When it comes to shopping for kiddie wardrobes, most moms fall into one of two schools of thought. There are the pragmatists who are in constant search of bargain buys and hand-me-downs from friends and family, and those who take children’s fashion a bit more seriously. If you fall into the latter category, Tiny Brooklyn is for you. Small in size and big on style, the shop is right at home in the heart of Carroll Gardens, where tiny Brooklynites are here, there and everywhere.
What’s the deal with Tiny Brooklyn?
The friendly little Carroll Gardens boutique caters to fashionable mini New Yorkers who prefer under-the-radar brands and one-of-a-kind finds to logos and labels.
“My vision for the store is a place where kids (or their parents) can find unique, special pieces that show off their individual personality. Brooklyn is such a dynamic, eclectic place, and we want our store represent that,” said Rachel Blackburn, who opened the shop on August 23, 2013 with co-owner Isabel Stadnyk.
Go to see the store, stay for the clothes
The first thing you’ll notice upon arrival at 493 Court Street is Tiny Brooklyn’s playful (polka-dotted!) exterior. The eye candy continues inside, where chic yellow and gray Bodie and Fou wallpaper illustrates a bustling and busy New York City scene. Whitewashed floors and a crisp tin ceiling lend a fresh, open vibe to the store. Artfully displayed gifts and accessories (think plush pals, colorful acrylic bracelets, and old-fashioned wooden tops) flank well-edited racks of apparel from brands like Mini Rodini, Anthem On The Ants, Joah Love and NUNUNU for newborns through size six.
Why you should bring the whole family along
While Tiny Brooklyn takes its style seriously, there’s no denying that kids run the show here. Chalkboard paint coats the lower half of the store’s walls, and little shoppers are welcome to make their creative mark. An appealing selection of gift-worthy toys and trinkets at just a short arm’s reach make it almost impossible to walk out the door empty-handed, but we’re pretty sure you’ll be okay with that. Once your shopping bags are full of your favorite tiny finds, take a family stroll down charming Court Street.
