The dog days of summer are here. (Remember yearning for days like these during the polar vortex?) Now, it’s hot and sticky outside, and you and the kids need to beat the heat. Escape to one of the city’s amazing (air-conditioned) museums and galleries. Not only will you and the kids cool off, but, best of all, these exhibits – from Marvel superheroes to Play-doh sculptures to indoor waterfalls – will ignite your kids’ imaginations.

(Do) Go Chasing Waterfalls

The Art: This is why you raise your kids in New York City. Where else can you take your kids to see kid-friendly Pop Art and at the same time tour a five-storied townhouse that boasts having one of the world’s tallest indoor waterfalls (23 feet high, by the way) in a home? Within this jaw-dropping property (appropriately named “The Waterfall Mansion”), owner Kate Shin hosts Summer Art Festival featuring over 150 contemporary artworks spread throughout the elevator-equipped (very cool) mansion.

Fun for Kids: Most of the artwork falls within the Pop Art category like sculptures of a suspended Spiderwoman, porcelain doughnuts, and cascading M&Ms. But the kids - and you too - will be most wowed by the indoor waterfall.

Insider Tip: Gallery visits are by appointment only. Email to make a reservation.
