Do your kids have Olympic fever? Encourage your little athletes-in-training to get involved beyond spectating from the sofa. It may require some pre-planning or even a road trip, but we think that adding any one of these Winter Olympic-inspired adventures to your February agenda will make riding out the late Winter blues a whole lot more bearable. From Sochi to the tri-state area, here’s to discovering new cold weather athletic endeavors.

1. Figure Skating

Figure skating is always a fan favorite when the Winter Olympics roll around, and budding Kristi Yamaguchis (this year, be on the lookout for Gracie Gold and Polina Edmunds) can try their little legs on the ice without venturing too far from home. Check out Red Tricycle's favorite outdoor skating rinks right here in the big city.

When to try it: If you're feeling brave, take tots as young as 3 for a spin on the ice.

Where to go: In Manhattan, Central Park's Trump Rink (formerly known as Wollman Rink) and The Rink at Rockefeller Center offer views of iconic New York landmarks. Across the river in Brooklyn, check out the recently opened LeFrak Center at Lakeside to ice skate on two rinks for the price of one.
