The Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival
One of the biggest Independence Day events in Portland proper, it features dozens of local and national live bands, delicious food and a fireworks show on the 4th. (Fireworks begin at 10:05 p.m. on July 4th, but you’ll want to show up early to stake out a good spot on the grass.) Fri. Sat. & Sun. (and Mon.). Times vary. Portland Craft Beer Festival Family Day
Yes, the Portland Craft Beer Festival is for those of legal drinking age but on Sunday they host a family-friendly day so you can check out beers from almost every brewery in Portland and bring the kiddos along for hula hooping, yoga, games, a Children’s Market and more. Sun., noon-7 p.m. Northwest. $25/10 beer tasting and mug. All ages. Event details.

Chamber Music NW: The Power of Strings
A grand display of stringed instruments, audiences will be wowed by Andrew Norman’s Gran Turismo for eight violins and Gordon Jacob’s Suite for Eight Violas. Presented by Chamber Music Northwest (CMNW) Summer Festival. An epic way to introduce your budding musicians to the power of the stringed instrument. Sun., 4 p.m. SW. $30. All ages. Event details.


Eric Herman & The Thunder Puppies
Spend your Saturday afternoon at a family rock ‘n’ roll concert with the legendary Eric Herman. Enjoy music, comical antics, singing, dancing and rocking out. Sat., 2-3:30 p.m. SE/Clinton District. $8/advance; $10/door. All ages. Event details.

Portland Pickles Home Game #13
It’s a home game for Portland’s collegiate wood bat baseball team, the Portland Pickles. Grand Slam 4th of July fireworks spectacular and Salute to First Responders Night all for a low, low price. Sun., 7:05 p.m. SE. $6-$12. All ages. Event details.

Worth the Drive

July 3rd Celebration at The Oregon Garden
Celebrate Independence Day and the 15th anniversary of the opening of The Oregon Garden in all at once. Enjoy yoga, geocaching, a bouncy house, face painting, live music and—of course—fireworks (10 p.m.) Regular admission applies until 6 p.m.. Fireworks viewing is free! You can park onsite for $5 or take a free shuttle from Roth’s Fresh Market (starting at 6 p.m.).
