Before Starbucks and iPad apps were a sign of city life, ole’ saloons and horse-drawn carriages were markers of a thriving town. Lucky for us, these historic hubs still exist and are now happening spots for lil’ cowboys and cowgirls. Looking to roll up their sleeves and pan for gold? Or watch an old fashioned shootout without the danger? Flip through our slideshow for the best Wild West Towns across the country.

Los Cerrillos, Nm

Rather than gold, settlers mined for the gorgeous turquoise stone until the 1900s in this town. After the population dwindled, Los Cerrillos became a tourist destination with scenic hikes, a petting zoo and a mining museum. Several buildings stand untouched from those days, like the local church where locals still attend mass, and there are still cardboard cutouts of movie characters who were filmed in this town.
