Yellow Scope: Science Kits for Girls
This Portland-based company (bonus points for local business!) is owned by two scientists who happen to be mothers of young girls. Their goal was to inspire a love of science in girls without giving it the dreaded pink makeover and dumbing-down that girls' toys are often subjected to. The Foundation Chemistry Kit, Beakers & Bubbles ($44.99), has been a runaway hit since its preview last summer, while the Acids, Bases & pH Chemistry Kit ($24.99) is brand new.
