Play with a big bin of wriggly worms, drive a big yellow bulldozer, or cruise through miles of streets on your bicycle without a car in site. Those are just three options for Portland families this weekend. Portland packs tons of fun stuff for kids to do on the weekends. Dozer Days and Sunday Parkways are back. Learn to compost with worms or explore amphibians and snakes in the forest. And Astoria turns 200 years old. So wherever you and your kids end up this weekend, enjoy a very big slice of cake to celebrate!
Sunday Parkways: East (pictured)
Parkways East connects Lents, Bloomington, Ed Benedict and Gilbert Heights Parks with a 7-mile traffic-free route that includes a long section of the Springwater Trail. In addition to other new fitness and fun classes and games, some of the popular Sunday Parkways features will be back again, such as the kids’ bike fair, climbing wall, and kids’ circus–plus food and fun! Sun, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm, free, all. Event details.

NWCT: Snow White
When a young princess is threatened by a jealous queen, a dark magic is cast to reclaim the title “fairest of all.” But Snow White is one royal-in-training who won’t give up without a fight! Loyal friends join in a battle against an evil plot, potions, and a poison apple—but will they be in time? Fri-Sun, 7:00 pm and 2:00 pm, Northwest Children’s Theater, $22 adults/$18 youth, ages 6+. Out of Town
2011 Dozer Days
Dozer Day is like going to a fair, only the rides are really heavy construction equipment. Kids hop in the driver’s seat and actually drive big yellow dozers, dump trucks, and other heavy equipment with a professional operator at their side. It’s a dream come true for kids (and some adults), that also benefits local children’s charities. Sat and Sun, Cemex/Fisher Quarry, Vancouver, WA, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm, see listing for ticket information, all ages. Event details.
Celebrate Astoria’s 200th birthday with tall ships, adventure sails, heritage fair, dragon dancers, taiko drummers, birthday cake and fun! The celebration goes all weekend long, but Saturday has the most events. Thur – Sun, downtown Astoria, 10:00 am, free, all ages. Event details.
