Can’t convince your kids that perusing art at the Met or the Whitney is a fun way to spend a summer day? How about gazing at larger-than-life sculptures outside on your way to one of their favorite shops or playgrounds or while exploring a new part of the city? Click through to see four amazing public art installations that kids and adults alike will enjoy.
A variety of innovative, unique and interactive sculptures are on Governors Island thanks to the FIGMENT Festival. Big plus for kids: this is art you can "play" with rather than look at. Highlights include Head in the Clouds, made from 53,000 recycled milk jugs and water bottles; Reverberate, an interactive soundscape playground (shown above); an amazing sustainably designed TreeHouse you are free to climb into; and Music Box, a giant music box that you can crank to hear music.
Now through September 23, 2013
