Portland’s crafty heart beats strong this time of year as the holidays get closer and the creative ideas start flowing. Take advantage of all that creativity floating around and craft some handmade gifts with your little ones. The following spots offer instruction and materials to make gifts like baby footprint-paintings and hand dyed silk scarves, as well as making the boxes for the gifts themselves. Click through our album to see our favorite six spots to DIY like a pro.

The Children's Healing Art Project (CHAP) works with young people in crisis, though intervention and art therapy. To support this mission, they're opening their doors every weekend until Christmas for open crafting and art sales as a Holiday Bazaar. Families can enjoy access to unlimited art supplies for just $5 a person, and stockings, candles, ornaments and picture frames can be purchased for decorating projects. Stop by the boutique for kid-made ornaments and wrapping paper. Visit the Bazaar Fri. & Sat. 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sun. 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
