacks for kids and coffee for you, the Playhouse is a lifesaver on freezing cold and rainy days.

Cost: $7/child
