Late summer is the perfect time to enjoy both sun and sand at the majestic Oregon coast. Part of the joy is the journey, not just the destination, so click through our album to find six quick stops along the way, from Portland to the coast. They’ll alleviate your kids’ backseat boredom, fend off rumbling tummies and cure them of the worst case of the wiggles.

Camp 18 Restaurant

At mile post 18 on Hwy. 26, is a massive log cabin restaurant and the perfect place to stop, grab a bite to eat and let the kids run around a bit before hitting the coastal towns - or for fueling up on the way back to Portland. In addition to all of the hand-carved wood and old logging equipment, there are adorable chainsaw-carved animals, antler chandeliers and two fireplaces to check out. Not only that, but the restaurant has plenty of yummy items, like dinner plate-sized homemade cinnamon rolls and bunkhouse omelettes for breakfast, or Lumberjack Burgers piled high with bacon, BBQ sauce and onion rings for lunch. There's also a gift shop for picking up a little souvenir.
