How much do you think Mary Poppins got paid? An average salary for a personal assistant is less than $30,000 a year, while a nanny makes just over $27K. In New York City, the average salary is higher: $44,000 and $32,000. But one Manhattan couple is willing to pay a little bit more.
The couple seeking a “family personal assistant” is prepared to pay $90,000 or more, according to a recent job listing on ChronicleVitae, which reads: “Position with outstanding compensation available for academically accomplished, responsible, extraordinarily talented individual to serve as a household assistant to a highly engaged professional couple.”
Duties include tutoring their middle-school-aged child, as well as providing “administrative support (such as calendar management) for the family, research projects, some light cleaning and meal prep (the family has a housekeeper that handles the bulk of these responsibilities), and pet care for a hypoallergenic dog.”
Besides the salary, the gig comes with a rent-free, totally private apartment in a “luxury Manhattan high-rise,” a benefits package which includes health insurance and four weeks of paid vacation.
We don’t know if there’s a catch, but if you have childcare you like, better not show them the listing.
