Adorable newborns aren’t the only reason to be oohing and aahing in Portland. For pregnant mamas massages are just as good of an excuse to indulge. Say goodbye to lower back pains, and hello to a well-deserved session of indulgent pampering with any of these prenatal massage spas and wellness centers.

Calming and soothing massages come in a historic house in the Alphabet District. Both masseuses provide prenatal and postpartum massage services. After the first trimester, they’ll use bolsters and pillows to support expectant mothers as they receive healing treatment. Make an appointment for postpartum recovery massage to help realign your hips (and your mind) after your doctor gives the okay. Co-founder Abby Buchanan was featured in a Portland Monthly “best of” natural practitioners list in 2014, so you know you’ll be in good hands. Massages range from $80-120.

Happy clients rave about the comfortable cozy rooms, friendly staff and magical hands at Mudra Massage. A pregnancy pillow allows expecting moms to (gasp!) lie face-down comfortably, after which you’ll be moved to your side with another body pillow to keep you comfortable. Everyone’s offered water, tea or chocolate as they wait for their service. You had us at chocolate. After your first trimester, ask your doctor about trying out the weightlessness of the flotation therapy tank. Floating and massage packages are available. Prenatal massages are $110-130.

At Zenana Spa, it’s not all about massage, but it is all about pregnant moms and the wellness of parenting families. You’ll find an array of services here, from massage to body treatments, nail care, facials, breastfeeding support, acupuncture and prenatal yoga. Point well-wishers to the packages (maybe a pedicure with that massage?) or book your own prenatal massage: an hour starts at $90. You can also take a class on baby massage so your forthcoming little bundle can be just as relaxed as you are.

A doula who also does massage? Sounds like a good idea to us! The LMTs at Earth Mama also help mothers through the birthing process, but you don’t have to sign on for doula services in order to benefit from their expertise in working with pregnant mothers. For your convenience, there are locations in Southeast Portland and Vancouver. Earth Mama also provides postpartum massage services ranging, from $70-100.

True North Massage
Sheila at True North Massage offers a unique service to those over 20 weeks into a pregnancy: Mayan Abdominal Massage. Usually, massage in pregnancy covers all those sore spots we get from carrying the extra weight and adjusting to how our bodies are changing. This abdominal massage supports “flow” of lymph, arteries, veins and energy. Postpartum massages are available as well, and three-month packages are a deal when you buy them together: $189, or $63 each.

Before you book: Talk to your doctor before you schedule any massage appointments during pregnancy, especially if you have any complications. Then you can really relax and enjoy your well-deserved massage to the fullest.
