Even if you missed the Mermaid Parade (it was June 17, and a pretty soggy affair), there’s still plenty of reasons to head to seaside fun spot Coney Island. In addition to the Cyclone celebrating a landmark birthday (90!) with a free boffo block party, you’ll also find new rides, new eats, new art — and all the old sun and sand favorites, too. Click through to see what’s happening on, and along, the boardwalk!

To Take in a Show at a Fresh Venue

A new addition to the Coney scene last year, the Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk is already running full-tilt with a mix of concerts, family shows, comedy, and multicultural events.
(The big kid-friendly draw this season is Kidz Bop, which we noted in our roundup of this summer's best family music events.) The space-age-looking dome is set around the elaborately ornamental Childs Restaurant building, a New York City landmark, which, from the 1920s through 1950s was the place to see, be seen, and eat. The Amphitheater also has a rooftop bar, concert concessions, and Seaside Park, a lush outdoor greenspace that includes the Play Garden—a series of landscape rooms that provide challenging play opportunities for children of all ages..
